Thanks for the thoughtful post.

If you were looking for an L-bracket to work with the grip,
it should be easy to custom-make one.

If you or your friends are not skilled in that direction,
there are companies like SRB Griturn who can make one for you.

Gotta say, as someone who's been following Pentax's ventures into mirrorless over the years,
"Ricoh not knowing what they want to do and changing their mind all the time" certainly resonates with me.

K3ii replacement

Their existing mirrorless system already has a new lens ready (09 Telephoto Macro).
Then would it really take that much to do a Q-S2 with the Sony 20 MP 1/1.7" IMX 204 sensor?
There could even be some cross-fertilizing of development from Ricoh's automotive camera efforts.

For longer hand-held exposures with my mirrorless cameras (Q's, K-01),
I rest my elbow against the side of my rib cage.

This gives a stable hold while viewing the rear screen
(and the balanced leaf shutters in the Q's also play their part).

BTW, who'da thunk the K3ii would be discontinued on the Ricoh site before the Q-S1?

Behind-the-Mount 20-40 for K-01

If you give the front of the lens
a gentle inward push to start the retraction,
it actually works quite smoothly.

For a kit lens, the rendering is very pleasing,
much better than the muddy DA 18-55 II.

M42 to digital

This is why I use a K-01 for my M42 lenses.

I have a very nice ISCO plastic-fantastic version of a Schneider Curtagon 35/2.8
that would hang up on the mirror of my Spotmatic.

The native live-view of the K-01 is ideal for precise focusing,
and for framing at the taking aperture.
Metering is automatic.

It doesn't get any better than that!

Actually less of a problem for digital, as you don't need to mess with graduated filters to correct.
Photozone tested a Leica-mount version on a Sony E-mount camera,
and it did OK for a really compact ultra-wide.

A lot of satisfied DA 15 Ltd users would disagree.

Yes, the Heliar has a helicoid!

Behind-the-Mount 20-40 for K-01

Until I saw what the 08 could do on a Q-7 or Q-S1,
I used to wish Pentax had done something like the Voigtlaender Heliar 12/5.6 for the K-01:

Would have made a great compact kit for real estate photographers.
And without protruding into the mount, this would be a bulky retrofocus lens.

Yes, the obvious problem with that is,
how do you know what aperture the tiny camera was using? :)

The way I read @rico's post,
it was just a suggestion to use the wheel
to set a manual indication
(in EXIF and the viewfinder display)
of the manually chosen aperture.

I focus in live view for that.

You can adjust the PDAF,
but only for one particular distance.
For example, my DA 70 on my K 50
is accurate with PDAF for longer distances,
but not for shorter ones.

I'm quite happy using Pentax for sports and moving objects,
just prefocusing for where I want the shot,
then wait for the action to move there (the sniper technique!).
These are habits learned back in the day
when manual focus was the only option.

the limiteds do they live up to the reputation and why

With all this talk about the apertures of the DA Limited non-macro primes,
it's worth remembering their design philosophy.

Why do we have a 70/2.4, 40/2.8. 21/3.2, and 15/4?

If the minimum hand-held shutter speed in seconds is 1/(focal length in mm),
then the maximum apertures roughly match equal exposure values (EV).

(And if you're going to use a tripod, you don't need the compactness of the DA Limited lenses.)

There are several forum members using "Leitaxed" ZF lenses,
which are essentially "OEM Zeiss K-mount solutions that don’t ... match Ka functionality"

See here, for example:

Not trivial enough for Zeiss, apparently.

For example, their 2.8/15 is available in M42, but not K mount.

There is, of course, no known cure for LBA,
but the DA 20-40 will at least put it in remission for a while.

When travelling,
I used to keep switching back and forth between a K 24/2.8 and the DA 35 macro for mid-range coverage,
but the DA 20-40 now takes care of all of that (except for real close-ups and macros).

Autofocus problem with KS 2

Hi Maureen, welcome to the forum, and sorry to hear about your problem.

Just to make sure all the bases are covered,
have you tried switching back and forth between AF and MF?

Although the camera is "weather-resistant",
I'm thinking some dirt could have got in to the switch,
and moving the switch a few times might clean it.

(Clutching a straw here!)

Zero compensation on my K-x and K-01 is about the same as -1 on my K-S2.
