Jim, Thank you for your reply. I remembered that I had taken some pictures at school recently with the Sony as well. I looked at them tonight and see that they are fine. So, you are right. It must just be a blurry photo! Sorry to bother you! Thanks again, Susan

Monitor Settings & picture resolution

Hi,

I have a Sony point and shoot camera with 7.2 pixels. My friend borrowed it to take some pictures of her class. I recently bought a new wide screen monitor. I am noticing that when I use Photoshop or any other picture processing software, her pictures of the kids look blurry or have poor resolution. I checked the settings on the camera, they look fine. I have always had good results with it in the past. I haven't though, taken any pictures with it since getting my Pentax. When I work on pictures from my K20D, I don't have that problem.

If I make the monitor settings lower, they show up looking in focus, when I look at them through the Picture Manager (Windows). However, in Print Shop they still look blurry. Should I change a setting in Photoshop? Please note: I'm a newbie!

I'm sorry if this is a repeat question, I did do a search.
Thanks! Susan

Ryan, I'm in the same boat! I bought a book by Martin Evening, but it was too complicated. I just bought Photoshop Artistry: For Photographers Using CS2 and Beyond, written by Barry Haynes & Wendy Crumpler. It has a cd that comes with it. You work with the cd to practice different techniques. I'm only on Chapter 5, but I've learned a lot in just a few days. I think it is easy to follow and very well done. You can get it used on Amazon for $25.00. I hope this helps! Susan

I took a couple of pictures today in PEF and DNG. I used the converter (which I downloaded from Adobe, it is not a plug in or anything on Photoshop 7.0). Both files were converted to dng files, but Photoshop 7.0 did not recognize the files. I also tried opening the dng from my SanDisk directly in PS, but that didn't work either. I did notice, however, that PS 7.0 looks like it will open .raw files. Here is my question....could I use say RawTherapee to open the dng files from my SanDisk and then save them as raw files, which might allow me to work on them using photoshop? Thanks! Susan

Would I just open up the DNG Converter and bring the files from my memory card into the converter to compress them?

Thanks so much for helping me make a decision today. I bought the Super Tak 105. I held it up to my magnifying light and you can barely see the marks. I posted a picture of the Carlsbad flower fields on the Pentaxian Day thread that I took with it.
Thanks to all who took time to help me! Susan

Hi,

I have an opportunity to buy a Super Tak 105mm lens TODAY! After asking about the condition of the lens, I got this reply "The 105mm has seen some use, cosmetically is fine, I do notice some light scratches on the front element when I put it up to the light. Most comments I've seen online is that front element doesn't affect image quality much. "

I'm a newbie, so would appreciate your advice. I can buy it for $50.00. I have to decided today as he happens to be traveling to my area today.

Thanks in advance!!
Susan

Is there a third party brand list somewhere of m42 lenses that are compatible with the k20d? I see some of these lenses from time to time online, but am weary of purchasing them.
Thanks for your help! Susan

Hi Virgilr,

Thanks so much for the information on the manual lenses! I did have one from my old ME Super. Also, I just bought a couple of Takumars. So, I'm excited to get out and try to use them. I've been reading up on a lot of tips here for using them. Plus, I've seen some of the great pictures that people have shared!

Thank you for the tip on the diopter. I plan to go out later today and use your focussing tip!

Thank you for taking the time to help me out! Susan

K100D -- Thank you for the informaiton on my lens! It isn't an XR model. It says
"Tamron AF Aspherical LD (IF) 28-200mm" on the lens. You helped calm
my fears about mounting it on my k20d!

Virgilr -- Those are such great shots!! The colors came out beautifully. I loved the
ironwork pictures.

You both encouraged me to get out and try the lens today. I had a hard time getting it in focus. I do wear contacts, so maybe it is me. I probably just need to play with it more. I did get a couple of decent shots. See below.
Thanks again! Susan
