YN-04 II max voltage?

I went ahead and tried it yesterday... all seems fine.
Guess they know what they're talking about.
Thanks for the reply.

Another question then is if the yn-04 II can take up to 300v can I put the transmitter on the camera and safely use a flash with high voltage on top of it?
That I don't want to try unless I know for sure it's safe.

YN-04 II max voltage?

Can anyone confirm that the YN-04 II can handle high voltage.
I've seen many people state that it is good for 12v and under, but have seen some say it's fine for up to 300v.
This thread in particular someone says he got a message from the manufacturer saying it's ok...

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-flashes-lighting-technique/156588-...-question.html

So I'd like to know if anyone knows for sure (as in, has the YN-04 II and uses it with higher voltage flashes with no issues).

Can anyone confirm that a Vivitar 2600D flash will be safe to use on a k-r?
I don't see it on the list Photo Strobe Trigger Voltages , but have seen some people claim it's under 6v.
Are all 2600D units going to be pretty much the same voltage?
I don't have any way to test it right now.

A bit out of my price range right now.
I got a vivitar 2600D for free, and another flash that was sold with a YN-04 II trigger set.
I'll see how that works out and go from there I guess.

I just got my hands on a Vivitar 2600D for free!
Haven't checked voltage yet so I'm not totally sure it's safe for my k-r (I think the D version should be safe).
I want to use if off-camera mostly anyway.
Anyone have some experience with this flash and the following triggers?

RD616 16 Channel Transmitter Slave Flash Trigger Radio Free Shipping | eBay
RF-602 Wireless Flash Trigger for Canon/Samsung/Pentax DSLR Cameras - Free Shipping - DealExtreme
YongNuo Wireless Remote Flash Trigger for Canon 430/580 EX DSLR Digital Camera - Free Shipping - DealExtreme
Amazon.com: CowboyStudio NPT-04 4 Channel Wireless Trigger for External Speelights with 1 Trigger and 2 Receivers (NPT-04+extra receiver): Camera & Photo

Do any of them sync at 1/180?
Is there another option in the same price range?

I'm looking for a flash to use with a k-r.
Would like something like a Nikon SB-24 or similar.
Really don't have much money to work with right now so I'm hoping someone out there with more flashes than they know what to do with will give me a good deal.

PM me with what you've got and how much it'll be to have it shipped to Ontario, Canada.

Are the bellows on ebay from China worth the money?
Most are around $40 CAD with free shipping.
Will I get stuck paying extra when it gets here?

Only reason I'm reversing the 18-55 kit lens is because that's all I have to mess with.
That @ 18mm held up to the end of the Tamron 90mm gives pretty decent magnification.

I'm considering the microscope route, but don't have much money to play with right now.
Not sure if my first buy should be extension tubes or reverse ring for the tamron+kit lens combo.
I also need a flash, but I should be getting one soon.

Looking for suggestions to push my macro magnification.
I recently got a Tamron 90mm Di macro and am playing around with reversing the 18-55 kit lens onto it.
Would it be worth getting a ring to hold them together (so I don't have to do it by hand), and if so, what one will I need?
I'm also considering getting some extension tubes to play around with, but I'm not sure what ones I should get.

Those are some nice shots, ursamajor... though they do seem a bit soft.
Nothing my k-r can't do, though, and I'm sure many other k-r owners can say the same.
Sorry yours didn't work out, but many others are not having the same problem (or at least not to the same degree).
I almost bought a 550D, but then I saw the k-r... don't regret it one bit.
Anyway, hopefully you will stop bashing the k-r now, and go take some pictures.

I noticed something like that 'twang' sound with my k-r a couple of times shortly after I first got it.
Not sure what caused it, but it made me a little curious.
Normally it doesn't do that though.

Pentax 50mm macro vs Sigma 50mm macro

Thanks stevebrot... nice images.
I see your reply on the review page and you say it's nota great lens for 1:1 shots (even static objects?). That's something I'm interested in so if that's the case I may really look for a slightly longer lens. The cheapest I can find the Sigma here in Canada is around $420 (special order from Henry's)... cheapest I can find in US is $299. The Tamron 90mm is going for around $350 CAD (new) on ebay right now so I'm still seriously considering that lens.

I'm going to take a bit more time to figure out what I want. Thanks for the replies so far and I hope to hear more.

Pentax 50mm macro vs Sigma 50mm macro

Maybe this thread should be renamed to something like "Help me pick a macro lens" or something...

I know I'll probably want to have more than one macro lens. If I could afford it I'd buy a few right now, but I do have to pick one (and I'm kinda low on cash). I do get quite a few shots around 70mm - 100mm... 50mm is just a bit more workable indoors for me. Outside I use pretty much the full range of the kit (from 18mm to 300mm) depending on what I'm shooting.

How close do I want to get shooting macro? Well that'll depend on the situation I suppose. I think I could work pretty close... I've done it before and had pretty good results. I can see the extra reach being very useful at times though...

Right now the Tamron is going for a pretty good price and I'm really considering that one. It's either that or probably the Sigma 50mm due to it being cheaper than the Pentax 50mm.

How would the Tamron AF 90mm f2.8 Di SP Macro compare to these two?
I've seen it going for less than either of the 50mm lenses.
Anyone here with experience with the Tamron 90mm macro?

Ordering from Canada... warranty on lenses?

So basically if I order the lens and it comes with a US warranty I'll be covered in Canada for one year, and service can be done here in Canada?
Or are you saying I'd have to contact Sigma and ask them?

I will look into the SageMax plan too, though I normally don't bother with extras like that...

Thanks for the reply.

Pentax 50mm macro vs Sigma 50mm macro

I'd like to be able to afford a couple different focal length macros, but right now I have to pick one (if I'm going to buy new and want AF, that is... if I go MF I may be able to get both...). I'm sure there'll be times, no matter which length I choose, that I'll wish I had something else for some situation. I do like to shoot insects and other small critters, but as I mentioned, there are none around right now and won't be for at least a couple months. However, there are lots of other things around to shoot which I enjoy shooting just as much that won't require the extra reach... it may even be a problem. It really is a tough choice. Just today I was shooting birds and some chickadees came close enough to get some nice shots @ 100mm with the kit lens...

As to which of these to 50mm would be the best choice... well, the Sigma is a better price, and looks to be a pretty good lens. It should do most of what I'll want to do with it. The focus limiter seems like a good idea, but I have no experience with it to know how well it actually works. The Pentax also looks great... has the qsf which, like the focus limiter on the Sigma, I have no idea how useful it is. If that's the biggest advantage of going with the Pentax lens is it worth the extra money? I just don't know... The IQ from both look more than acceptable to me (like to hear more comments from others on this in particular) so it really comes down to features/cost/build quality/durabulity I guess.
