PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM Asking Price
375.00 USD Item Location
Antwerp (Belgium) Item Description
Excellent copy of Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM for Pentax APS-C.
The only reason I'm not listing it as Mint is a blemish on the barrel.
Glass is in mint condition.
Includes original pouch and lens caps.
I'm selling because 8-16 is too wide for my use. I kept it for lack of a better APS-C UWA zoom until I purchased Pentax's 11-18/2.8 recently, which is a better range for my personal use. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

My current favourite lens is the K50/1.2. Easy to see why I would love this feature. Curious to see what other new undetected features the K-3III holds... It is getting easier and easier to get over losing GPS...

They probably will, but that's not a solution for Astrotracing.

As I wrote elsewhere it works between my GR III and my phone (Google Pixel XL 1st gen), but only for the first sequence of shots following the establishment of the connection between the app and the camera. I did set things up to keep the connection going, but still found out it's lost easily. I really don't want to take out my phone and so to speak reinitiate the connection before every shot, so I stopped trying to after half a dozen attempts.
Note that I'm not passing judgement on Ricoh or the GR III. I'm fully aware that my phone is not the most recent one (though updated to the last but one Android version), and as such might be the weak link rather than the camera...

Just received the following mail from the organisers of Photokina. Seems there won't be any Photokinas anymore...

Shame about the GPS... I was still hoping.
I agree about that the Astrotracer is not much extra bulk on top of a tripod, but it's a shame that extra cost is required to replace a function that the K-3II had built-in.
I do use GPS a lot for GPS tagging my shots. There are many applications for this: to know where in a national park I encountered which animals (scientific curiosity), to identify photographed monuments/streets/churches on a historic city walk, to reconstruct a map of a hike though the mountains (and the mountains on my shots), ...
Connecting to a phone might work in theory, but I found with my GR III it is far from perfect. Perhaps it's my phone (a first generation Google Pixel XL), but the connection between the phone and the GRIII is very unstable and most of the time it's lost after the first sequence of shots, requiring establishing the connection time and time again (even with the setting to maintain the Bluetooth connection). Not something I want to do in the field... In practice, my current setup with the GR III (paired with my Google Pixel XL) simply doesn't do the job, whereas my K-3II's with their built-in GPS are perfect.
I'll survive, and if the other new features are sufficient added value, I'll upgrade for sure. But I'll miss GPS much more than I would some other features (like built-in flash ;)).

Indeed, but it will attach to the same universal USB charger that I already have in my bag for the GRIII charger, the Theta Z1, phones, eReaders, ... I expect I'm not alone in this?

From the looks of the pictures, the new charger looks a bit thinner, but it's hard to tell. Has anyone seen the dimensions posted somewhere? ---------- Post added 23-11-20 at 11:02 ----------
Replying to my own post... :o
Just found this image which says it all:
Conclusion: not only one cable less, also some volume less. Perfect for travel. Even if I decide not to go for the K-3III, I'll probably get this one ASAP once travel is allowed again...

The only recent and as such comparable DA* is the DA*11-18/2.8, which is excellent and unquestionably worthy of the star designation. It is many leagues ahead of the original DA*16-50/2.8, both in terms of IQ and build quality. I only hope they keep the same 77mm filter size...

Could be Ricoh is going for the same approach as for the GR III? The GR III allows charging through USB, so you can do without a dedicated charger and use any regular USB-C charger like the one for your phone. Unfortunately that means the dedicated charger is no longer included in the box and needs to be purchased as an accessory, which I did. Being able to charge a spare battery while being out taking pictures at the same time is important to me.
Except for the dedicated charger needing to be purchased separately, I like this evolution. It allows for more compact setup (fewer cables and power connectors), and also increases independence from the power net in the field, as it allows charging batteries from a power bank. Actually, I had been hoping for a USB-C compatible charger for my D-LI90 batteries, so I hope this turns out to be the case.

