Is it worth upgrading from a 200mm f/4 manual lens to a 150mm f/3.5 manual lens

I have both, and I agree. Neither is razor-sharp wide open but both are very usable.

Wowzers, this one's currently at #56. Lego figures may be an advantage, but catching OzzRod is better! (Or is it because this is a K-1 photo of a K-1?)

And again with the 55/1.8. It's our buddy OzzRod. Wide open by mistake; forgot I had the camera in Av.

That's a great recipe in ColorEfex Pro, very Portra-like. I missed my chance for a 10-year commemoration of my K10D, also my first DSLR, bought in 2007.

Got my final rolls of slide film back, a bit disappointing. So to fill out my set I add two from a December trip to Zion National Park with the K-1, which I had acquired just a few days before. Both were made with the Pentax "K series" 30/2.8 lens, a favorite of mine whether on crop or full frame.

For me the advantages of pairing Pentax 645 lenses and the K-1 are that I already own the lenses, that I gain tilt/shift function with the Mirex adapater, and that I can easily carry a mixed film/digital kit (645 film, K-mount digital) sharing lenses. But, other than the 120 macro, I see no advantage to the 645 lenses per se. They work well, but so do the old K-mount lenses, which are smaller and lighter (and, in most cases, faster max aperture), and easier to use on the K-1.

How many lenses: not more than I had two years ago, late 2015 being the last time I bought a lens. And it's one I use a lot.

How many lenses: not fewer than I had two years ago. Despite having way too many lenses I haven't got rid of any. Keep telling myself I will.

Here's one from a different 55, the Pentax-A 645 55/2.8:

I had inadvertently left the camera on ISO 1600 from an earlier session, but the extra noise isn't a problem.

Thank you! Personally, I find the limitations of slide film very liberating.

Thanks much!

Yep, a 6x17 format camera, with all the same movements as a 4x5 field camera. 4 exposures per roll of 120. Since I already had a 4x5 with lenses I didn't have to buy new lenses, nor even lens boards (I have everything on Technika-type boards). I barely used the 6x17 in 2017 (just one roll) and didn't use the 4x5 at all, but I intend to correct that this year (indeed, I've already had the 4x5 out for a weekend). It did seem odd to go "backwards" from digital to film, but it's just another set of photographic tools and I enjoy it all. Prices might not be quite as rock-bottom as a few years ago, but much large-format gear is still amazingly cheap compared to what it was in the film era.

Thanks! OK, when I get those last two rolls back I'll see if I can find two more to add, whether from those rolls or elsewhere.

Our one visit to Australia was in 2006. We planned to spend time among the snow gums but had to change plans because of those fires. This is a wonderful image.

We stayed a couple of nights in a cabin somewhere just outside the park entrance, probably out there in the fog somewhere. Again, beautiful, brings back memories.

All right, I don't mind posting mine now. I might revise the list once I get my final two rolls back, but right now this is a clear 10 favorite for me (I did 10 rather than 12 because I have done a 10 favorite for several years now). I will present these roughly in order from #10 to #1, although my opinions on that are likely to change from day to day.

First, one from our October/November trip to Utah, made with my wife's point-and-shoot. I was shooting 645 film that day, but this was my favorite from this extraordinary place.

Kolob Pastels
Panasonic ZS-40

Later in the same trip, making use of reflected light in Capitol Reef National Park:

Zebra Wall
Pentax 645N
A150/3.5
Velvia 50

Early fall closer to home, a different look at a spot I love to visit but where I had fallen into a photographic rut:

Mountain Time
Pentax 645N
A150/3.5
Fujifilm Pro 400H

Same trip, I learned about a new spot, difficult to reach:

Water Pressure
Pentax 645N
A55/2.8
Fujifilm Velvia 50

Another from that trip, made while standing in the river, holding an umbrella to keep the rain off:

Harbinger of Fall
Pentax 645N
FA35/3.5
Fujifilm Velvia 50

Made at the end of the year, surprisingly my only B&W entry for the set:

Sentinels
Shen Hao TFC 617-A
Caltar II-N 135/5.6
Ilford FP4+

This Colton-style polyptych is edited from a scan of a single strip of film:

Headlong
Pentax 645N
FA75/2.8
Fujifilm Pro 400H

I did not ignore my trusty K-5! From a wonderfully foggy morning at one of my favorite local spots:

Eno Fog
Pentax K-5
K55/1.8

Also with the K-5, a shift panorama using the Rokinon 24mm tilt/shift lens. This is, I think, an unusual look at an iconic tourist spot:

Secret Garden
Pentax K-5
Rokinon 24/3.5 tilt/shift

Finally, one more from the Utah trip. As soon as I saw the cows I knew the image I wanted, and luckily they cooperated long enough for me to get into position and make this quarter-second exposure:

Cows, Factory Butte
Pentax 645N
A200/4
Fujifilm Provia 100

Thanks for looking!

I'm still waiting on two rolls of film. E6, so I don't have a local option, and I went cheap and slow for this order. Between that and my travel schedule, scanning and processing, I might not be posting my list for another month or more.

Pixel shift, the greatest thing since ... sliced bread!

(It's an American colloquialism to praise something by calling it "the greatest thing since sliced bread".)
