Hi, everyone!! I was a user of Photoshop Elements and my husband met a guy who could get an employee price on PS CS4. He got it for me for Christmas... I AM SO EXCITED!!!

I downloaded the trial version so I could check it out and I quickly realized that I HAVE NO CLUE what I am doing :o!!! I found a few tutorials online, but they seem to be for people who are already using an earlier version of CS.

Do you have any recommendations for online tutorials or books for someone who is just jumping in to CS4?

Thanks!!

Thanks, guys! It was really tough shooting in this light, because it was so bright it cast lots of shadows. I also was sometimes limited as to where I could stand. Thanks so much for the suggestions and to Ben for adjusting my photo for me.

I made a cape for my 6 year old, so I had to make one for my 2 year old as well. I really didn't think he'd know what it was, but when I put it on he yelled, "Man-man!" and started running and jumping. Here's a picture...

My inlaws renewed their vows a week ago and asked me to take the photos. Funny enough - the ones I liked, they weren't crazy about. They liked the ones that had birds/boats in the background or other people. They wanted me to "uncrop" them... weird!

Anyhow, here are some examples, I'd like to have the opinions of people who actually know photography! These are lower resolution

Hi, Joe. It's 25mm or less in digital format. So, I'll be OK.

Mr. A - Thanks for the site. I'm checking it out now....

How Can I Determine Focal Length?

Hey, guys. I was practicing with my kit lens for this month's photo contest. The rules state that the picture must be 25 mm focal length or less. The problem is - since my kit lens zooms from 18-55mm, how can I be sure that I'm staying below 25 mm? I've already taken some pictures and I'm not 100% sure if I stayed below 25 mm. Is there a way to check on my computer program (I'm using iPhoto)?

Any information would be helpful.

I guess that would have to do with LBA and other addictions of the Pentax owners. After all, with all the money we save, we have more to spend on accessories!! ;)

Lesson learned! I will definitely use my regular credit card from now on. I like the fact that the debit card doesn't carry a "balance," and is more like using cash, but there's no sense in it if the cash is going down the drain!

I called my bank and as I said, they recommended that I return the item, refusing to sign; however, they could not recommend that I will get my money back, since they are not "in charge of the company's policy." I still think I'll send it back. After all, I'll be out $75 (that is IF they return my money!), which is less that I was "bamboozled" for.

Man, oh man. I appreciate everyone's responses. I contacted the credit card company and they will not cancel the order (it was a debit card). I'm taking Steven's advice and will chalk it up to experience. I know that I will be a much more cautious consumer from here on out. An expensive lesson, but one well-learned!

Thanks for your support, everyone.

I'm making myself sick thinking about this!! The more searching I do, the more I realize that there have been thousands of people scammed by these frauds!! There should be SOMETHING that we can do! A class action law suit? How does one even go about doing that?

Pentax AF-360 Battery Pack

OK - My question above was asked because I had just ordered a "battery pack" from Broadway Photo. I was scammed. See my post about it here:

DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING from BROADWAY PHOTO. They are expert scammers and I fell prey. :o

I've been bamboozled! Normally, I'm pretty good at recognizing scams, but this one GOT ME. I ordered a Pentax AF-360 from Broadway Photo. I got a call and the guy was talking a million miles an hour. I was distracted at work and somehow wound up agreeing to a battery pack and recharger for $69. Right after hanging up, I knew I made an error. I called back and while on hold, I looked up reviews for Broadway Photo.

Apparently, this is a huge tactic of theirs! They "bait and switch" and get customers to pay WAAYY more than what they bargained for. In addition, they sell "grey market" items. So, my "good price" of a flash winds up costing almost as much as a 540 with the rebate!!! I don't even know if the flash is new, refurbished, or used!

By the time I got back in touch with Broadway, only 15 min had passed since I last talked to them. The "regional manager" said that the order had been shipped. NO WAY! Only 15 minutes had passed! I demanded that he cancel my order. He said that I could return the item, but had to pay shipping both ways ($25 each way) and a $25 restocking fee. So, $75 to return the flash.

So, I will wait for my almost $300 flash that is only worth $125 if I would have bought it from the more reputable Amazon with the rebate. I'm embarrassed and ashamed that I "fell for it."

My advice - Never EVER order anything from Broadway photo. This was a very expensive lesson. Please learn from my mistake...

Thanks, everyone! Russ, the links you gave me were great. THe one I found most useful was in that batch - "How to Choose Your Second Lens." Pentax Poke, I liked your links as well. All very useful! I feel like I know so much more than I did this time yesterday!

Thanks to everyone's opinion. I think I'm going to go with the 50mm, though I'm still deciding between 1.4 and 1.8.

You guys are the bomb-diggety!! The link on focal length was extremely helpful. It was great to have a visual comparison as well.

AND - what can I say about the document on Exposure!!?? Thank you so much for sharing this. I've printed it out and have highlighted (geek, I know! :o).

Now - you guys have gotten me interested in the 50mm 1.4 (or possibly 1.7). I have another question. The *ist DL has a K mount (I'm pretty sure). I found some affordable lenses on eBay, but it looks like it's for "film" cameras, but also has the K mount. Can I interchange the two?

Thanks again for answering my continuing questions...

Oh, and as for being a "newbie" - I guess I should have specified... I'm a newbie to lens purchasing (LBA, here I come!), but not to SLRs. I used a Film SLR for about 5 years and have had my *ist DL for almost two years.

Yes - I have the 18-55 mm lens. I don't know what I have to do to "master" the lens. I mean, the pictures I take are actually pretty good. I did a google search for lens basics and pretty much found nothing. I guess I'm not sure what the "mm" difference is (10-17 mm vs. 18-55, etc.), nor am I familiar with what the "f" is for (with the exception that it would be similar to the "f stop," but still not 100% on that one.

If anyone knows of a website that might be able to explain this info, I would be soooooo appreciative!

Thanks,

Terri

Sorry about that - it's a *ist DL. The lens is the one that came with the camera.
