Poll: primes vs zooms ?

In the end, it just comes down to preference. It's not always about quality. Not all primes are better than comparative zooms. Not all zooms measure up to comparative primes. No one is forcing anyone to buy zooms or primes. Any photographer should by what fits their needs and satisfies their desires.

I enjoy using primes a lot. I like to work with that fixed focal length. Other people don't. I also don't mind changing lenses, which I seldom do anyway out of laziness. If I have a prime on my camera, then I will make the shot work with that lens, rather than try another lens. Usually, I start a shot with a lens and finish it with that lens. I never just switch midway.

Something I've noticed over the years is that primes and zooms require very different shooting styles. It's not so cut and dry as fixed vs. variable focal length. It can never be that simple.

I don't think anyone has said that using zooms makes a photographer lazy. I know I said that using primes requires a little more creativity to get the right perspective and framing because you have a fixed focal length and can only do so much with it.

I could try, but I'm not going to. I respect your opinion. However, I've found most primes to be sharper than zooms at the same focal length and aperture. It's just an observation.

When I had more primes, I just usually threw one on my body and put one or two along with some filters in my pockets. I rarely ever changed lenses; many times, I didn't think I needed to. It's good to work on your feet. I also like fixed-focal length lenses because it seems that they require more creativity to get the right perspective and framing for a scene. To me shooting with primes, isn't inconveninet at all. I very much enjoy it. Of course, I want to get back into this, which is why I'm workingo n rebuilding my collection.
