Need AF Adjust Help.

I can't afford to send my K-5 and Tamron lenses to be adjusted right now.

Is there a way to go beyond -10 without using the Adjust All?

Here's 2 shots at -10 70mm and 200mm. The focus in both was on the top of the 3rd pipe. Single Point AF, w/ No Recompose

70mm - https://www.flickr.com/photos/christrevinophotography/14017335362/

200mm - https://www.flickr.com/photos/christrevinophotography/14020964444/

Full Res +1.50 Exposure but no real changing to the files.

I need to go beyond -10 to -15 or more but I don't know if I can or if I will be stuck shooting my 2.8 lens at f/4 until I can afford to be without my gear and to have them adjusted.

So I ask again, is there a way to go beyond -10 without Adjust All? How much does it usually cost to have lenses micro adjusted? I have to send the camera and lenses right?

Do I send them to Pentax or Tamron? For all I know it could be the camera's AF that is off. Further testing with my other lenses will determine that later.

Now with Canon considering MF we won't even be able to say "At least we have a MF, even if we lack FF"

Pentax needs to hurry up and become a super power!

I've only ever met 1 or 2 other Pentax shooters around the Detroit Area.

Are we the only 2?

Replacing my 70-300mm (Tamron or Sigma?)

I never look at the marketplace because I don't have PayPal, don't even have a Bank Account.

I did find some 55-300 on Amazon for $250 though. Either way it's $50 over my available funds and I have no income coming anytime soon.

Amazon.com: Pentax - SMC-P DA -L 55-300/4-5.8 ED Telephoto Zoom Lens For Digital SLRs (58mm): Camera & Photo

I never said I didn't want a used lens, every lens I own is used including my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and my Pentax M 50mm f/1.4

I was mainly looking at the 2 I suggested because A they were cheaper than the 55-300, B they are new and come with warranties and C they have the macro feature.

I had the 55-300 before sold it with my K-x to get the money to buy my K-5. I can't find one used at $200 or it might have been an option. It still runs $400 new and my limit is pretty much $200 even.

I do like the versatility of having the Macro Feature on the lens as well.

The 55-300mm is def a good lens, just out of the budget.

Replacing my 70-300mm (Tamron or Sigma?)

So, the other day my camera bag fell 4 feet to the floor landing on my Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Macro. It was the old version not the current one.

Anyway, the ring with the Macro switch on it broke so now when it focuses it turns that ring and will extend beyond where it should, all the way to macro extension. It does it often when zooming in and out as well. It wasn't until after it broke that I realized just how much I used it. So, now I am looking to buy a replacement.

While I would love a 70-200mm f/2.8 I simply can not afford it. I can do at best $200 right now though so I'm just looking to replace it and keep shooting.

That said I am looking at the current Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Macro and the current Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Macro as both of them are $200 new meaning I may be able to find one used even cheaper.

Anyone own either lens?

My old one was sharp enough but had some CA issues above 260mm. I typically shot it between 135mm and 200mm as a Portrait Lens or from 200-260 for Wildlife. I never really used it under 100mm

I think atm I am leaning towards the Sigma. The sample images I saw seemed to have it ahead on color and contrast over the Tamron version.

Most people use the lens for Nature/Animal type stuff though so it's hard to judge it's portrait quality on the samples.

As I said I typically shot the old one from 135-200mm between f/5.6 and f/8 for portraits. It didn't have the greatest Bokeh but it was decent and the compression it offered over my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 was nice.

If you own either of the current version of those lenses can you tell me how sharp it is wide open at 70mm, 200mm and 300mm as well as at f/8 if you shoot there frequently as I did. If you have samples of Portraits shot with either lens that would be great.

Yes, I use DNG format.

So essentially it recalculates as you shoot to give you a rough estimate based on high file sizes?

I shoot RAW.

I dunno, it throws me off sometimes. I can't tell if the card is close to full because the number keeps reporting incorrectly.

In my K-01 with the same settings it says 611 Images and my 8GB card says 295 Images. Which is roughly half of the 611 so that makes sense.

The 8gb card says 225 in the K-5 which is also roughly half of 488.

So, I dunno, it just annoys me.

So, for some odd reason my K-5 with a 16gb SDHC says it can only hold 466 pictures. Yet it actually holds 700+

Anyone have any idea why that is?

I don't remember if it always did it or if it started at some point after I got it.

Last night I shot 688 and the Top LCD said I had 20 left. Thought after a fresh format it still says it only holds 466 images.

Thoughts?

Thanks guys. This was shot with the old Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 from across the street from the fire. I find the lens to be decent from 70-260mm but above that the images are soft and heavy with chromatic aberrations so I try to avoid going to 300mm. The top image was at 240mm and the bottom image was at 260mm.

Top Image: 1/400th at f/7.1 ISO200 on the Pentax K-5
Bottom Image: 1/250th at f/7.1 ISO200

I almost exclusively shoot this lens at f/7.1 or f/8 when there's enough light.

The top image has a bit of single image hdr applied over top of the normal shot to enhance the details and add a bit more drama. The bottom image is a basic B&W conversion.

It was a humid day and the humidity captured well as a dreamy haze in all the right places.

Having the tree in front of the sun also give it a warmer feel. The house behind the couple makes it seem like a nice calm picturesque life.

It's too bad I hadn't taken this picture yet when I entered the contest. I surely would have submitted it instead of the Camaro.

oh well!

Single Image HDR. Original image was 2 stops under exposed. It was then tweaked in Adobe Camera Raw to get as much information out as possible. Once in photoshop I did my normal editing to it and then ran it through Topaz Adjusts HDR Dynamic Brightness preset. All of which resulted in the attached image which is cropped into 8x10 format.

Ya, after sending mine back to the factory for a deep cleaning mine seems to work fine, even without going through the annoying fix.

My K-01 is my new "Video" camera though. I don't do much filming on the K-5 anymore.

WR Lense Samples?

As have I, and inspiring at the same time.

I think I've settled on the 50-200 WR for now. I don't plan to go stand in any waterfalls after all. I just want to be able to shoot in the rain.

Normal rain or storms.

A WR lens should be ok for that and the 50-200mm has a pretty big hood to keep the water off the front element. As well as a very good zoom range.

I also don't really need the speed of a 2.8 since the high iso performance of the K-5 is great. I've never once been scared to shoot and print between 3200 and 6400.

I had the 55-300 when I still had my K-x. It was a great lens. I sold it when I sold the K-x to get the money together for my K-5. Since I've been using an old Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6 Macro from ages ago. It's not great but it works.

I'm ok with the 50-200 not being as optically awesome as my 28-75mm f/2.8. I just need good quality and weather resistant so I can go walking in the rain like a jacka** just because I can. Because I shoot Pentax damn it!

It was more of a comment how most of the pictures I find are in clear blue skies with dry ground. Nothing at all that would indicate any weather at all.
