Sigma 10-20 f3.5 HSM live view focusing problem

Some Sigma HSM lenses can have issues with CDAF. For example, the 8-16 had to have a firmware update to work properly with the Nikon d5300 in Live View. If you search you'll find some threads on the subject. Luckily the 10-20 is easy to set to hyperfocal (if that's what you want).

Repair. And make a stink so that they expedite the repair at their expense. They sold you something that was not up to their claim. They should fix it. And in a timely enough fashion for you to have it for what you needed it.

Please THOROUGHLY test it. I bought a cheap 16-50mm off of ebay and discovered it doesn't focus at infinity. Shooting inside my living room didn't show the issue. And so I thought it was OK and didn't return. Only after the return period did I realize it had focus issues.

Cost to repair is at minimum 206.50 USD so you want to get that right off the bat.

Canon 7d II (aps) and 5Ds (full frame) can compensate for this. Pretty cool. Pentax, are you listening?

Why bother when you can buy underwater housings? And if you get a clear one you might be able to spot when it is leaking.

ultraviolet light to bring out sun damage ?

CMOS sensors have better sensitivity in the UV range from 400~280nm due to their thinner EPL*, CCD sensors are better for 700-1000nm IR as they have a thicker EPL. You will need to convert the camera to full spectrum. I would suggest removing the hot mirror and replacing it with Schott sapphire glass - which has excellent transmission from UV to IR. I'm unsure of the exact dimensions and thickness of the hot mirrors used in Pentax cameras, so you should use the filter removed from the camera as a reference.

K-3 Master and Controller flash switched

It is important to note that camera/subject distances play a critical role in this, this is the reason why using an external flash for a controller is better as it is possible to maneuver flash head away from close subjects while still allowing for wireless optical triggering.

A Gentle Reminder: Keep those reviews on point

I'll offer a differing point of view, and everyone can dump on me instead of the review. A user review is not about the "fault" of a lens. It is not about whether its designers in 1980's did a bad job or whether it was in fact a superb piece of engineering for its time.

To me, user reviews are about the practical pros and cons of owning and using this lens compared to others. I have shot Pentax for more than 40 years and have quite a few M, K and A lenses, but I do not expect that everyone else knows all the ramifications of an "M" lens. The degree of difference between and M lens and an A lens is not nearly comparable to whether a K5 is a film camera, especially in a line which prides itself on the usability of older lenses on current bodies.

A "con" is not an insult. A "pro" is not a compliment. It is just information. Maybe I don't need some of that information, but many, many people look at reviews on this site who have far less familiarity with the history of Pentax lenses.

Aren't you overreacting a bit? or a lot...?
I think it's a bit offensive towards the people that bothered to share a picture with you showing what a certain lens looks like.

Poll: How many of you use back-button AF?

you can effectively switch from afc to afs very easily.

You get access to the very fast exposure rate.

For complex focus operations such as picking a detail in a busy scene you can focus and take multiple shots without losing focus or hunting.

An automatic feeling of superiority when someone else uses your body and can't make it work.

Takes a while to learn and you will miss the odd shot when the camera doesn't respond as expected until you remember the thumb.

it sounds like your comments were taken as trying to dissuade her from getting the fisheye and she didn't like that. I never saw where the brand of camera had anything to do with the conversation.

IMO, a fisheye and a rectilinear ultra wide do not overlap, that is they are completely different tools for rendering a scene. When i want to use FE, the UW recti is not going to cut it, and vice versa.

...the correct LBA answer would be, "you should own BOTH!"
