Maui?! That's amazing! I guess I'll try and get a secondhand 55-300mm then. Is there any difference between the DA and the DAL versions? Optically speaking?

I have heard quite a lot about the pentax 55-300mm. If I can't find anything I'll probably go with that. JVi! That sounds pretty interesting, what's it like? Fast enough to get decent action shots?

I need a cheap telephoto for outdoor sports such (rugby and surfing). I don't have a budget really, the cheaper the better. I won't really consider anything over 200. However I'd prefer to not spend that much.

I haven't actually received it yet, a search on google came up with this:

'USA {marketed under Sirius and made by Samyang in Korea] 28-200mm Zoom with fabulous macro mode which works at all focal lengths and can focus within 3 inches of the end of the lens. This classic piece of "Heavy Metal" is big, heavy, offers an increible range, 42-300mm on a Pentax DSLR.'

A lot of people also saying it's best used as a door stop :L

I have just won this lens for the extortionate price of 0.99. What adapter will I need to get it on a K7? Does anyone have any experience with one of these? I only bid a quid to get the auction started but no one wanted it..

Import tax on a camera

Hmm will they believe a K-7 is only worth $20 though. Also if it gets damaged I'll be stuck with only $20 insurance.. Seems awfully unfair to me.

So using USPS/EMS I won't end up paying a hefty import tax? That sounds pretty good to me :)

Hmmm stupid taxes and laws... I'll go to royal mail and ask them, hopefully they'll be able to quote me something. Thanks for the help, such a shame that they feel the need to tax everything :(

Ah that's a pain in the neck... Is there no way around it, claiming it is a present? That's a shame as I was hoping to buy from the US but the threat of tax might just put me off...

I live in the UK, if I bought a camera off the members market would I have to pay import tax on it? Wasn't sure where to post this, hopefully it's ok here.

Pentax k-r vs. the K20D

Well if I was to go for a cheap k-x I could buy a few cheaper, older primes but I'm not sure it would last me long. I've struck the K-r off my list now. The k20d/K7 would probably last me a while as they are aimed at the enthusiastic photographer (I'm a beginner but I love to learn so these two really appeal). So I'm stuck between buying a K-x and a range of lenses and look to upgrade in a few months or go for the K7/K20d and collect lenses over time. The K7 route does seem a bit more sensible as I'll learn what lenses I'll want over time. If you were in my position what would you go for?

Ah there is a kx for about 260 on the members market, a k20d for about 320 on ebay, a K-r for 380 and I've seen a K7 go for about 300 body only.. I know I will love any of those cameras and am over thinking this but I am stuck as to what to go for.

How much more would that add to the total cost?

Also what is the shutter count?

Yeah I am starting to think the K7 might be a better bet, just got to wait for one to pop up somewhere for the right price. Will the increase in MP mean I'll need to invest in better glass than if I owned a K-r?

When you say shoot in the dark, I could capture decent sunsets/sunrises using a tripod and a long shutter speed with the K7 right?

Landscape (seascapes, moors, that sort of thing), outdoor sports (rugby/surfing), and maybe a bit of nature photography but that's going to be very rare. Just to throw another spanner in the works, it seems I can get a K7 for roughly this price... Thoughts? I am keen to learn so a steep learning curve isn't a massive worry for me.

Ah ok, seeing as the K-r and the K-x are quite similar would you say that the K-x is better than a K20d?

I can get either the K-r or the K20D for roughly the same price. This will be my first dslr. Which one would you go for given the choice and why?
