I know there is a new grip, but does that really means the BG4 grip won't fit and/or work?

Anyone knows or the BG4 wil fit under the K3?
They pins and mechanical layout including the lock-pins looks the same, so it looks like it would fit.
I currently own a K7 with batterygrip en wouldn't like to also spend money at a new batterygrip.

It would also be nice to be able to use my KatzEye Focusing Screen from my K7, but Katz hasn't any info of a K3 screen on there site yet.

Diopter brainstorm

Today i went to the oldest photoshop in our city, you know the type, older guy with huge experiance with almost all the brands that ever existed.

He also didn't know for sure if adding diopter glass would be as simpel as 2+2=4

He didn't had diopter glasses on stock, but was able to try to fit diopter hoods of several camera's on my K7.
Conclusion is that the diopter hood of the Nikon D7000 fits like a glove. He found the -2.00 diopter glass for the D7000, but it don't seems to be orderable, so that was a dead end.

But he had in his famous drawer still some diopter glasses for some old film-type cameras. He found two Canon diopter glasses of -2.5 and -3.0. I could buy those 2 for a couple of bucks. The -2.5 full plastic with soft rubber lining, and one -3.0 with metal bracket and hard plastic front.
The plastic one wasn't possible to make a nice fit, it was to large and covered the diopte adjuster totally. The one with metal bracket was much better and rather easy adjusted.

As of now, i can simply slide the diopter adjuster depending of i am using my glasses or don't use them.

And judging at the possible settings, it seems that the default diopter setting is a bit more than from -2.5 up to +2,5, i still have some adjustment space left when using my glasses.

No offence taken by anybody :D
I have no experiance at all with added diopterglas to a camera.

I am also wearing glasses for some 40 years, and in the last few years i also need reading glasses, or take my glasses off when reading. (reading just with my right eye, my right eye is only +0.5, left eye is +2.25).

But with the K7 i am missing a lot of very good manual shot because they are sligtly of out of focus. so i was wondering of an added diopterglass would improve my shooting. Putting my glasses on and of isn't really a handicap because i would only take pictures without my glasses in special circumstances like makro shooting.

But when you would have to take the added glas on and off of you're camera it really would be a handicap. So that is the reason i wonder if you can add diopter classes so you could set it with the diopter slider when taking makro shots without you're glasses.

I am thinking of getting me an extra diopter glass for my K7 and was thinking of the following.

The default diopter setting is (as far as i know) from -2.5 up to + 2.5.

That isn't enough for me as my glasses are around -3.75

I really don't know if i am talking total nonsense, but hopefully someone on this forum can help me.

Lets say i buy myself a click-on diopterglas of -2.0 Is this something that you can add to the default settingsrange of the camera?
Then the range would be from -4.5 up to + 0.5, making it possible that i can use the camera without my glasses for manual focus, and with my glasses for autofocus, just by simply sliding the default diopter to the required setting.

Again, maybe it is total nonsense, but the idea seems tempting.

The Great Focusing Screen Revelation

I experimented with a lot of focus screens in my K7, even cut some screens of a Pentax MX, a Pentax MV, some Nikon and some Canon screens. And i have bought a screen at focusscreen.com. But none of them did what i tought they should do and they all forced me back to the original screen with all the none problems with manual settings.
So i ordered a screen again at Katzeye. It is in the mail right now, but my former experiances with my K100D are superb.

Years ago when on holliday in Russia (time when Brezhnev was still ruling the country) i managed to take a lot of pics of russian tanks passing by while we where sitting in a touring bus :D

I was sitting near the window, looking inside the bus. The fellow sitting beside me was looking outside and told me when to press the winder button on my Pentax MX.
I never have seen a tour operator running that fast from the front of the bus to where the winder sound was coming from, that is, my camera :D

Want a K-5/K-7 grip for $50?

I have the same grip from DealExtreme, and have no negative issues other then the lack of wheater sealing. But than again, how often are you taking pictures in the rain :ugh:

It really fits like a glove on the K7 and there is nearly no noticeble differance in the material and the appearance of the camara versus the grip.
My grip works like a charm and only get disconnected when i am getting out in the rain.
I really would love to own an original Pentax grip, but simply can't affort a grip of some 300 dollar (that's the price you have to pay here in The Netherlands).
So, i settled with a grip of some 50 dollars of DealExtreme.

What i am saying in so many words, is that Pentax should lower the price of there grips. I am very sure that a huge lot of people would buy a genuine one.

Last week we went to a wildlife park (safaripark BeekseBergen) in The Netherlands. And a real wonder appeard. First i saw someone walking with a K7, and later in a safaribus there even was a guy sitting beside me who was shooting with a ist-d camera.

This was the third and fourth camera ever i saw in the wild beside my own one. (not counting a Pentax K100D who i often see in the wild but is owned to my brother and happens to be my own former K100D )

So, we really are rare (and i love it :) )

I own the same fisheye lens, and indeed it's really great fun.

I'm not sure or the K200d can also shoot movies, but if so, you really should try making a movie while standing on rolling stairs :D

Lens compatibility help!

Some older lenses seems to have a larger flang. Mostly you can remove it, adjust it's length en mount it again.
Removing it totally could cause damage to you're lens when the lenscap fall's of while stored.

You really aren't the first to stumble on this problem :)

I had the Katz in my former K100D, and because of the costs, i ordered a Jin-something screen at ebay.
After a week of using it, i changed back to the original screen.
The Katz is the screen to have.

I also really LOVE the KatzEye, had it on my former K100D and really are missing it on my present K7.
Thing is, they already aren't really cheap, but the taxes and PP to The Netherlands makes them REALLY expensive :(

But when i can affort it, the first addition to my K7 will be the KatzEye.

I tried the chinese version of the splitfocus as wel as cutting an old MX screen end even cutting an old OM screen, but none of them can compare to Katz

Not long ago i shot at a wedding with my K7 and a Metz 45 CT-5. Camera at manual exposure, 1/60 of a second, and reading the dial on the Metz to set the diafragma.
The Metz can take very good care of the exposure.

Pentax K7 3rd party battery grip

I use my thirdparty grip (DealExtreme version) for more than a year right now on almost daily bases with no problem at all. The grip almost never leaves my camera other than for replacing the battery of the camera

You just had bad luck and recieved a defective one.

I really can recomend the DealExtreme version to everyone.

So don't wast you're money on a original one, but buy a DealExtreme version so you have money left to buy an extra lens or so.

Should I buy this remote?

When "B"shooting, first time pressed is shutter open, second time pressed is shutter closed.
If you would have to keep the button pressed as long as you wanted you're "B" shot to last, the danger of loosing connection (moving a bit out of the "line of sight) between you're remote and you're camera would ruin you're shot. I guess that is the reason why Pentax did choose this solution
So even with the al-cheapo remote's shooting "B" isn't a problem

(i own both remote's, Pentax-F and a al-cheapo of DealExtreme. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27842)

Easy fix for that "problem", just mount a cell phone strap to it. Unscrew the remote, cut some very small gaps in the cover, place the strap and reassemble the remote again.

I did the same with my own remote:

I absolutely have a LBA, but can't affort more than what the local fleemarket offers :(

Well, maybe next year when all bills are payed..........

But i agree, i would rather buy something of this forum, than of ebay. One thing i know for sure, people of this forum won't pull my leg

How long will you hold on to your K7?

Well, i upgraded from the K100D to the K7, so i guess i skip the K5 (and maybe even the K3?) until i upgrade again.
I think the differance between the K7 and the K5 isn't enough to justify a upgrade.
