Point and Shoot Competition #152 - Monochrome Landscapes

After commenting on everybody else's photos, I realized that I'm the only tree-less person , so here is my entry including a tree. I posted this to Q forum a while ago.

Q7, 08 lens at 3.8mm F/4, ISO 100 1/2000 sec.

American Coots on Columbia River by k kwb, on Flickr

High contrast look is not my PP but the harsh light and I liked it, though I did have to tame it in PP a bit by pushing shadows up and pulling highlights down.

This is an interesting place where these rock cliffs (about 400ft or 120m tall) were carved out by huge ice age floods. If you're interested in that kind of stuff, you want to hike there at least once.

Q7, 08 wide zoom at 3.9mm (which was not wide enough so I made a panorama stitch) f/4.5, ISO 200, 1/800 sec.

Dry Falls! Wonderful location...

Here are a couple from Yellowstone in 2013, Oly ZX-1, converted in PS Elements 15:

A geyser somewhere in the west portion

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and the Lower Falls

Final entry is from my phone (Galaxy S9), the main sheets on the 1924 motor schooner Zodiac, again converted in PSE 15. Sorta a landscape, it was out in between the islands you can see off in the distance...

Great entries everyone!

Mine were taken in my evening walks in my neighborhood. The first one shows beavers' work shot with google pixel 3 in panorama mode. At some point people put protective steel guard fence around each of the remaining trees. I have no idea how beavers could bypass those, but somehow they always outsmart people.

The second one is Pentax Q7 with 06 telephoto at 33mm, f/4, ISO 100, 1/800 sec.

We did a quick mini-vacation road trip this past weekend, driving around the Olympic Peninsula. Spent the first night at the beach and Mother Nature cooperated enough to let us see the sun a bit. Second day we stopped for a walk in the Hoh River Valley rain forest, the wettest place in the continental USA. It lived up to its reputation and showed us why it has such verdant greenery! Snapped on Galaxy S9 phone.

Great entries already!

Cipher, I think they've had it with posing :)
Looks all too familiar.

gbl, beautiful b&w and the never-ending road looks really inviting.

I'll take 3 from our last vacation in France, Brittany.
We cancelled this year vacation but the images from Brittany are still to be culled and processed anyway :)

Little village on the coast, Bénodet.

I actually live in a village that's referred to as "plain vanilla" in English I think.

Nothing much mysterious happens here - what can be a good thing of course - except for the time when a little alien transported right into a tree in a part of the woodlands and is still trapped in there.

Panasonic FX500, 6.3mm (37.0mm equivalent), f/3.8 at 1/80, ISO 100

I'll keep my eyes open to see if I spot anything else before month end :)

Congratulations to Titia, barondla and especially to gbl of course!

Thanks, Bill for a theme that called for some introspection and for the recognition on my entry from Corrèze.

Looking forward to what you'l come up with, gbl.

Thought I'd sneak in another before the month ends. Just in a small group of workmates tens of thousands of dollars in airfares and accommodation have been lost this year. Can't believe how much we all took travel for granted. I should have been in Sumatra in July. I should also note it's a comparatively bearable loss for me. Indonesia is one of the most vulnerable countries and one of the worst hit.

Thanks, Bill!
I guess what we all miss is having the choice.
Although according to a recent study, only 1/3 of the population in Flanders is still motivated and inclined to follow the corona protocol.
Lots of people seem to believe they do have a choice

The mayor part of the processing if not all, was done with DxO FilmPack where you can apply a film emulation and then change the basics like tone curve, contrast etc.

Thanks, Titia.
We use to go every other year to France.

Wonderful scenery and light, Titia!
You really live on the border :)

Carefree is indeed what this image is showing us, Jim!

Unlike most people, I most miss free time. Before Covid-19 I was happily working 30-35 hours a week. As an essential employee, I'm now working a minimum of 40 hours a week with lots of overtime. This has allowed purchase of a Pentax 645Z system, but I have so little time to actually shoot it. To make matters worse I commute 20 minutes each way to work. The highway department closed the interstate highway forcing me to drive through a large town. Now the commute time has doubled. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there will be any improvement until Jan. 2021. Ughh.

Pentax Q7 with #01 standard lens. Jpeg in camera multiple exposures.

Thanks for listening and looking,
barondla

I miss the ability to travel, like so many others. A carefree day on the lovely isle of Kauai back in 2012.
