Sent my k70 to Precision this morning. Cost was comparable to what you paid. I trust I will also have satisfactory results.

Mine was purchased in April 2018 from B&H. I might be wrong in assuming it was manufactured after 2015. Is there a source to check this?

a few minutes ago i posted a request for advice on repair service for my K-70. With the pandemic keeping me home I have a month at least to wait for that to be done. Yet it seems that there is a chance we will get back on the road (RV) this summer and I believe in redundancy if replacement can be a problem. A second K70 would be ideal and when there is no problem I really like that camera. BUT, once bitten, twice shy, The KP new or used is the current favorite. The KP uses the same battery as the K 70 so I guess that would be a good enough reason. To get to the question, has anyone used the KP and/or other models, especially the K 70 and is IMAGE QUALITY noticeably better with the KP?

Just to be sure i used Method 1 and it determined my K 70 is suffering Aperture Block. Precision and KEH seem to be the most expensive repair I assume they replace the solenoid. Phototronic and PC35 Photolab are less expensive and apparently they "adjust" the solenoid. I would like some guidance, especially from K 70 users who have dealt with this problem. Before you suggest it there is NO WAY I am going to DIY. Advice or other vendors?

Contest ends at 11:59 PM EST (US) March 5, 2021

Any forum member may invent and post a caption for the photo as a reply in this thread.

All readers of the thread, including those posting captions are encouraged to vote for any and all of the captions they appreciate by "Liking" them using the Forum's LIKE feature ('thumbs up" turns green when clicked). At the end of the contest period, the host will compare the votes and report who won. In the case of a tie, the Host will break the tie (possibly a third entry), but will not otherwise submit a caption or vote.

The winner will be notified ASAP by the current host by PM and posting the winner in this thread. The new Host should post a link in this thread to the new contest thread.

Submissions should be via text (no video or audio files) - any caption, limerick, motivational poem or verse or prose is permitted - whatever inspires you to describe the photo or catch attention. Contestants may submit more than one entry but it must be in a separate post for voting purposes.

IMPORTANT:

Even if you do not submit an entry, please "like" any postings you feel deserve it as this is how the winner is chosen. If you DO SUBMIT an entry, please also find an entry that you like among your competitors efforts and "like" at least one of them as well. Enter often, vote more often, and most importantly, HAVE FUN !!! Remember, you can 'vote' for more than one entry if you choose to do so.

If the image is too big for you, edit your account "Settings and Options" for a smaller display size.

Every entry was compelling as a photo and a story. The theme was perhaps a bit personal. I find I need a theme to direct my photography for comfort. Just wandering seldom produces many images and those are usually mundane. The themes can be general, a particular environment, wildlife, etc. or focused, steam railroads, old architecture, or a narrowly focused (pilgrimage), movie location, a particular person, or a photographer such as Adams or Edward Curtis. I am currently assembling a personal photobook of theme pilgrimage so that is where the idea originated.

Any entry could be justified as a winner. I am choosing noelcmn as it "spoke to me" in many ways. The minimalist aircraft of atupdate was intriguing, Vaskebjorn's photo is an example of being able to "feel" the environment. LeCat, well I love boats, and djb47 I watched John Ford's, Stagecoach, a couple night's ago and you are at or near one of the actual camera locations. The MV is a big place so i guess i share a pilgrimage location with you. JCHorst, I am in no way religious but your photo is a wonderful dramatic capture. And you others, aaacb, Turbo Bird, and Special K, watch for me in the mountains, I will be the old guy fumbling around with his camera, you can give me some hints.

I understood that and if my response seemed negative in any way, I am sorry, I had no such intention. You were entirely correct. Besides, one person's pilgrimage may be another's weekend fishing.

I cannot see any reason why the photos cannot include text and you are correct that this challenge may well need it. It will be impressive if the photo can "stand alone," and tell a story but it would be difficult especially with the wide variety of cultures we have on PF.

Weekly Challenge #524 -Pilgrimage

Welcome to Weekly Challenge #524 Pilgrimage

It is spot, place, location you were inspired to visit. As you are a photographer, you took a photo. What I am thinking of is a place beyond a generic "bucket list." The location, object, whatever is/was important to you.

My examples are the remains of the Joseph Curl Farm. My father-in-law grew up there and he told a lot of stories of depression era life and the dust bowl. The other photo is of John Ford Point in Monument Valley, Navaho Nation, Arizona. I grew up watching John Ford's movies and still do. They were part of my interest in history and now are an entertaining way to study photography.

The challenge will include all entries posted BEFORE February 15th.

The fine print:
Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

1. Post ONE photo.
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

I will have to test this as I have one Watson in my battery rotation. My experience is that the first frame will be dark (seriously underexposed) not black. What would cause this?

I have had what may be the same thing happen a couple times. It has been the first image of the day. It may be the dreaded aperture/solenoid, however it goes to post processing and I can recover the image to a useable level. I may be whistling past the graveyard but I pretend it is just user-error of not paying attention to the focus point. I am usually starting early in the morning when the light contrasts can be extreme.

Simple short answer is $$, repair vs new or used (including warranty). A longer answer (one that is bothering me), "What do I need?"

I reviewed the transaction through Paypal on a bank credit card and found no transaction fee. This was, however, two and a half years ago. On occasions where I have had to pay transaction fees they were small. I also bought the workbook and I seem to remember it shipped from a US location so that was not an issue either.
