After buying the K-1, I will not buy another Pentax body unless they finally fix their awful video. It's absurd that my Android phone does a much better job producing videos than a $1500 Pentax camera. Maybe the new body will finally bring Pentax video into the year 2005.

I converted my almost new FA 16-50 to screw drive, and love it. No more SDM worries, and focusing is great. If you have one of these, go ahead and convert it and then you can forget it ever failing.

As a long time Pentax user, I'm getting pretty frustrated.
Pentax needs to get off their ass and:
- improve their video and stabilization to equal my Samsung 3 year old cell phone
- incorporate AI into their chip like Google and Apple so night pics, etc. look awesome. Why do DSLRs, with the better and larger sensors, not using AI?????????? Utter stupidity IMO.

I love my K-01s. I shoot with my K-1 also, but the K-01 sensor is awesome and the K-01 is more fun to shoot with. Pentax should update the K-01 with the KP sensor and software, improve the rear screen for sunlight, and add manual SR for video....it would sell like crazy. They already paid for much of the tooling and mirrorless makes a lot of sense. Others must agree as the used prices are higher than what I paid for the K-01 brand new! Wake up pentax!

The reason I have not bought this lens, is....what is the point in carrying a large, heavy 2.8 lens if it's not that great at 2.8?

I love the K-01. I have shot some fantastic pics with it that rival the pics I have shot with my K-1. Great sensor and compact body.

I have recently purchased the Pentax 15-30 for my K-1. Overall, a very sharp lens. However, I have noticed that occasionally, it will completely misfocus. Seems like more at 2.8 or 4.0. I have been testing it extensively vs my 31 Ltd, 20 FA, and other lenses and they have never missed a focus on identical scenes.
Do any other Pentax 15-30 owners have this issue? FYI, I checked the lens AF adjustment setting on the K-1 and it seems OK.

Mee, you don't even own the Sigma 18-300 lens so your opinion is worthless. These pics were FULL CROP SIZE 15mb from a K-1, but the website only uploads the compressed versions as you should know. Duh. Even these compressed photos show how well the Sigma 18-300 performed at 300, not equal to but darn close to the Pentax 60-250. This is clearly visible and is FACT. So you can blither on forever, but I have presented the real facts with the real lenses. I like all my Pentax lenses, including the 60-250, but you should not talk about "soft" lenses when you haven't even shot with them.

mee, your comments are disinformation because you do not own and/or have tested the lenses you are talking about. That is why I had to post a comment in disagreement. To say that the Sigma 18-300 is "very soft" at the long end is absurd and not true.
Below are three identical pics, from a K-1 on a tripod in crop mode of course. Try to guess the lenses, all at 5.6 or 6.3. ---------- Post added 12-14-16 at 02:05 PM ---------- Here is the answer:
First pic, Sigma 18-300 at it's extreme....300 f6.3. Really nice performance.
Second pic, Sigma 18-250 Macro at 250, f6.3. The new Sigma 18-300 really improved over this in the 200-300 range.
Third pic, Pentax 60-250 at 250, 5.6. Yes, it's a great lens and is faster. Is a bit sharper of course with a bit more contrast, but the difference between this lens and the Sigma 18-300 is not as great as people think. And to call the Sigma 18-300 "very soft" at the long end is, of course, absolutely NOT TRUE.

The Sigma 18-300 is a very sharp lens, and the above comments suggesting otherwise are really not accurate. I have tested the Sigma 18-300 versus many lenses at most settings, including the Pentax 16-85 & 60-250*. It performs surprisingly well against these lenses. For example, at 250, it's almost as sharp as the Pentax 60-250 when examining test pics at very high magnifications. Of course, you have to shoot 6.3 or above vs 4.0 for the Pentax. But this is a pretty darn good performance. The Sigma 18-300 has a very sophisticated optical formula, and it's biggest improvement in sharpness (vs the Sigma 18-250 Macro) is in the 200-300 range. The truth is, these latest superzooms have reached the point where they perform shockingly good for such a versatile lens. Frankly, I was surprised how good when I performed many comparison tests, as I was skeptical like everyone else.
Regarding the Pentax 16-85, it is a pretty good lens, but it's not nearly as good as the new Pentax DFA 28-105 IMO (which I love on my K-1). For full frame, the Pentax 28-105 DFA is a real winner. And FYI, I did not keep my copies of the Pentax 16-85.

I have new copies of both lenses. The Pentax 24-90 is a good, solid lens optically. Very plastic build, however. But the new DFA 28-105 is sharper in the corners and built better, and is a little heavier. The Pentax 28-105 DFA is one of the best Pentax zoom lenses I have ever tested, and well worth it's price. Just awesome. I prefer it to the DFA 24-70 due to it's smaller size and weight.

Tamron made a great 24-135/4-5.6, which I have. Excellent performance and very compact, just a bit wider than the excellent Pentax 28-105 DFA. With updated lens elements Pentax should just rebadge this lens, which would sell like crazy. I'm glad I bought my Tamron a long time ago and kept it. It has identical optical performance to the D-FA between 40 and 105, with weaker extreme edges 28 to 35 at 4.0 and under.

Hi. I would like to use a pinch lens cap on my new 31 Ltd lens, instead of the metal slip-on lens cap that comes with it.
I have a new style Pentax 58mm lens cap, which seems to fit perfectly without touching the lens glass itself. But it looks like a pretty close fit to the glass.
Does anyone else use the latest Pentax 58mm cap on their 31, and is it safe.....ie cannot touch the glass?
Please inform. Thanks!

I bought some 20/2.8 FAs brand new, and they are a favorite lens on my K-1. Extremely compact and extremely sharp.
A perfect combo for the K-1 so I expect few want to sell them.

Can someone with the lenses below, measure the outside diameter of the lens hoods? Thanks.
15-30 DFA
24-70 DFA
28-105 DFA
70-200 DFA
150-450 DFA
I know the diameter of the lenses, but not the hoods....which take up a lot of space when carrying. Thanks.

The Pentax 28-105 FF is very nice but I really need a 24 at the wide end. And I don't need 2.8 with the K-1s great ISO range. 24-105/4 or 24-135 would be great. By the way, I have a Tamron 24-135 which does very well on the K-1. It's really a great lens as well.

These two lenses really need to be made in the Pentax K-Mount. Let's write some letters to Sigma and Tamron.
Sigma 24-105/4 full frame
Tamron 16-300 crop (or Pentax make this a rebadge like the 18-270?)

I just got my Pentax K-1, and I notice that the selected autofocus points in the viewfinder are highlighted slightly in black, and with my glasses are pretty hard to see. Can these focus points show up red as in other Pentax bodies, so they are easier to see especially in daylight shooting? Help!
