Pentax K-1ii VS Sony A7iii (Am I switching to the dark side?)

And often they don't try to control weight through lenses.
IMO it's more about listening to marketing, and finding excuses to buy - rather than addressing a real need. And now marketing is changing, see the "lightweight" 0.5kg lens ;)

Of course, there are always exceptions. My idea of "small and light" is something like the GR III, though.

Amazing how the K-1's image quality is still competitive, don't you think?

What you don't see is that with Pentax it's consistent. Pentax is always doomed, Pentax can't focus on static subjects, Pentax has the failed strategy because all cameras must be of the same type. Or they simply don't exist.
Well, guys like The PhotographyApparatusSettlement briefly try to promote Pentax, hoping they'd make money out of it and be promoted to Ambassadors; when they fail, they start bashing hard, in revenge.
I hope Ricoh Imaging will manage to improve that, through visibility. It won't be easy.

Unfortunately, amateur videos made out of passion - like this one - aren't terribly well made and informative. It's logical, as one needs to gain experience at it.
Like you, I can't figure out the performance from it.

Still lenient. "Comes up a little short" vs. "WaterFAILS" lenient.

This patent seems related to the new RGBIr metering sensor:
??2021-5762 | ???????IP Force?

Not very interesting I guess, at a glance they were trying to reduce the cost for such a sensor.

They are doing some advertising; even our tiny local dealer had adds in magazines and whatever. Nobody noticed.
Reviews are not advertising. If they were, they'd be useless.

We can safely assume the K-3 III won't be inferior to the GR III.

What a load of... nonsense.
Assuming the price is true, you wouldn't pay that for a Pentax but would gladly pay for a $1700 Fujifilm. Then, you build a fake explanation about why it is so.
You know nothing about the K-3 III's image quality. You know nothing about the K-3 III's capabilities except for a specs list (if you know that).
You say that recommending Pentax is "dirty work" - but you basically recommend Fuji instead, and that's fine.
You say Pentax is a "dying brand", and that's pure BS.
Your history with Pentax doesn't matter. What matters is the anti-Pentax nonsense you're posting now.

That's incorrect - not instead, but in addition to.
It works smoothly with the GR III. Both ways.

Through WiFi, with the Image Sync app.

Sigh... non-issue after non-issue. You can see for yourself that all the expected physical buttons are there, on the K-3 III (and there's the addition of a joystick).

I can fully control the GR III via its buttons. I can ignore the touchscreen or disable it from the menus, and I won't lose any functionality (just a bit of obvious convenience, like tap to focus or double tap to zoom to 100% in play mode).
The K-3 Mark III, a rugged, weather sealed camera, is similarly fully usable via its many hardware controls.

I very much doubt that.
Perhaps the impact would be negligible, but the Ricoh GR line already had a following - and the GR and GR II were quite successful (unlike the very similar Nikon Coolpix A, and that says something!). Not rebranding them to Pentax was the correct choice.
Then, we know the GR III is successful; what do you have to show that a Pentax GR III would be even more successful?
Last but not least... Pentax GR? Is that a Pentax, or a GR? Confusing...

I see here two different general decisions; one not actually being much of a choice:
- if to go mirrorless or stay DSLR (no resources for both, apparently); we know what they decided, and IMO it was mostly based on their (in)ability to compete on an overcrowded, overcompetitive mirrorless market while trying to recover a technical disadvantage.
- to update their technology to more or less current levels, instead of improving on what they already had. They did that for the GR III, too.

By "normally" I assume you mean iterating from existing technology, as opposed to developing a completely new product.
Because I don't think there was anything abnormal with the development time. Perhaps they could have started earlier - and that could have avoided the release gap; I suspect Ricoh's own issues delayed things a bit. But I doubt they could have hasten the development time.

Skyrim - an open world RPG which I like even though I didn't finished playing - is said to have been plagued with bugs at release. I started playing it later, and it was fine.
For non-gamers, Skyrim is one of the most successful games around.

Getting back to Pentax, yeah, they'll try to fill the Cons list the best they could - and the "tests" would be designed to make the camera fail.
It won't be difficult. The camera can't possibly be perfect; then it already "loses" the specs game in some areas, compared with . But if they find a "fault", let's say... Adobe not properly supporting the files... ;)

L.E. Speaking of which, I've just read how 524g for a lens is "lightweight". But it had the right brand ;)

Yes, the slow releases in the last years is a big problem, as it pushed people's patience to the limit.
My guess is they decided to jump on a new generation platform - hardware and software, and releasing new old-tech camera would have slowed that down.

There are bugs and issues, the kind you'd have with any product; and then there's releasing an incomplete product. The Z7, of course, was no Cyberpunk 2077.
But I agree with you that folks are more lenient with other brands.

The game industry is a bit special, in that the launch date is usually firmly set by marketing - and the poor devs have to make it happen. While Cyberpunk 2077 was allegedly (didn't try it) particularly bad, I wonder if there are any AAA games which are released in a "final" form.

But that doesn't have anything to do with Pentax.
