Optimal settings for K3 ii for image quality, performance and various conditions.

Shooting in a Raw format such as DNG will give you the most information out of the camera sensor and thus (after editing) the best image quality. All those setting mentioned only effect JPEGs and have no impact on the raw data.

Pentax 645D: why can't I get the Focus Point selector to move from the center????

To my knowledge, those are for auto focus and don't function with manual focus lenses. Only the center point is active.

Question reports of a virus here

u/rollingrawhide on reddit just posted this which I find disturbing if true? Any verification regarding his/her claim?

Trojan virus warning for pentaxforums.com : photography

I visited the said forums a few weeks ago and I've been an infrequent visitor for a number of years.

Tonight I visited and instantly got a warning from multiple Anti-virus/Anti-Malware products which I have installed.

It seems that the site owner has installed the crypto-loot virtual currency mining trojan virus. It's a bit of Javascript thats available to site owners if they want it, then they get a share of any virtual currency mined by their visitors.

It basically means they use the CPU power of visitors to mine virtual currency. In this case the virtual currency is Monero.

I didnt know who to tell about it, but I figured reddit would get the word out.

This is a very new virus apparently, similar to coinhive which has been around longer. Nevertheless, I dont want someone else profiting from my hard earned computer hardware and perhaps you dont either!

Just a heads up if you're a visitor there.

There are usually only 3 colors of commercial LEDs. Cool, white and warm which have corresponding Kelvin values around 5000-6500, 3200-4500, and 2000-3000. It should be trivially easy to set a custom white balance any time, but you could also just get close with custom Kelvin setting as well.

Happened in Canada, so check out the laws there, not US but...

She was jogging in a public place, but the camera man specifically videoed her running. She specifically try to block her face, but the camera man kept videoing. Her "scene" in the video was a split screen with 2 other anonymous people.

It was then used in a commercial piece to advertise the selling of some condominiums.

She also complained to the condo company to not be a part of it, and they complied and took down the video. But the media company that made the video didn't comply and didn't take the video down.

HD D FA 24-70 f2.8 vs HD D FA 28-105 Low Light AF

The narrower aperture of the 28-105 means that it will have more trouble focusing in the dark than the 24-70. If you are zoomed in, the 28-105 is at f/5.6 while the 24-70 is still at f/2.8, which is 4x the amount of light making it to the focus sensors.

We don't know what version of photoshop you are using, but if its older, the camera might be newer than the software and be unsupported.

PEF is Pentax proprietary format (like Canon CR2 and Nikon NEF) while DNG is a standard created by Adobe. They both contain the same information. There is, functionally, no difference. However, edits to DNG files get embedded in the DNG file, whereas PEF must create a sidecar xmp file.

This also doesn't seem to have anything to do with this thread. So further discussion probably warrants its own thread.

Not the same sensor. I believe it was the GX10 and GX20 that where rebadged pentaxes (K10d and K20d, respectively). The K20d had a 14MP sensor.

I took this with the 35mm f/2.4 and the K-1 -- Apart from not being as wide as you might need, it should work fine for some night sky shots

Works great! There is some vignetting at f/2.4, but it's easily corrected in post, and above that is gone.
