They likely meant a hot mirror filter. Although I’m a little fuzzy on why it’s called that.

Sigma canada (Gentek) mount replacement

So just an update on this. Received lens back. No charge. They replaced parts of the mount, updated the firmware, replaced the main pcb, and rebuilt the rear element cluster. Lens works great now and focuses properly in live view. Other than their communication being a bit spotty I have no complaints.

I delivered it in person hoping they could do it while I wait. Obviously that was overly optimistic.

Sigma canada (Gentek) mount replacement

So I sent a sigma 70-200mm hsm macro ii lens in for the mount replacement and firmware upgrade to work on a k1 and it’s been in for a month now, so emailed for an update and received this as a partial reply:

“Sigma was unable to supply the whole bayonet but can provide the necessary parts for modification”

So I guess they may be running out of Pentax parts now...
Service time is likely to be six weeks, but won’t know until it’s back in my hands. Hope “the necessary parts” was worth not having the lens for that long.

I thought of this coupled to the k1 tilting screen a while ago. Makes sense.

Hadn’t heard of Pisgah, so I looked it up. The website has advice for these occurrences.

a word of caution, always be careful around waterfalls! Mossy covered rocks are VERY slippery and fatalities occur every year on the waterfalls. Particularly stay away from the tops of falls. There is gravity in abundance in such areas

Best advice on a gov. Website I’ve ever seen.

Sigma 70-200 HSM macro from marketplace issues

Hi all,

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m waiting on Gentec to reply. I sent them an additional email. Hopefully they respond. Four days to respond seems slow for a business. My hope is they will adjust for under 100, but we will see.

Sigma 70-200 HSM macro from marketplace issues

HI all,

Recently purchased a lens through the marketplace. Sigma 70-200 hsm macro II. Nice cosmetic condition, described as "almost perfect". Upon receiving it, tested it on my K3. No liveview focus. Just racks in and out. Looked it up, and looks like a firmware update is needed.... I can live with that and rarely use liveview anyways. However, through the viewfinder the lens frontfocuses 4-6 inches at 10 feet from the target even when maximum in-body correction is used. I have many other lenses (embarrasing amount really), and the majority of them need no adjustment. So, not the body.
When contacted, the seller's reply was that he didn't use liveview (I can believe that) and that he didn't use the lens at 2.8 and has no shots to share at 2.8 (I wanted to see if maybe it became unaligned in shipping) and was always happy with the results. I've contacted Sigma repair (GENTEK here in Canada) but have no response back yet as to cost and feasibility of fixing a decade-old lens.

SO, long story short, any words of wisdom?

Cheers,

MEB

Question about sigma 300mm 2.8

Thanks eminker... I do have the holder which has a clear filter in it currently. That's interesting about the sigma being a single piece... I'm supposing I should just buy it then as others may or may not work... if an owner of the sigma could chime in that'd be great.

Question about sigma 300mm 2.8

So I bought a mint copy of this lens but it didn't have the circular polarizer. Does anyone know if other 46mm polarizers will work or is the sigma optically special in some way or a weird thread or something?

It's also prerelease firmware. So will likely be even better in real world. I'm impressed.

Your shake reduction is on... If you're using a tripod that would be what's causing it... otherwise need the exif.

Sorry about the lens. If you're willing to part with the hood and caps I'd be willing to purchase those. Might help a little towards a replacement.

I figure all rumours need to start somewhere, so why not here. I was contemplating why the new tilting screen was designed the way it is. Here's what I think. It's actually feeding information to the ibis and has the ability (when turned on) to tilt/shift the sensor plane to enable any lens to be a tilt shift in all directions.

Sorry, I shouldn't be allowed to post past my bedtime. Of course you said Beaver.

I haven't tried the pentax 150-450 yet, but I hear lots of good things about it.

Really big birds (Either an Otter of a Beaver bush plane, I think it's an Otter, the Beaver has a stubbier nose.)

Personally for wildlife I'd be looking at a Sigma 150-500 if I could find it, but the 60-250 with the 1.4 TC will be just fine if you already own it. It makes up for it's shorter length with great IQ. I also often carry the A-400 which with the 1.4 TC gives me 560 ƒ8, but a lot of times I don't even get it out, the 60-250 is enough, and sharper.

The plane is actually neither, it's a DHC-2 Beaver.

I'd recommend a sigma 50-500 as long as you have a K3. I used mine with a K& and the focusing was very frustrating. The K3 makes it a whole new lens.

The FA43 (vs DA40) - misfocusing?

I had a K7 and recently upgraded to the K3. It's the focusing system of the K7 that's the weak link. The K3 hits things I would have had no chance to get with the K7.

It would kind of make sense to me that since they'll have in-body stabilization for the full frame that it wouldn't be too difficult to put it into the MF bodies. They've obviously strengthened the micromotors for the k3 I I so it stands to reason they could handle a larger sensor. Wether that comes out this year is another matter.

I have this lens (across the GTA from you). It's a great lens. I have an adaptall 300 2.8 and the sigma has much superior contrast and colours. Sharpness is actually fairly close as well. Mine needs an adjustment on my K3, but once it's dialed in it's really hard to beat.

So, I just received a 16-50 that was on ebay with 'a hair in it' as/is. Paid 300 US for it. The great news is that it's fully functional (including SDM) and I can't find any hair anywhere in it. It's very, very sharp right from 2.8 (and has a cool serial number (9048000)). Only gripe is no caps or hood, but I think my 12-24 hood may work, and I can spring for the hood and caps if necessary. It will live on my K3 from now on.

Anyone looking to purchase a 560 can check this out:

Pentax DA 560mm f5.6 ED AW | cameras, camcorders | Markham / York Region | Kijiji

Price is very reasonable (still out of my league currently). I'm not in anyway associated with the seller, just passing info along.

Cheers
