Where to buy Pentax K-1 in Australia

Ordered my K70 through Ted's Camera store in Adelaide, and then had to wait until Pentax Australia supplied their distributor CR Kennedy who supplied Ted's.

Price was better than the RRP from Pentax Australia/CR Kennedy.

Milky Way lens?

don't know what camera you have, but for the Milky Way, I can use the standard 18-55mm kit lens at f4 or my Sigma 10-20 f4

I have a K70 and a K200d, so 3200 or 6400 ISO for the K70 at 20secs.
K200d 20secs at 800 ISO

You don't need a super fast lens, but it does help.

So if you have the kit 18-55, try it out, you'll be surprised what it can do.

so spoilt, but it is a long drive from Melbourne.

Understand your Melbourne weather comments, not so cold in Adelaide, but gets too hot in summer
The sun killed my last back lawn when it hit 48C, that's 3 heat tolerant lawns burnt to a crisp in summer, no amount of watering could save them.

Those giant lagoon pools up north are wonderful, sounds like they are beckoning me again.

thanks MossyRocks.

Yes that makes sense, prefer dots to trails as it is not my aim. I can do trails without any expert guidance, haha

Considering all the talk about "SR on" on a tripod distorting your photos, there really isn't a lot of difference in the images even at that level.

Impressive camera and lens!!!

Photographying in summer with polarizer or sunglasses?

I'm sure sunglasses polarizers are designed to give the WOW impact when you look through them, no thought for colour accuracy.

And each pair has been different in its impact. But it is nowhere near an accurate representation of colour.

But I certainly appreciate their colour rendition, just not for my photos. I like them more natural, just less reflections. Personal choice.

Thanks MossyRocks,

I have done a bit of stacking but was wondering how they compare against in camera averaging.

Has anyone tried it???

Very interesting.

I'm wondering whether in camera averaging would be a good solution for night time shots eg average 8 shots???

And for astrophotography. Might be worth trying next time I'm out.

Nice. The dock grounds it.

I didn't know that going too wide (10mm) would cause trails on the extremities. I'll keep an eye out for that when I use my Sigma 10-20mm f4

Yes, I have the older f4-5.6 lens.

I'm very impressed, usable without corrections from about 14mm. Otherwise run a correction in most photo processing software.
Bought it for Astrophotography but have used it inside for family gathering.

Camera for beginner - thoughts?

I would be talking to the Mum and daughter together find out what she wants to do.

At that age it may not be a serious interest in photography as you have been told.

Also take around a selection of your cameras so she can test them out. Find out what she likes and what she is able to hold and carry
That will send you in the right direction.

My 12yr grandaughter loves my DSLRs but they weigh too much for her, so we bought her a bridge camera (Fujifilm ...) and now she runs around with a tablet to take photos. Go figure.

My best laid plans undone,

Good luck

Should Canon Add IBIS to its Cameras? Phoblographer Article Shows Lack of Research
Posted By Greg1956

I think Canon is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

After championing ILIS as being so, so, so much better than IBIS, it is a bit embarrassing to switch boats. And probably they will have to pay someone else royalties for the technology, ummm won't like that.
My understanding is that ILIS gives better results with long lenses and has an advantage there, but IBIS works better at the low end,

And IBIS gets better with micro 4/3 cameras, I believe it is to do with the crop factor accentuating the movement. (Yes probably wrong on that one, but that is what I've read).

Not sure that adding IBIS to a Canon DSLR will boost sales, it is just part of the package.

My kids and grandkids 10-35yrs see their phones as their main camera.

So until a manufacturer grasps this reality and makes a crossover DSLR with an android based system so they can connect directly to the Net with snapchat, Instagram and other Apps. Then there are likely to be drop offs in sales of most large body cameras.

The younger generation has moved on and the camera companies aren't catering for them.

IBIS will improve Canon's cameras but not necessarily it's sales.

I have both 2450s and 2800s in my K200D.
They were the only ones that didn't give me the flat indication when placed fully charged in my camera.

Best batteries I've ever had

Questions about the k70

That was my thoughts about the KP, what you gain here, you lose there.

And the cost difference was about $A400.

For me it was balancing features vs cost. And the K70 is a very good balance of novice and expert features whilst supposedly being an 'Entry' model camera.

BTW I found that I could get about 300+ photos from my 4xEneloops in the K200 and 200+ on the K70. But I never take that many photos in 1 day, so no issue with battery life. That said I did buy a spare, just in case.

1 thing I have really appreciated with K70 is live view focussing with my old manual lenses, my eyes can't do them justice on the k200. And the magic green button to get the exposure right. Bring those wonderful old lenses back to life!!!

Guess my wife will be using the k200 with af lenses and I'll use the manuals on the K70.

Questions about the k70

I updated a year ago to a K70.
Big step, all the great Pentax features of the K200, but better low light performance, bracketing, individual lens focussing, pixel shift, articulating screen.........
I have not seen much difference in colour rendering between the two either.

It's a camera that you can grow into as it has so many features.

I'm not disappointed with mine and at the time the other option was the KP.

Buy and enjoy.

thanks Des,

that was the first time that I had ever seen any ads for Pentax on TV, mostly it's Nikon.

It was quite a good promo even if it wasn't the best price available, I couldn't get a K70 and lens at that price when I bought mine in 2018.
