I totally agree. I also use the Sunny 16 Rule most of the time nowadays, even with my automatic exposure lenses. I find it more reliable. Took a while to "master" though.

Hi Jean . I am thinking of getting the rifle stock for my Tair 3S 300mm, but I am not good with electrical or electronic conversion work. Can you tell me how to do it step-by-step (if you don't mind) and what electronic cable I need to buy. Thanks and regards.

Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8 question

Yes, Adam, I mounted the adapter on the camera. I read an old thread here just a minute ago and I noted that there should be a locking spring on the adapter. My copy does not have any spring at all, so there lies the problem. Thank you for your help.

Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8 question

Hi. I received my copy of a Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8 lens and a genuine Pentax M42 to PK adapter last week. I have made the following observations which I would like you to comment on:

1. The lens works only on manual mode. I set the lens switch to manual and select the aperture opening that I want. The viewfinder darkens accordingly, and the shots are properly exposed. When I move the switch to auto, the lens remains open when I take a shot. The photos are always way overexposed regardless of the aperture setting. I notice that there is a pin on the lens mount. I think this is supposed to be tripped when the shutter is pressed so that the aperture closes down. This obviously does not happen here. Am I right in assuming that the pin only works when the lens is mounted on a Spotmatic, and not on a DSLR?

2. The genuine M42 adapter does not lock in place. I see no springs on it. When I remove the lens, the adapter comes off with it. Is the adapter defective?

Your early comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and kind regards.

I tried mounting the adopter on my Pentax ME, Ricoh XR 10 and Ricoh KR5 III. The adapteor goes in but won't lock. It goes back to unlocked position and, of course, falls out.

With my Pentax K5 and K7, the adapter stays in place.

Not that it really matters since I don't shoot film anymore, but I might again in the future. I am expecting delivery of a Super Takumar 55mm /1.8 and a Tair 3S 300mm within this week.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have just received a genuine Pentax M42 to PK adapter that I bought off e b a y. The unit works as it should on my two Pentax DSLR's, but will not on any of my old film cameras. Any idea why? Is the adapter somehow defective? Your comments will be much appreciated.

No, just the lens and it cost me US $65.00 plus $41 for postage. A complete set would have cost over $200 plus postage.

Thanks for your reply. How easy or difficult is it to use with a Pentax DSLR?

Hi. I have just bought a Tair 3S 300mm lens from Russia and a genuine Pentax M42 to PK adaptor from the US. They should arrive here in Sydney by end of this month. I will be using the lens on my Pentax K7 and K5. Has anyone had a any experience - good or bad - with this set up? I have not had time to read through this thread, so if this had been discussed before, kindly point me in the right direction. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I bought a cheap remote not long ago but its range is too short and it not IR. I have read success stories using universal tv remote control but can't find the link anymore. Hopefully, someone here has gone that road and will let me know how to do it. Cheers.

Hi. Thanks for your input but Canon is not in the list of codes. I am trying to use a universal TV/VCR/DVD remote so I don't think it will show any camera code. But I understand that one/some TV codes will work with a dslr, including Pentax.

---------- Post added 08-05-2015 at 02:24 PM ----------

Hi Steve. Can you please be more specific? Which code is it? Thanks.

Would anyone know what code is applicable to Pentax K5 and/or K7? I am trying to use a "Oneforall 8" universal remote control. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your input. With due respect to everyone, I am still very confused because of the conflicting material I have read here and elsewhere. Many claim that the "pre-flash" is not visible to the naked eye, while some claim the opposite. The important thing is I have found that both my built in and external flash are working well. Kind regards to all.

I tried the 2-second set up as you suggested and saw 2 very distinct flashes of about the same intensity. The first looks like the "red eye reduction" flash.
Any comment?

Thanks again for the additional comments. I read somewhere that the "pre-flash" could scare away birds when photographing them with flash, so that by the time the photo is taken the bird is almost outside the frame. Also, that it will make a slave flash fire prematurely. If this is true with P-TTL, I might get an Automatic flash unit and set my cameras accordingly.

Thank you all. My external flash unit is the Sigma ST 530 and it is set to P-TTL. I asked about the "pre-flash" because I read somewhere here that it sometimes causes the subjects to close their eyes and this is captured when the main flash fires. I have never encountered this though. Still confused. I hope my cameras are functioning as they should (flash- wise). Any suggestion how I can be centain about this?
