How about an enormous viewfinder, like .96x magnification.

Pentax DA* 300 troubles with focusing/sharpness

That definitely does not sound normal. Are you using a filter at all? If so, remove it. You should never use a uv filter, especially on telephoto lenses where you want to extract maximum detail. A poor quality filter can also hamper af. If you're not using a uv filter, test for back focusing/ front focusing on static objects. I didn't use any software but from testing in the field I found my da* 300 needed +5 af adjustment. If all else fails, look at the inside of the lens to check that it is clean without any fog. If there is fog, return it for another copy.

I've used the 150-500 in the past and while nice, the 300 is definitely sharper. Sharpness isn't everything, though, and the sigma has enough of it anyway. If you don't need the extra light from f4, the sigma may be a better choice. Having trouble finding the bird in the viewfinder is part of using a prime lens. You'll get used to it.

Yeah, once you try using radio triggers, you'll wonder why you ever fussed about with IR remotes.

Got the 77 recently. I don't normally shoot people, so I'm hoping this lens will encourage me to do more portraits.

I could've shot this guy with a wide angle if I'd had one with me. He was very tolerant of my presence. But alas, DA*300 is all I had.

Not sure how to handle the angled buildings. I suppose that's natural for rectilinear lenses.

So I pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it was too difficult to obtain an SMC version aside from the ebay sellers from japan. I saw there was a used HD 15 at B&H for $420, so I bit the bullet and bought the lens. Today the lens arrived and to my great surprise and joy, it's actually an SMC version! Can't wait to try it out!

Great composition! What was this taken with?

Also, it looks a little too dark. I definitely like the twilight mood, but I think the whites could stand to be a bit brighter.

Thanks! 250 gives .84x mag and 150 gives .56x. I'm still curious about The maximum focusing distance, though.

Lens choice - Pentax D FA 100mm f/2.8 WR Macro or Tamron SP 90 mm 2.8

I used to have the tamron, and I've tried the pentax in the store. The tamron feels junky, it's just so plasticky. On the other hand, the pentax is a well designed metal tool that feels great and has a much nicer manual focus ring.

Can anybody please tell me what the max magnification and what infinity focus looks like for both the raynox dcr250 and 150, combined with the 77 1.8?

77 1.8 on film/ 35mm sensor?

I'm interested in how it performs. I'm Curious about corner performance stopped down and what people look like. I like the look of 85's on 35mm and I want to see how 77mm looks. If I get this lens, I'll be using it as a general use lens. Something to keep on my camera when I don't want the 300 f4 to be weighing me down. I'd like to use it for multi-layer Panoramas, telephoto landscapes, portraits, stock photos, and hopefully some macro with the raynox. I'm not particularly interested in street photography, so I don't think I would use a"normal" lens all that much. I had a 28mm on Nikon but I barely used it.

The trouble with the lens sample thread is that hardly anyone says what camera they used and I assume most were taken with aps-c.

Thanks for the samples :)

Thinking about getting this lens or the dfa 100 2.8 wr as my second pentax lens. Right now I only have the 300 f4. I'm Also going to probably get the rokinon 14 2.8. Anyway, I'm sure I'll like it on my K-3, but I'm wondering how it looks on a full-frame camera, as I intend to get the full-frame camera in the future. any samples from film cameras or sony full-frame cameras would be appreciated. As a bonus, anyone know how it plays with the Raynox DCR 250 close-up lens?

I don't think the 14mm is supposed to be soft wide open, though.
