"Tune up" package for my laptop - is it worth it?

Slightly OT but Dell left me swinging in the breeze for a month when my new laptop had a problem and it made running my business very, very difficult so they'll never get another cent out of me. Their "support" was worth jacks**t when I needed them.

So far the Lenovo has worked faultlessly. Good enough for me.

"Tune up" package for my laptop - is it worth it?

I use a Lenovo laptop for work and it does the job very well. Every so often I get a pop up from Levovo offering to scan my laptop for "performance issues" and, probably inevitably, it finds some issues that "need fixing". Of course there's an offer to buy a support programme that will scan and fix these issues every week.
I haven't noticed any problems with my laptops performance so what do the people with better IT knowledge than me think? Is it worth signing up for the package or are they a waste of money? It's not expensive ($40 for a year) but there's no point spending the money if it won't have any benefit. Thanks.

I had one of the zooms once. I agree with the first part of your sentiment but not the second. IMHO they were the low point of Pentax lens design.

Sorry.............probably not what you wanted to read ;)

If you're contemplating buying something new then just think about the resources that will be used in it's manufacture and remember that everything ends up in landfill eventually. And if it's a used item then buying it will put you $xx further away from retirement.

Those are the things that work for me.

And try holding off for 72 hours to decide if you really need it after all.................it works.

Why not much love for the KP?

I suspect that the non - typical placement of the front dial and the, again, non - typical, interchangeable grips might have caught some people by surprise and might have put a few off. But for those who have it - it's an amazing camera. I love using both of mine.

I've had a bit of a windfall that I'm trying to justify using to buy a K3iii but I can't find enough advantages (speaking just for myself) to replace the KP to go ahead with the transaction.

I got a text at 0838 yesterday morning from Fedex saying that my lens would be delivered that day. That was great news except that we were going to be out until early afternoon and I didn't know if they would leave it at the door, so I thought I might end up having to make a trip to their depot to collect it on Monday. Oh well, that's how it goes.

As we were on our way home I got another text telling me they had tried to deliver and they would send details of how I could collect it. As luck would have it the card in the door said it could be collected from a newsagent about a 5 minute drive away so I went and picked it up. I was surprised to find on the box that it was a "limited edition" lens and I don't know how many of the SMC 70mm they made in silver but I have to admit that it looks pretty classy on my silver KP.

About 5 minutes after I put a WTB ad in the Wanted section here for a DA 70mm (preferably silver) I found one in Japan while I was rummaging about through Ebay. It was actually cheaper than I had been expecting to pay and included free Fedex shipping so I jumped on it. It's now on it's way here, having taken the scenic route from Japan to Taiwan to China, the Phillipines and it's currently languishing in a Fedex warehouse in Singapore. I suspect that they have just been putting it on the next plane out of wherever it is as long as the plane is heading towards Australia........eventually.

Oof, sorry to hear about this. This is eerily similar to my experience in Tassie a few months ago when I dropped my KP with DA 20-40 Limited attached onto the floor. The camera was OK but the lens wasn't, so all I had left was a DA 55 - 300. Fortunately I was able to order a 16-85 and have it delivered in less than 48 hours (I had the DA 20 - 40 repaired when I got home).

The one thing I've decided to do on all future holidays is pack my K30 and 18- 135 in my case (all other gear goes as hand luggage) so that if anything happens to a camera or lens then I've got a backup option.

Change of Ebay Policy

I'm now a victim of the new Ebay system. I've been selling multiples of the same items and the new Ebay list of transactions makes it almost impossible to keep track what items you've been paid for and what charges have been made for postage etc because they list things separately rather than a total sale price minus x for fees, minus x for postage etc equals the final amount as a single entry.

I've spent a fruitless half hour on the chat line with them and all I got were robo-answers and platitudes and pleas to be patient with them while they refine the system. Bottom line is that the Ebay payments system will be the only one you can use from now on, no more Paypal option because I asked how I could revert back to Paypal and was told it was no longer available.

I'm really peeved because I have a load of cycling gear to try and sell and there's really no alternative with the reach of Ebay :mad:

I mentioned this in the other thread but I'll start this one to maximise the chances of people seeing it. There's now a 20% discount on DCXperts Ebay site up to a maximum of $300. The code is PFYS20. It applies to the K3iii and Pentax lenses but that's as far as I looked so I don't know if it is valid for everything on the site.

My credit card is too full to take advantage of it but hopefully a few people can get that K3iii they've had their eyes on.

What a cracking post and some great images there. Cairns to Melbourne is quite the road trip !! I'm now at an age (and also the type of person) where I don't care what other people think and I actually think of being a Pentax user as something of a badge of honour....who wants to be a sheep?

I love my K-1 and can't imagine parting with it....it's an amazing camera.

And the answer to my original question is.........................the inspection fee gets deducted from the quote. I've just picked the lens up so with a bit of luck I'll get a chance to do a test drive later today. All up the repair cost me $215 so I'm a happy bunny.

I got a call from CRK on Friday and my DA 20 - 40 is fixed and I'll pick it up on Tuesday. I paid the inspection fee when I left it with them and they have given me a separate quote. Based on the experience of anyone else that has used CRK for repairs - do they deduct the inspection fee from that quoted figure or are they separate charges?

Wow.....that's the equivalent of 132 shots a day  I'm curious what you shoot to clock up that number of actuations - only if you care to share of course. But I agree with Jatrax that you're going to get better value by looking for a second-hand one.

Wow Mike, that does sound like a saga. At least HP came to the party (eventually). Dell hung me out to dry and wouldn't budge and did everything they could to avoid their obligations under The Trade Practices Act. Consequently I'll never buy another Dell product for as long as I breathe.

PS. Good to see you back Mike.

I'd agree that the price was a bit on the high side but as the OP has already bought it, it's a moot point.
