Lightroom Lens Profile for new DFA 85mm lens

This was the answer, thanks. I am working with Lightroom 6.12 version. I switched to Lightroom CC subscription for a time and just hated that version so luckily I had not uninstalled my classic version. Installing the newest DNG converter updated everything in the Lightroom application and the new lens is right there. Since I had already imported a photoshoot, and I have Lightroom set up to import as Adobe DNG files, they were in the wrong format. However, I just opened the DNG converter (per the handy video instructions someone linked above) and converted the files I planned to edit. I knew it had worked right away because Lightroom recognized the lens when I clicked on the EXIF info, when before it just said 85 mm, nothing more. Easy peasy!

If you have not looked into the new D-FA 85mm, heftiness aside, I cannot say enough great things about it. This weekend I took an entire family photo session with it and never even pulled another lens out of my bag, which is a first.

Thanks for all the help, Angie

FA 77 mm and the new D FA 85 mm are all I want to carry for portraits now, the former for the portability and classic pixie dust and the latter for images that are simply perfect

Lightroom Lens Profile for new DFA 85mm lens

I cannot seem to locate an Adobe lens profile for the new Pentax DFA 85mm lens. Could the issue be that I am using Lightroom classic 6? I really am not a fan of Lightroom CC; it lost some functions that I prefer.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I apologize to the forum for my delay. This has been a terrible month for us, having to place our mother in Alzheimers care. Not really been excited about photos for some reason. But it was very nostalgic for me to get a K1000 in my hands again Ohio has been ugly but I kept the camera with me and tried my hand a few things. Maybe I will get them developed.

Who is the next person on the list, if any?

Excellent link and NormHead does a thorough job of setting the record straight. With a quick shift and the other features, what could I lose by trying it? I wonder why the lens database does not list it as both APS-C and FF like the 40mm Limited and some others? Doe this DA* have the same SDM failure issues? I ask because I would start by looking for a used copy.

Nevermind...I see them listed in the screwdrive conversion post

No, a deal is a deal! I wouldn't do that to you. We moved this summer and I promised to downsize the lens collection. When I went with the Pentax 100mm Macro, mainly because of the weather seal, I knew the Sigma had to go. That being said, I still prefer the images of the Sigma to any other. If I had an unlimited budget and unlimited space...

I keep hearing this, and it is why I have been saving, to make the leap. Also, while the images the 50-135 produce are dreamy, I miss shots where a quick focus is needed--was hoping the 70-200 would be an improvement, as I am getting more work with animals and children, who never stay still.

I will never part with my FA 77, so adding a DA*200mm seems an ideal alternative, IF it was a FF.

Thank you for your detailed reply. It is exciting to hear from someone who made the switch from the 50-135 crop to 70-220 FF and is excited about it. This is probably the assurance I needed to hear. I love the peak design snaps as well and I will have to look into what kind of connection I would need to connect it securely to the lens tripod mount. I love the convenience of those but sometimes I wonder if those tiny cables really are strong enough (I have them on both of my cameras, so far, so good). I am guessing that you are about 20 years younger than me, which means you are probably more fit and strong than I am, and I may just be in need of more pushups. My DA* 50-135 is up for sale, so perhaps I will let fate decide. I am coming into a busy season of fall family photos.

First, I will admit that I usually laugh when people factor lens weight into their reviews, so I find myself eating my words.

Obviously big lenses don't bode well on 15 miles hikes, but for normal use, should it matter? Well, I have come to believe "yes." I took my D FA 24-70 on a shoot this weekend. I normally don’t use my zooms for professional work on location (other than my DA*50-135, which is like a pack of primes) as I have just come to prefer the look of prime pics, and the portability of primes, but didn’t want to be changing lenses in a very dusty barn environment, AND my helper had to cancel at the last minute. I was using both my K-1 and K-3, as I was doing some work with horses and riders. Had some primes in my pocket that I didn’t end up using.

I took over 1000 pictures (using burst mode while chasing horses around) and I must conclude that the weight of the lens DOES MATTER. Oh, my word. It wasn't just the weight, it was the unwieldiness of it all. I say all this not a criticism of the 24-70 lens, per se'--because its weight is only slightly more than the 50-135, which I am used to—and I enjoy the lens, I do. I say it because I am selling my DA* 50-135, which I use on the K-3, to upgrade to the D FA* 70-200 which is nearly 3 x the weight. I do not care for using the 50-135 on crop mode, am ready to make the switch—or so I thought.

I may have to pull my ad for the 50-135 because I am seriously rethinking this…no one wants studio portraits anymore and I am too klutzy for tripods on certain location shoots. Is the 70-200 a true upgrade from the 50-135 (SDM issues aside)? Thoughts and experiences?

It's because we live in a time where people want immediate results. We all know that experience trumps equipment every time. I can make good pictures with any equipment because I've been doing it since film. I worked my way into better equipment as my capacity to fully utilize it expanded. Now people drop $5K for their first system and instantly they are pros, can make good pictures in spite of their lack of experience, and because with digital you can take 1000 photos, get 100 good ones and impress like you know how you made those. Even with digital I still photograph like I'm using film. I compose, and most the time even if I take 15 of the same shot, the first one is the best. Good equipment is nice, but nothing replaces practice.

Well God bless him and his family. So very sorry to hear it was something so awful. Of course his life is more important than a traveling camera. Hopefully he is recovering.

I agree, let's move on or try with another camera. No use waiting anymore. Disappointing that whoever has it wouldn't just tell us. We are all capable of handling any unpleasant truth like it broke, was lost or stolen, the member moved and forgot, or whatever, but total silence is complete frustration.

Thanks, Howie Be, I had also used this set up successfully with my K3 but no luck with my K-1--well, intermittently it seemed to work--but the firmware and the one setting change was all we needed! No need for additional cactus transmitters or any other purchases for once.

I hate to assume the worst about someone or the situation. Plus, the camera is not even valuable beyond the value of what a fun exercise this has been and that we all would like it to continue and be a part of it. If there is a way to message him, we should try. Even if it turns out the camera was lost or busted, surely he understands its better to just let us know rather than to keep us wondering.

Cactus V6II / off camera HSS with a P-TTL flash

I've been experimenting with my Cactus v6ii and HSS using my Godox 850's and Flashpoint 360, by stacking the FT-16 transmitter and it's working fabulously, and I am pleased to have an HSS wireless option now. I purchased the Sigma 610 super for the P-TTL and HSS, but have grown tired of being limited to on-camera or tethered with a cable. In a perfect world my cactus would work with the Sigma and I wouldn't have to invest in any further lighting equipment, but alas, I agree with Nigel in that the ergonomics of the Cactus interface as excellent--small enough to be compact but large enough that I can manage the buttons and see the settings easily. Nothing against Acon, but when I started researching off-camera lighting I was put off by the learning curve and there seemed to be a language barrier making the technical data difficult for me to navigate and understand. Now the website has disappeared so at this point I am thinking I will sell the Sigma (still a very good flash on camera) and get the RF60x.

Sadly, my Sigma 610 Super wouldn't either. Having HSS and P-TTL seems to good to be true. Got pretty excited by the workaround posted in the forum using HSS by stacking the FT-16 on the Cactus, but following the exact instructions of the OP, I still could not get HSS with my Godox 850s like the OP.

I love my silver K-1. People keep asking me about my "vintage' camera--yah, makes me feel artsy. Takes me back to that first 35mm film Pentax--I'm sure that was the point, Ricoh knows Pentaxians are old timers and all that. But now I'm too broke to afford a 24-70 which is on the short list. If only they would make an 85mm 1.4 in silver, my kit would be perfect.
