I can only assume that shipment = unit sold? Because in supply chain a shipment may also mean:
- bulk shipment
- intercompany shipment
- consignment shipment
- return shipment
- repair shipment
- marketing shipment
- promotion shipment

don't forget they want to finalize the new 16-50/2.8 to go with the announcement, so this may hold them back a bit

Ricoh's financial results for FY2020 and Q1

2020Q1 YoY
-32.2%
-31.9% (excluding forex)

I'd like to believe that the camera segment does better but this would be in line with the rest of the brands

considering that the impact of leasing de-conosilidation makes up 4.2 of the 6.4 billion Yen slump somewhere in the remaining 2.2 billion is hidden the loss in camera sales

cleared from the de-consolidation impact, YoY is -22.11%

It wouldn't be re-using as such. K10D doesn't equal K-10

I think simplicity always wins... to me it would be:
K-1 + Mk number is top tier FF
K-10 + Mk number could be lower tier FF
K-2 + Mk number could be top tier ASP-C
K-20 + Mk number could be lower tier ASP-C

I know K10D and K20D have already been here, but the distance on the market is sufficient to not confuse

Introducing any more letters and characters would only confuse outside users who already have weak understanding if any of the Pentax product structure

One thing I am worried about on this war of DSLR and MILC is that review sites may end up only comparing MILC against MILC and DSLR against DSLR. Whilst it sounds like an advantage for Pentax once other brands escape that space, it really isn't, because reviews and comparisons of DSLRs will not happen anymore. And if the only reviews and comparisons on the web are then limited to MILC than Pentax will be unfairly excluded from peoples attention. I have learned through the years that quality of your product doesn't mean a thing if your customers have no visibility of it.

Not sure why you are reacting like this, I just said that if they wanted to reach more people with their brand message they should have organized the promo for the announcement better. Anyway, 8 minutes to go, so get your popcorn and coke and get comfy... )

I get the thing about publishing on time, that is perfectly normal. But the incoherent (or in most part non-existent) campaign to draw attention to this is just a bit disappointing

Their facebook event (the only one I found) hosted by Pentax Australia has 48 going 111 interested people... that is pretty dismal for a global marketing feat

don't want to be too skeptical but if this was meant to bring big and positive news I'd imagine the link to be established long time ago, static, and with a proper Ricoh Imaging campaign... unless it is in the hands of the same team that created K-01 :D (NOTE: I know there are people who love it and I respect them!)

---------- Post added 07-16-2020 at 02:30 AM ----------

Just realized that the Facebook Event they created says:
Join us on Thursday at 8pm AEST for an announcement. We will update this event with a link at the specified time.
which means that we get the link now but not necessarily that the announcement will be now :D

They created a Facebook event called "What Pentax Values Most in Future Cameras"
What Pentax Values Most in Future Cameras
What confuses me is that this seems to be completely driven by Pentax Australia and, unless I missed it, I haven't seen a global campaign for the announcement

I second that. This should be about understanding the root cause and also the impact. And there are two sides to both: objective and subjective. Both can be discussed in good spirit and culture

I am afraid the number of posts isn't telling everything. He is more active in comments to individual articles where he responds to pretty much everyone who makes a positive comment to Pentax product.

He also injects other brand forums witn negative info on Pentax

Forum Stats
Total messages 118
Comment Stats
Total comments 776

Only on the last article about Ricoh introducing the D-FA85 he has 31 comments/responses
I have copied all the comments on this article and tried to highlight his responses (see attachment) for anyone interested. If you feel this is too much, I am happy to delete this reply
Attachment 501082

In the comments to D-FA85 he claims:
Pentax AF is too bad for shallow depth of field lenses
There are no Pentax pro portrait photographers
All manufacturers abandoned Pentax
Pentax doesn't have the skills to make reliable product
etc...

NOTE: he is NOT the most active but seems to deliberately target everyone who posts positively about Pentax product

I also expect certain user to plaster this link to every Pentax related news or announcement on dpreview, in hundreds.

Apologies, I started the thread trying to understand the motivation of that user because to my mind his fanaticism must have something to do with a personal negative experience with the brand I love. And I wanted to put it in a perspective with my experience so I was able to communicate with him instead of the endless fighting there. Yes, I am also frustrated from negativity, but I am one of those people who prefer constructive engagement over entrenchment. Basically, I am a naive believer that every grudge can be resolved by communication rather than ignorance.

PS: Instagram too had a very robust action against negativity, all they want to see is a shiny perfect happy influencer world. So much so that, for some time, people even got blocked for saying that somebody hacked their account. And then they got blocked or deactivated because they complained that they were blocked. I am full aware that some users' negativity totally spoils the experience (hence this thread), but user blocking may actually create more enemies than a negative discussion. Ignore function is, in my opinion better.

Then again, we live in a world where social media serve us only the stuff we like and this, while useful and comfortable, sews divides in society, growth of extremism and conspiracies which go unchecked, because people who opose don't even see them.

I wasn't referring to mods here, but on dpreview.
And I only brought it up here because he is now using data from pentaxforums to prove his point.

I got kicked out of that forum because I once mentioned that I published a photographic book and I mistakenly posted a link to it. There was no way back, wasn't even allowed to remove the link and explain, just full block

But if you don't go there and don't debunk his intentions, all that people would read in the comments is dpthoughts hate talk.. Ricoh would seem like utter amateurs who cannot even build a tent and all their products either don't work or are made by others. I just don't understand why mods there do nothing about it

I have tried to have some discussion with dpthoughts on dpreview but the user is so full of hate against Pentax I just cannot believe it. I have never met anybody as driven by hate against a brand as he is. He is now using a survey here on pentaxforums about failures on K-S2, K-S1, K-500, K-50, K-30 to make a claim that Ricoh/Pentax lack skills to make good product. Quoting him: So now I just learned, that Pentax is not very skilled mechanically in making cameras neither, which is in contrast to the fanb*y mythology around them. I save my above two posts, so I'll have them ready for re-use when I need to comment the expectable press release about Ricoh quitting their Pentax camera business, when every Pentaxian asks in comments "but why" and "I'm so shocked and surpised".

How do you even react to this? I mean there are people who can actually believe him and not buy Pentax because of his endless claims...

Personally, I haven't used anything other than 28mm (and a bit of the fat50) in the last 3.5 years. I had 24/2 but sold it. I have 35s, but do not use them. On one hand I would vote for the 28 but on the other I love the small size of the FA28 and that is not achievable with 1.4 aperture. So I am crossed on this. 24 is too much distortion for me. 35 is too narrow... long live the FA28
