Nice image. But i feel your pain. I wasn't dead yet, so i did not submit a shot. I totally misunderstood that it wasn't my life that was supposed to be stilled. :)

Horsetail Falls - 2008

Horsetail falls catches the sunset like this about the middle of February every year - as long as there is water and the clouds break at sunset. A spectacular sight. What is most remarkable about this is the angle of the shot - not from the Yosemite valley floor but from the ridgeline. That took some effort to get that angle. Hiking to get the shot is worth the nomination all by itself!

300mm plus Lens Club: discuss your long lenses

I've figured out my A400 doesn't focus well near infinity and beyond. The barrel is tight, too - I should be able to get it fixed somewhere.

Nonetheless, I think these are pics of a Northern harrier near a local reservoir - very far away (over half a mile) Or are they an osprey? I'd crop more, but it doesn't add to clarity. Last one is a red Diamond, though....

After you get your new camera out of the box, the battery all charged up, and a favorite lens attached, go shoot a bunch of pictures. Then, after several days of shooting come back and read the manual. The information in the manual will make much more sense. Six months later, read the manual again. You'll now be closer to understanding the value and use of all the bells and whistles the Pentax engineers included in your amazing camera.

Heh, I'll copy paste from a list that I send to my friends visiting for the first time.

Good thing he cut and pasted....

Nice list. There are some worthwhile adds, though

Gas lamp is generally overpriced - but Blue Point Coastal Cuisine (seafood) is very good.
Little Italy also has Buon Appetito - much better value I think (unless you do breakfast at Davanti Enoteca with their bloody mary bar) - It is next door to Davanti. Little Italy also has the Queenstown Public House - a New Zealand food place. And really inexpensive but good Italian fast food is Pappalecco.
For breakfast you could also try the Hash House A Go Go in Hillcrest - you'll be full all day.
And if you must have a dessert, then Extraordinary Desserts will knock your socks off - there are now two locations, too.

On the to do list you can add Cabrillo National Monument - great views of the city - just a couple bucks to get in.
If you have the time the deep sea fishing is outstanding right now - El Nino has brought warm water north and big fish are much closer to SD than they have been in many years.
And if you are here to photograph then Scripps Pier at La Jolla cove is a great sunset location.

Killing it now. The app could sure work better (faster, more intuitively), but I really do like the K-s2. It is a nice lightweight alternative to the K-3.

Thank you again for all the coaching on this.

Actually, the attraction of a second body is so I can avoid switching out the lenses - especially when in a not so clean environment. And it always takes so long to reload the film!

3 legged thing tripods

If you are in the market for 3 legged thing tripods, they have lowered the price of most of them - B&H has the Eddie with airhead for $500, the Brian for $390.15 Brian | B&H Photo Video

The Brian was about $40 less at BF but these are still good deals. I ended up with the Brian after BF and think it is pretty nice.

Deserve a lens?
Not a chance!
For a chance is all anyone “deserves”.
But with a new prime, one must take his time,
foot zooming to frame it just so.
Composing the scene, the photo is the thing.
Capturing a smile, a tear, a wrinkle, a nod.
The depth and shadows of light – just right.
A fraction of a second, the image is seized,
a moment can now be retrieved!
What are the stories the lens will have told,
when it’s no longer in its prime?
“He took a chance, and images preserved are all he deserved on this dime.”

The photo is of friends and parents of the groom (oldest and only son) - my 3rd day using new camera. Rooftop wedding was moved into bank vault in basement due to foul weather. Low ceiling with hot spot lighting made it tricky. This was shot from 4 rows back and also represents first efforts with some post processing to balance the lighting....
