The full format / flagship urban myth

Based on what I see in my community, the average ILC buyer is a soccer mom (occasionally dad, but less often) who has no clue about sensor size, or even how to use their camera. They bought a rebel because that is what a friend had or because the sales person at Bestbuy recommended it. They set the mode dial to "runner person" when shooting their kids sporting events, and that is about as deep as they get.

46 min Interview with Ricoh's Mr. Baus (in German) from Photokina 2018

I too like the APS-H idea. Before the the K-1 it seemed like a good idea as most if not all of the APS-C lenses would work on APS-H. Kunzite is probably right that sensor procurement would not be economically viable, but I like the idea. Enough extra real estate on the sensor, but no need for a new lens line.

How quickly we forget...

As discussed in another thread, even Canon and Nikon releases have slowed to a trickle.

From the Photo Plus interview:
Q: As a growing number of users are becoming vocal about not wanting to compromise with the KP, is the high-end APS-C (i.e. K-3 II) product line one which will be continued?
A: This is being worked on. If you like the K-1 and some of its features, look for an APS-C offering in the not too distant future.

Except that is not what he said. He said:
"lens development, very interesting and in 2 classes."

I am selectively quoting him to make his message fit what I think he was saying, but at least I am using a direct quote. You on the other hand are paraphrasing his words to make them say what you think they mean. Why do I bother??? (insert "bangs head against wall" emoji)

We have been speculating on this line for over a month now in various threads. I am with you. I suspect the two classes likely refers to lenses, as it comes immediately after lenses in the sentence. However, it is likely that Asahiman is not a native English speaker, so word order might not mean the same to him as it does to me. Ultimately all we can do is speculate until we get a new cryptic message. :D

I am still curious to see the post that Chris is talking about...:hmm:

I have read the posts in question, (thank you, Mistral) but Chris did not share what the post said, he shared what he speculates the post means. He might be right, but right or wrong, he is putting words into asahiman's mouth.

The K-30 was awful popular. Just random speculation here (just like your comment) but I bet there were as many K-30 sold as K-50. By the way, K-s1 does not fit in the series we are talking about here.

And if I remember right the problem was fixed. Have there been any reports of the problem in the K-70? Or the KS-2 for that matter? I am thinking it was late in K-50 production when it was fixed.

Ricoh bought Pentax for the Theta? That is interesting! Are we talking about the same Theta that was developed AFTER Ricoh bought Pentax?

Pixel shift uses the IBIS system to move the sensor between shots, so IBIS is required for pixel shift. Of course the quote OoKU responded to mentioned SRII and Pixel Shift II. The 2s could be a problem. We could speculate if it will have SR and PSII or SRII and PS.:D

I agree 100% with 33% of that statement.:D Q I suspect is dead. K-01 was never a series, and is not likely to "replaced" anytime soon. K3x is overdue!

Pentax said something similar about the 645z, only in stronger terms. But it is most definitely time for an update!

It turns out mirrorless cameras are competitors to DSLR's. If Sony, Fuji, and Olympus, were not making MILC's what would those buyers have purchased instead? Most likely a DSLR.

I remember when you first showed up here, posting some inside information that you were privy to. Some posters cut you up and shot you down... And then we quickly figured out you were THE best source of information PF has ever had! That is something we may never be able to replace. You will be missed!

I think we will be very lucky to get three of the items on that list. I will be happy with any two. I will be disappointed if only one of them happens... unless it is #5 or #7. Either of those will make my day!

I have switched over to day light balanced LED's in my house. At first it took some getting used to as the unnatural yellow of incandescent bulbs is so common we perceive it to be natural. I got used to the "day light balanced" bulbs real quick though and the light really does feel much more natural.

DA* 11-18mm f/2.8 is to have a defog option for astrophotography?

Check the first page of this thread as it is discussed there. It is just rumor at this point but would come in handy for astro photography. Speculation is that the extra switch could turn the heater on. It could just be a focus lock switch, but that seems unnecessary in an ultra wide angle lens.

Km/x/r were succeeded by the K-30/50/S2/70. Pentax has always had a camera in that slot. Ignore the naming convention that has changed and compare the specs. A true entry level DSLR is something hat Pentax has typically stayed away from. They did toy with entry level with the K-500 and KS-1. Maybe the K110D might fit there too, I don't remember for sure. It seems they like to keep older models on sale when they have been upgraded to fill the entry level spot. E.g. They will likely continue to sell the K-70 alongside the (future) K-80, but at a reduced price. (Assuming they go with 80 and do not change naming conventions again. Personally I would go with K-72.)

Now the black and silver are listed at the same price, though the 14-24 lens is not available on the silver model.
