Help: Auto ISO under direct ISO doesn't work in MYx settings
Posted By bradsarno

So a strange bug is bugging me on my GR.

In P mode, I can use the lever left and right (without pushing in) for direct ISO control and it will scroll thru all the ISO settings including Auto and Auto-Hi ISO.

But when I copy that setting over to a MY1, MY2, or MY3 presets, I lose that ability - the lever will scroll thru ISO settings but will not include the Auto or Auto-Hi as an option. Then I'm forced to enter ISO mode and scroll and RE-select Auto or Auto-Hi.

Any tips?

Thanks,
Brad

My take on mirrorless as it relates to real pro's or those who shoot with pro gear is that it's ALL about the electronic viewfinders becoming good enough someday that eventually people will give up the requirement of an optical view. And as it's been stated, that removes the need for a mirror. That reduces, for the better, the distance the last lens element must be to the sensor. There are size, weight, and optical benefits here. With the mirrorless system there are silent shutter benefits, low-light viewfinder visibility benefits And then that requires a new line of lenses to mate to this design. I think Ricoh knows that if they go in, they gotta go in big and try to do something special, something better.

I think that in 4 to 5 years, we'll see a critical mass huge number of pro-shooters happily adopt a new mirrorless, interchangeable system if the mirrorless tech keeps developing at this impressive rate. And I think the DSLR will be around for a long, long time, just far less dominant in the pro world as it is today.

Just speculating.

For them to survive, Pentax/Ricoh must jump in big with the mirrorless thing. Mirrorless is the future, I have absolutely no doubt. It will require a new line of lenses and mount. Optically they'll have to beat Sony, which is easy. They can try to compete with Fuji, much tougher because of Fuji's amazing glass. They may be able to time this after the "retro" fad mellows out and truly design something out of pure ergonomics with just a subtle nod to the retro/nostalgic stylings. Now that Sony, Fuji, Canon, Lumix, and Olympus have refined and honed in on what works and what people want, Ricoh/Pentax can take advantage of this knowledge and market and really dive in with a shot at success. The upside for them is that they'd be embarking on a new line that can grow for many years to come. Just look at how Fuji jumped in with only 3 primes. Now their lens lineup is huge and still growing.

Full Frame is not where it's gonna be at. People want smaller, and since sensors are becoming SO good, APS-C is plenty big for the future of pro, mirrorless, interchangeable lens cameras.

PENTAX Digital Camera Utility 5.4.2 Update

It just seems to me that life as a photographer is about wrangling tens of thousands of photos. Lightroom is not that expensive. I'm still on version 4. The tools and the speed with which I can use them are invaluable. The other fundamental upside is the library organization, file handling from import to export. My whole photographic world is shooting raw and pulling everything into and thru Lightroom. I just can't imagine wasting my time with these lesser apps that don't even help me organize my photo world. It seems costly and wasteful and frustrating. Time is money...

I see that some of these apps DO handle file libraries to some degree... Didn't know that...

Do people actually use these Silkypix apps? I tried once or twice over the years, and it was a purely miserable experience, just a garbage and unpleasant experience all the way thru. A poorly designed app with a horrendous workflow and interface. All I use is Lightroom, and I can't imagine anyone using anything but Lightroom or Capture One for file management and RAW photo editing.

I was just back outside for more fun with this K28 f3.5 on my K-01. Here are some bright, daytime shots of this cool looking railroad spur bridge over a creek nearby. This is clearly a landscape lens. I'm still learning it, but what really jumps out is the color quality and the nice detail and contrast in the shadows and mids. 28mm on a crop sensor is a great walkaround focal length for me as well.

Lots of interesting fall colors, creek green vegetation, and aged, rusty metal here.

All shot at f11

Some pic's from this evening. My real first outing with this newly acquired lens.

All pretty low light, golden hour stuff. Shot with K-01 and with a 52mm rubber hood on the K28. ISO ranges from 200 to 1600. Aperture all over the place. Shutter speeds all over the place too.

It's really fun now owning this K28/3.5, I recognize its color characteristics when I see others' photos. It's got a look to it, definitely.

Here's a shot that shows the nice color but with a crop to show the sharpness as well. And really, I didn't nail the focus.

And you know, the bokeh isn't bad at all.

I just got my first K lens today, a 28mm f3.5. Hoping to get some more time with it tomorrow in the daylight.

These pic's are barely altered. The saturation/color was left entirely alone on the birdbath and sky shot. The creek/bridge shot has a tiny bit of increased saturation.

I left the contrast alone on the birdbath and creek shot, but I did increase some midtone contrast on the sky shot.

My first reaction to this lens is the color. The sharpness seems quite good too.

All shot with my K-01
