update from 1st ds to K7 in P mode pictures washed out

hello, so been a while since I've picked up a camera until I scored a Pentax K7, now from my 1st DS it's way more advanced, but use it in much the same way.

I generally shoot in P mode on my 1st DS and never had any problems, Now on my K7 I find that the pictures are all but washed out, no real color , I've changed the wb with no effect, in frustration I changed the dial to green mode and the pictures are coming out wonderful, plenty of color I just can't seem to get the same result in any mode other than green mode..

I know this is a huge newbie question but I just don't have a clue what I'm doing wrong... I've looked at all the settings and can't pin point where I'm going wrong...

I've had it about a week and did a few sunsets, at first I thought this is crap, until i flipped onto Green mode, then it was awesome, but I like to create my own shots with a hint of to much light or not enough, experiment...

Any help would be much appreciated.... why are my shots being washed out, as if there was no color at all.... just shades, very frustrating....

Konica, Minolta, etc. mount to Pentax K - How to save the old lenses

You can buy adapters to convert from a minolta to a Pentax mount, but I have done no research to see what effects it may have. I'd expect there would be something that you would have to compromise to use it.
Do a search on this site or the web, bound to be a pro/con list with these adapters.

I found that it was a very basic operation to achive but if you have doubts, Don't.

Try ebay for the adapter, it's the first place I looked and found what I was looking for, it was just easier for me this way than the other.

Goodluck.

This is a great thread, I just brought a MD Rokkor 50mm 1:1.7 and was looking for adapters but the lens only cost me $10 and for the price of a adapter I could actually buy a 50mm that has a Pk mount, now this has given me a project for the weekend, thanks.

So I've spent a small fortune on trying to build a lightning trigger and had mixed results, I could get it to go off but once it did it wouldn't again, no matter how I put it together so I'm giving up.

I got one the old fashioned way.

Thank you for everyones help, I really appreciate it.

Thanks mate, as you see from the 2 pictures I put up one was with dfs on and the second was with dfs off and it's only a 20 second shot and got a lot of noise, it seems the lightning needs to be a certain brightness for it to work, it's hard enough to get the lightning at all let alone how bright it should be.

I found that Canon also has a similar thing called LENR (Long exposure noise reduction) so it looks as tho I'm doing something wrong.
When your shooting lightning you don't have 30 seconds to wait until the next lightning appears, it's a shame.

You know that feeling when you take some pictures and you get them home and your just blown away by how good you've done, thats how I feel when I get a real good shot of lighting, I missed so many good shots and I'm just trying to get the best I can with what I've got and feel a little let down.

Thank you all for your help, I shall take all your advise and try it all if the skys give me a chance.

hello everyone, heres a chance to tell me how much of a noob I am.

A huge storm came through Sydney last night and my camera and I were there, I put the camera in M and set the exposure time for 20 seconds, I read somewhere the DFS won't kick in until you hit 30 seconds, will on my ist DS it don't matter even 5 seconds it comes on, no point switching it off, noise is a huge problem even for a 20 second shot, I missed so many shots because of it.

Is there any thing I can do to avoid it and not have noise ?

I compare my Pentax to my Fuji S9500 beause it's the only camera I've had before this one, now that has no DFS once its taken a 30 second shot it writes to memory card then it's back into the action and I get NO noise and NO DFS, so should have I not brought a Pentax ?
Does Canon and Nikon have something similar ? Is there a Pentax Model that doesn't have DFS until the exposure hits 30+ seconds

I missed many good shots due to this and would really like to know my options, I love this camera but it's letting me down, or I'm letting me down by not knowing what I should do, or how to.

I appreciate any help and thank you.

What a bargan great results to, The main reason I chose Pentax was due to the camera's them self but also the amount of lens avalible is simpley amazing , and for that kind of money you won't mind if it's ending up a paper weight but turns out to be a diamond in the rough.
I brought a Tasman 135mm at the markets for $10 and it's a prime and takes the sharpest pictures I have, also the amount of light I get in low light situations is amazing.

Well done good score.

I am no pro what so ever, but I do have a DS, and I'm pretty sure the answer is no, the sensor it's self is the item you want to know about and it's made up of small square light sensitive bits and pieces ( remember I'm no pro) and you can't over clock it, it isn't a speed thing like a cpu, it is at it's maximum, I don't think that you could fit a larger MP sensor in it's place, if only camera's were that simple. the only way that I know of getting a bigger MP out of your DS is to sell it and put the money on for a newer model with bigger MP. Sorry to be the berer of bad news, but for my first dslr, it's great, learn it inside and out so when you can finally get a newer camera you'll know everything you'll need to know.
