SR II on K-1 MKII will offer Dynamic (handheld) Pixel Shift Resolution

As a K-1 owner, yes. This.

I expect the changes are at the hardware level as well as the software and could not be walked back into the older camera. There may be some image processing tweaks that can be retrofitted in firmware, but that's about all I would seriously expect.

Online Photographer suggests 'nested' two lens kit for K1

Interesting. When I set out to spoil myself with lenses for my *istDL many moons ago, I bought the ultimate in nested extremes - the DA18-250 and the DA 40 Limited, probably the biggest and smallest regular consumer AF lens available for K mount at the time. And I did it not even knowing what a nested pair was!!!

I appreciate the fact that he's enthusiastic about the K-1, but he does perhaps sound a little TOO enthusiastic. It's far from a perfect camera, though I do admit it does almost everything I want it to (very, very rarely I feel the lack of an inbuilt flash, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought it).

M42 to digital

Me too, though I went back to it for fun shots. For professional work (particularly in my case, for medical photography where you may not get another chance to repeat the shot because the clinical picture changes or you're about to disassemble the specimen in the histo lab or the autopsy suite), digital has so many advantages it just isn't funny.

Post in the Wanted section and see if there's anyone wanting to get rid of their aperture-block-failed K30 or K50 at a discount - if you want a capable Takumar-dedicated body at a bargain price, that would be hard to beat. You could then mount the adapter permanently.

Ultimately it depends on how comfortable you are with film and which cameras you are using currently. The workflow for shooting and metering is different, as M42 Pentax cameras will let you set aperture, shutter speed, and close down the aperture automatically, so you can focus and compose at widest aperture (even if you need to close down briefly to meter). DSLRs require you always to stop down for the correct exposure as they lack the flapper plate to actuate the aperture... so if you have to refocus or recompose, that can be an issue in lower light. On the other hand, aperture priority mode will adjust the exposure automatically on the fly for you.

Your 50mm is incorrectly advertised as an f/1.7 in the subject line; you may want to correct this.

That's a great little package for a serious beginner; unfortunately I am well supplied with APS-C cameras and grossly oversupplied with lenses at the moment and must decline.

I'm out and done. Super Tak 50/1.4 (radioactive version) was a great lens, fun to work with, sharp when it needs to be, and the *istDS proved to me that there was never anything wrong with the analogue TTL protocol in a DSLR, and that the 6.1MP CCD sensor was quite fine for general use, thank you; I wish we could have got a full-frame version from the same maker. Also that a tripod, even a modest one, makes many things possible that would otherwise not have been, and should be in every photographer's armamentarium together with a modest fast fifty and some means of remote or no-touch shutter release.

But the last couple of days have been nasty outside, 100kph winds almost constantly, and inside was getting stale. Time to hang up single-in - at least I made it to Christmas, more or less.

Insane. I would have thought that would be the very first lens for most of the people who owned one. While I don't, I put my 55/1.2 Rikenon-P on for my very first K-1 shot. Because after all, what could be more appropriate than to take the first picture on the K-1 with an f/1.2 Ricoh prime? :p

I'm glad this month is coming to an end. Busy at work with multiple changes which both subtract from and significantly add to my workload, so major adaptation required, plus competing leisure-time activities and the mad Christmas rush, mean I am drained. Thank heavens for my wife's inventiveness with Elf on the Shelf, which has mostly kept me amused and interested in taking pictures; I don't know what I'm going to do when that's over.

At the end of this month, though, that's it. I'm done, through, finished. No more single-in; the pressure to produce is something I really don't need right now. Look for my work in various specific body- and lens-related subforums.

Merry Christmas, all.

If I had that combination of lenses, I would leave it well alone and not buy or sell a thing. This is speaking as the long-term owner of a K-5, which has served me very well with a variety of glass.

OEM flash options for Pentax ME?

I had considered getting one of those, for MX flexibility in an ME-sized package, but was dissuaded by the film-transport issues that seem to plague this model. From everything I've read, the ME - while no MX - is a better-constructed camera internally than any of its successors, and with Eric currently on hiatus I wouldn't want to take a chance.

I have experimented with forcing a shutter speed selection in circumstances of unmoving subject and unchanging light by metering off it at very close range and then backing off to compose and turning the ASA dial till I get exactly what I metered. Fortunately, my ME has a holder on the back for the lid of a film box, so remembering what I actually have in the camera is not an issue.

Well it would be thicker, or else they would have made a digital version of the MX long ago. Is there anyone out there with both a KP and an *istDS or DL? I feel they might just be in the same general league.

DA 16-85 and DFA 28-105 differences and my initial assessment
Posted By pathdoc

The DFA28-105 may nominally be a green-ring lens, but it seems to have stolen a sprinkle of Pixie Dust. I was considering one, but the number of things my kids are in that require photographs in relatively poor light at a distance is pushing me toward the D-FA* 70-200 first. In the meantime, the 100WR is my go-to foul weather lens, as it almost always has enough FOV for most outdoor shots I want, and when the passing parade passes close, it gives me the close-up details if I want them.

The only thing missing that the general public might recognise is the self-timer lever.

Gawd, that KP is compact. I think I might have to try to handle one when I'm next abroad. It's definitely taller than the AP, but it looks significantly narrower (and the pre-Spotmatics are not large cameras).
