He's not insane for having 1000 cameras. He's insane for thinking they're worth 50 grand.

I had noticeable CA and flare on exactly one photo that I took with my DA*16-50 when I had it. For a lens with such a huge front element, it's remarkably good on flare, if you ask me. Use the hood, don't use a UV filter (the hood is sturdy enough to protect it), and don't shoot into the sun. You'll be fine.

I went to D.C. for a day on Friday, and despite having a massive creative block and not getting many good shots, managed to come up with one fairly decent one. At least I think so... |

Anyone know? I will soon be in a position to rebuild my lens collection and this might be a good option for me if the price is going to be as low as I've heard.

The 40mm XS works and fits on regular bodies? I thought it extended into the body and wouldn't work on film and regular DSLRs?

My photography class did a shoot last weekend for a local filmmaker that took the class a few years back. He needed some publicity shots and stills for the credits of the movie. Part of the story is a wedding, so everyone came dressed for that. |

In RAW, the sensor still records the extended range, you just have to dig it back out of the blown out parts in your RAW processing.

The only thing I have to add is that you'll be amazed how much better the K-5 is than the D90.
And the closest thing to an AE1 for Pentax is the Super Program, as has been mentioned. All of the other suggestions are much better (and much more expensive) cameras. The question I have, though, is why would you want an automatic film camera? Isn't the whole idea of shooting film to go back to the basics? You might as well shoot digital if you want the camera doing the work. I'd get a K1000 or Spotmatic if I were going to shoot film. As it is, my film bodies are just for show.

You could wipe your gear down with a disinfectant wipe, but it's 10 times more likely that you got the germs from money.

The tattoo makes it more interesting than most shots like that, and technically it's a very good photo. As long as you're not doing the "hands making a heart over the exposed belly" shot, I think you're doing fine. I think they're all good photos.

Not a fan of the exposed belly pregnancy shots, but numbers 5, 7 and 8 are very good.

I used a Nikon D300s today for a shoot, and it had a lot harder time focusing than my K-5 did in the exact same situation. I like how the D300s feels, but it's not as good a camera as the K-5. Unless you can afford a D700 or higher, the K-5 is going to be better. I suspect if you're using an old F 35-70 lens, that upgrading to a newer/better lens would also help.

I seem to remember there being a thread where this problem (which is common with the K-5) was attributed to lack of use. Spinning the dial non-stop for a couple of minutes fixed the problem, if my memory serves be right. Using the dial from time to time prevented the problem from coming back.

Shutter counts of somewhere around 10 or so seem to also be common. I think mine had 1 or 2 snaps on it. If you paid for a new camera it shouldn't have more than a few. 3000 is beyond unacceptable.

My DA* 55 and K-5 decided to do the old aperture jumping deal to me one night when I was shooting, and this is the result of one of the photos. While not intended, I find it interesting. Am I crazy? |

I never knew 4chan had a Photo board. I also didn't know that so many 18 year old sociopaths (typical 4chan users) were Canon users.

Your photos will gain more in quality from a K20D to K-5 upgrade than they would from your current lenses to a FA31. The low light capability alone is enough to make the choice for you.
And ignore posts talking about future value. This isn't an "investment". The bottom could drop out of the full frame K mount lens market tomorrow. (Probably won't but anything is possible.) You spend money on equipment to take better photos. If you have limited money, you spend that money on what would be the biggest improvement in image quality, not what someone might pay you for the equipment 5 years from now. I've had to sell a lot of amazing lenses in the past month or so. I know how hard you can get burned if you think in terms of future value.

My middle school had a camera club, and I always liked gadgets so I bothered my parents until they bought me a K-1000 at Montgomery Wards. Since then, every "real" camera I've ever had was a Pentax.

A few tiny adjustments, maybe a couple points of vibrance and some contrast, and the original would be perfect. HDR is very hard to do right and not necessary 99% of the time.
