Thanks for the links. I've used the "Leica" hold on my MX for the last 30+ years, but I've found the grip that's built into some of the DSLR's I've used to be nice and always wondered what it might be like on the MX. I hardly ever use the DOF lever on my MX.

Were there any aftermarket grips made for the MX? I don't have use for the motordrive w/grip and was wondering if there was ever one made with just a plate for the bottom and the grip?

Of course. But it's a quick check to see if it's close. I tried it with the same lens on 3 different Pentax SLR's (MX, ME Super, K1000), Nikon D200 and D40, and against my Luna Pro SBC and they all matched each other except the ME. It needed the ISO cut in half which was exactly what I was seeing on the negatives. Of course this was incident reading. They all are close enough with reflective now as well for film. The DSLR meters in matrix mode match my film cameras fwiw.

One of a few I took at a local car show with the ME Super and a 28mm SMC Takumar. I especially liked the porta-johns in the background

Here's a few more of the train. These were taken with my Yashica-Mat, Acros, and developed in Rodinal. I had to prop the camera up on little ledge with my wallet underneath it to get the cabin shot (f/5.6, 1/4sec). I need to go back and try some more on that shot with different framing (bring it down some to get the little sign on the right). The lighting was way harsh outside at 1pm :) This is off my second roll of MF film ever and I'm still trying to figure this scanning stuff out. |

First roll through the ME Super. Meter seemed to be underexposing everything on this roll and another, but I was able to salvage a few shots.

Thanks. I just wasn't sure about the length of the 58mm hoods on the small prime lenses.

I have a stack of filters that I inherited years ago from my Grandfather. They all fit a 58mm thread, so I've bought a step up ring for my lenses (which are all 49mm - 50/1.7, 50/2, 28/3.5, 135/3.5) to use a few of them, but mainly the yellow since I've been shooting b&w through my ME Super and MX. Would anyone have a suggestion on a hood that I could use with the 50/1.7 and 28/3.5 lenses, preferably metal? I have the stock Takumar circular hood for the 135/3.5 . A circular hood would be nice as I occasionally use a polarizer and it seems that the square ones might cause some vignetting with the hood turning as the filter turns. I can find the Pentax hoods or equivalents for the 49mm threads, but don't know how long of a hood I could get away with using a 58mm threaded one and the shorter primes.

This is an interesting topic. I can't wear contacts anymore. Well, that's not true, I just can't afford the ones that work for me. I only get 20/40 out of my good eye with glasses, so focusing has been a real PITA for the last year. Nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other isn't helping either. I've been wondering if an adapter for my MX and MESuper would at least help with the split ring focusing?

Since I just got the light seals replaced on my ME Super this weekend I haven't taken any recent shots with it. In fact, these were only a few of the ones (prints) I could find that I have taken with it. Both of these are from around 1980-81, when I was 10-11 years old. Used my Grandfather's darkroom. Most likely Tri-X. Scanning is horrible. A new negative scanner as well as film developing gear is on the "to buy" list. |

He's evidently no longer selling on ebay. Tired of the BS that you have to deal with I guess. I just emailed him and he got back to me that day.

I have some seals for my ME Super on their way from Mr. Goodman. The door seals are completely gone, but the mirror bumper is still good. I'll most likely change it out just so it won't become a problem in the near future.

Thank you. I've been in a situation to basically make due with what I've got (D40, kit 55mm, no tripod yet) and my location (TX panhandle) which is possibly the farthest from 98% of anything interesting to photograph. I've been reluctant to buy any more glass for the D40 as if I upgrade I'm not sure that's the path I want to take yet. I mainly am interested in close-up and landscape and zero interested in portraits at this point in my life. I like to get out when I can and be alone to decompress from life.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The D40 might have been the low end on Nikon's scale, but I've taken some nice photo's with it over the years, mainly with the cheap little 55mm kit lens. Here's a link to my tiny website with pics on it, and they are very amateur, but I don't think they are completely bad by any means. S. Moore Photography |

Hi everyone. I currently shoot a Nikon D40 that I've had for 5 years or so, but I have a bag full of glass from when I used to shoot film with my MESuper (nothing expensive or special, but decent enough quality). I'd really like to be able to use the glass so I've recently been thinking about getting a second body to do that. I really like the D40, and in fact have used most of the Nikons up to a D300 and haven't found anything that really takes better photos from them till I got to the D300. What I'd like to find is an older Pentax that is comparable photo quality wise to the D40 that I can use my old lenses with and won't cost me an arm and a leg. FWIW, I've used some of the newer Pentax cameras and they are a treat with outstanding quality and will be high on my list as I upgrade, but for now it's just not in the budget.
Thanks..........

Hi everyone. I've not purchased any Pentax DSLR's, but have used several of the family members and they are nice cameras. I joined the forum to get ideas about using the bag full of glass I have from my old MESuper days.
