Wide-angle lenses which are well corrected for coma

The DA 14 2.8 has noticeable coma. I suspect the best Pentax lens will be the DA 11-18 since it is set up to use a defogging heater for astrophotography. If they did that then they must have tried to optimize the coma.

Is it the camera settings, the lens or the idiot holding the camera?

Were you using a tripod? If you were, then turn the shake reduction off.

On the wider end you can't go wrong with the 16-85 as a great general purpose lens. If you need to go wider (I certainly think you should try something wider) then consider the DA 15, or DA 14 (my preference), or 12-24, or 11-18. All are very good lenses with different sizes, prices, and strengths. If you do some astro then the 11-18 is likely the best option.

Take a look at the lens reviews on this forum. They list it there. They are very rare in the M42 mount and are highly rated by the users. I've been wanting to buy one but haven't found one yet.

The optical limits tests are on completely different bodies so you can't compare results. DxOMark test are also useless unless you're comparing lenses on the same bodies. Unfortunately DXO isn't very clear about this and will give a lens a very low rating simply because it was tested on a low resolution body.

Live view with focus peaking to get the initial shot, then bracket a couple of shots on either side of that. The focus confirmation beep isn't, particularly reliable, particularly with the lens wide open.

I think the DA14 2.8 is a fantastic lens, and the sharpness of mine is very good, but it does suffer from coma. Rokinon makes some fine astro lenses with no coma, but of course they are not autofocus.

You lucked out with that one! Yes, the 55mm f2.2 is the correct lens. Both the lens and the camera are quite rare. I have the same setup, but the seller never sent me the case.

Nice colors, peaceful feeling. I would try cropping the right side so the edge is partway into the tree trunk. I find the gap a little distracting - but it may be better as-is. Nice work!

If Pentax would be discontinued, would prices go up or down?

I'm guessing prices for new stock would initially go down as retailers try to get rid of remaining stock. Then prices would start to climb again.

There are lots of autofocus 70-210 lenses around. The F 70-210 gets good reviews. Bigger and heavier than the 135mm f2.8, but much cheaper and longer reach.

Looks like the infrared mark is in the wrong position. Should be to the right of the 4.
