Power source would not be a problem if I use an LED all I'll need is one or couple of CR2032 batteries, which would not take much space at all. One could start a business making this thing.

my point and shoot sony cybershot does not have an IR filter, do DSLRs have them?

Using the near infrared LED is a good idea. I'll give that a try when I find some time.

No need to dismantle anything, one could use an old shoe an hook up couple of LEDs to it. Though one would have to know some electronics, in order to get the voltages and amps just right.

Well I just thought that maybe someone makes something like that.

Can i mount af assist lamp in hot-shoe slot? Would that work? Could I use say, couple of strong LEDs, instead of flash to help the camera focus? What I;m asking is, could the camera turn the LEDs on automatically when it needs extra light to focus?

Do you have any experience with one? What can you tell me about it, other than what I can read from specs.

I don't need the ruggedness, I would like great IQ. And though I'm new to DSLRs, I'm not new to photography. I've used to have a Zenit film SLR. I know what aperture, ISO, etc is and know how to use it.

Why do you hate Canon?

Well I still have a month before I get the camera. Do you think T2i will go down in price till then?

Also, what camera do you own, if you don't mind me asking?

If you had a choice to start again, which system would you choose and more importantly WHY? Keep in mind the brand you would start with is a brand you would stay with (because of investment in lenses) and you could only upgrade the bodies.

K-x with 18-55 and Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens for $750

Are there lenses similar to Nikon 18-105mm and Canon 18-135mm for Pentax?

Canon T2i with Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS UD for about $1150-1200
Can it autofocus during movie mode?
or

Nikon D90 with 18-105mm kit lens for about $1000

Is D90 worth the extra $250 over K-x? Why/Why not?

I don't care about weather sealing, the camera will not be taken out in the rain and I'm not looking for pro experience specifically but if I can get it cheap I'll take it, as my plan is upgrading to semi-pro in the future.

I saw a D90 with 18-105 kit lens for $1000.

T2i with EF-S 18-135 would be $1200.

What camera do you guys own if you don't mind me asking?

Most often: scenic, nature, people with the scenic background, buildings. Basically I like to go for walks/hikes and shoot whatever catches my eye. And, as I said earlier I'm going on a trip to Europe this summer, and I would like a flexible lens that could shoot something from farther, but also could be used indoors and on people. I know, I should get a dedicated lens for indoors and I will, but for start, I want a lens that would be sufficient for all of the above. I don't want to carry bunch of lenses with me and I have limited budget. I was thinking something in terms of 18-105 for Nikon and 18-135 for Canon. Keep in mind I do not own a DSLR and I don't know much about DSLR lenses other than playing with them in stores and reading online, hence I'm here. Thanks.

Well, I went to a store to compare D5000 to D90 and, there isn't much difference in the guts. But the D90 does look and feel more professional, and hence I substituted the D5000 with D90.

We would not want you to do that now. Therefore let me rephrase. If you had money to get only one lens at this time, which "all in one" lens you would get?

See, I'm going on a trip to Europe this summer, and I would like to get the best possible setup to the trip. I'm on a limited budget at this time and I can only afford one lens or couple of cheaper ones, but I would rather spend more for a better lens that can function as the cheaper two.

Yeah, I was looking at this one but it's way out of my budget. And also, it does not give me the range I would like.

Which Tamron? Can you comment on quality of these lenses and or picture quality with these lenses?

K-x with 18-55 (stock;cheaper than body only) and Tamron AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens would cost me: $815

K-x with 18-55 (stock;cheaper than body only) and Tamron AF 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom Lens would cost me: $955

I agree, this would probably be the best band for the buck.

If I were to get Nikon, this is what I was thinking of getting. This setup puts me at $1300.

What do you think/have you hear of Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 AF DC II or Sigma AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS.

Sigma AF 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS with D5000 would cost me: $950
and
Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 AF DC II with D5000 would cost me: $850

Guys, let's stick to the thread. I was wondering how does k-7 compare to this 550d. I have been reading that k-x has better picture quality than k-7 and it is the top of the line pentax. If that's the case I would have nothing better to upgrade to.

Also, how important is the weather resist. I mean, what will happen with a not WR camera if I took it out at say -25 C about 0 F?

Since I'm planning on upgrading some time in the future, would you guys recommend getting a pro-sumer camera now, and not spend the money twice?

This Canon is nice, I don't know how I missed it when I was looking at SLRs. got to find some review and comparisons.

See I wanted to get Pentax, to be different than all the people I know and see, but I also want to upgrade to pro-sumer maybe even pro in future and I would like the lenses I buy now, fit the future camera. Does Canon and Nikon have the same compability with their older lenses and I don't mean from seventies like pentax, but between the different older models of the cameras from the same brand, are they compatible?

Thanks

Hello, I'm in the market for a dSLR and the K-x caught my eye. It would be my first SLR but not the last. Now the price of the kit is very good, but how does the price of lenses compare to the comparable lenses from other competitors (mainly canon and nikon).
Thanks