Great!! Finally got round to setting up my GR III to get location information from my smartphone. I always forgot, and dearly missed it when uploading my images. I am in the habit of using location information to group images from multiday trips, and it's a bummer when the images taken with the GR III are the only ones that don't have that info tagged. My other cameras (K3-II, Theta Z (through the phone) and Pixel phone) all log GPS coordinates.
Anyway, I don't know what didn't work before, but it sure does now.
BTW, the Touch AF Full Press Snap, great as it is as an option, is not for me. My perfect setup is in Snap Mode as a default (pressing Up + front dial to change the focus distance), and I use Touch AF to achieve accurate focus when required.

LOL, I have all of those... :D:o Cost isn't a big deal for me (good job and no kids).
I just prefer primes to zooms. Don't get me wrong, I love the DA20-40 and use it much more than the DA21 because of the IQ, but I miss the limitation of the DA21 and the creativity that limitation forces me into. I just get better results. On top of that 21mm is a great FOV for my style... The DFA21 can the best of both worlds for me... But I understand that might sound weird... :o

Well, for me it *will* replace my DA21/3.2 on my APS-C. :) OTOH I would find it too wide on a K-1... Long live differences of opinion!

Indeed, and when asked whether it would be possible to release the lens at the same time as the APS-C flagship end 2020, the reply was a hesitating "we are trying our best to have it sooner"...

Same front element size as the FA31/1.8 it would seem. At 21mm that would mean f/2.8 at most IMHO.

The date for the DFA21 was announced as 2021 in the video. They did explicitly make release dates an important point. With explicit questions related to the possibility of the dates and the answers each time confirming being on schedule. So perhaps they are trying to show commitment to these dates to indicate a change of planning policy?

I love what the new optical viewfinder promises!! I currently have viewfinder loupes on both my K-3II's, so perhaps I could do without on this one? Or have an even bigger VF with the loupe...
Great about the AF point selector, esp its presence on the grip as well. My small hands will appreciate!!
The eye sensor is not so useful for me since I shut off the LCD screen much of the time anyway. Perhaps this will help me appreciate the LCD screen for changing settings a bit more? I'll give it a go and see what gives, once I get the camera.
I'm sure more features will be announced prior to release. They need to have something to talk about or to attract attention in upcoming announcements...
PS: I'm in the camp that doesn't care too much about articulating screens and doesn't care at all about video.

Nice complement to the 31, 43 and 77. Esp for APS-C shooters. On the K-1 (which I don't have) it would be too wide for me I think. I'm inclined to get this one to fill out my FA series, despite already having the DA21/3.2. I suspect the DFA21/4 will be considerably better optically than the tiny DA21/3.2, which I always liked for its field-of-view on APS-C, but I never warmed to its IQ. Actually, the DA20-40 has completely taken over the DA21's place in my limited kit (not so the FA limiteds though).

I'm still very happy about my first batch DA*50-135/2.8, but the DA*16-50/2.8 is another thing. Both have suffered a lot by my abuse, and have been serviced twice, and finally had their SDM hacked to become screw drive AF lenses. But on top of that, the 16-50's optics have somewhat degraded by being bumped into various hard objects during my hikes. Either that, or the newer high res cameras have exposed some of its shortcomings... probably a bit of both...
Anyway, the new DA*16-50/2.8 is high on my list now... The quality of the DA*11-18/2.8 gives me high expectations for this one as well...

Got the mail as well...
Seems only normal in the current situation. Even in the most optimistic scenario, i.e. that the peak would have passed by May, it would still not seem a good idea to get people from all over the world together so soon after when some of it may still be hanging around.
Back to the 2-year schedule again indeed (in reality they never got the yearly schedule launched), and some time to reflect as they say. I do hope they can come up with a concept that can attract most players in the industry. I've always enjoyed my Photokina visits a lot!!
All the best to them!

The Photokina people must be rubbing their hands. Their first annual show since stopping the bi-annual rhythm and cancelling the 2019 show because too close to the 2018 one, will unexpectedly be the first big show of the year. However, I don't think/hope any off the announcements foreseen to coincide with CP+ will shift to the Photokina timeframe...
Shame for CP+ though.
