For sure, and I think several others have had it too.
Could be a case of how camera makers deal with it (as above there are many which do not experience this despite also having on sensor AF Phase Detect points) or even about user training.
I've seen similar situations where the use of electronic shutter produces this situation with strobing artificial lighting for example due to CMOS rolling shutter sensor read delays.

It's an interesting one. On a personal level I much prefer the optical viewfinder (especially in the camera price bracket I can actually afford) but I do recognise it's limitations.
From another angle you can argue mirrorless is a more pure camera form, in terms of you get to see exactly what the film is actually seeing, rather than an optical approximation of what's going to be captured.
Both are through the lens but I really love the digital focus aids that just aren't available if the camera computer can't see the actual image. This is great for both manual focus work but also for portraits with focus assistance smarts around face and eye recognition etc.

I think mirrorless is the future, but I'm not exactly sure at what point it will be in my future. Covid uncertainty has rather put the brakes on any major changes right now anyway.

Thanks for looking into it. I'm not worried about a long shipping time personally, but not sure I can stomach an additional half cost again for shipping. Looks like a great offer for someone.

Not entirely sure I get this?

Assuming on sensor phase detect AF sensors?
I'm not aware of anyone with a K-70(?) experiencing any IQ issues from this for example.

I'd almost forgotten about the fast ferries that used to service the cook straight. I remember looking down on them one day as they sped past the traditional ferry. Was fast but had a lot of 'movement' shall we say

For the record, this was not me :D

With the move to mirrorless, legacy lenses from multiple mounts can be used with fairly simple adaptors. This means we're no longer competing just with other Pentax body owners anymore.
Personally I think the mirrorless format is ideally suited to manual focus lenses, as you gain digital zoom and focus aids like focus peaking to help use the lens.

Not entirely sure, would have to look back. For me it's more a peace of mind thing that I'm not worried if it does start to rain.
Have used at the likes of kids sports activities, when most other cameras are being rushed away.

Honest question at the moment is where is anything new from Pentax lately?

We were shown a mock up model of a new APS-C camera last year, hopefully the K-3 successor, but it's been a similar time since the 645Z was released.

5 or more years between model line upgrade releases is rather pushing it.

Good to know. Wide on APS-C is the tricky bit.
Reminds me of that Pentax composition adjustment thing, where you can take 4 shots a bit wider than normal, by moving the sensor to each corner of it's SR adjustment limit.
Really wish Pentax would automate that concept.

Haven't used the Pentax much recently, but it did get an outing when we went camping. Need time to develop those photos.

Lately I've been experimenting lately with 360deg cameras.
I got the Xiaomi Mi Sphere camera from Amazon for just over $250 or. It's basically 2x GoPro cameras back to back on a very thin body.
Got the official 'selfie stick' and this is so thin the camera can't see it, so you end up with a viewpoint that's not anchored to you, it's all quite cool.
The Xiaomi is not bad for stills, but is poor ish by today's standards for video (lol sounds familiar as I write that).
You can edit the shots in Lightroom etc too, and it's quite a cool concept for realeastate, where you can basically make your own little google street view type tours.

Also have way too much family footage and projects for other people to edit. Need about a month away from the world to complete all those outstanding projects going back years now!
Here's a small short from a walk along the Rarotonga coast. iPhone 7, GoPro, and Xiaomi Mi Drone which I've since sold as is too involved to fly in most of NZ I visit.

Yeah that's the pain point, where say someone is wearing a blue or purple top.

I've been experimenting with 360deg photography recently, using a Xiaomi camera I got from Amazon. It's basically two wide angled GoPro sensors back to back, and when stitched gives you a 360deg photo the likes of Facebook will let you navigate around. On the edges/seams you'll get mean purple fringing due to the angles, so you find yourself ensuring that the main points of interest are at 90deg to the centre of the lens.

I am really prone to the chromatic aberration, to the point that I get basic Resin glasses lens material (rather than fancy polycarbonate etc) because it's got the higher Abbe value.

Bit of purple fringing in there. If you have lightroom you can either apply the auto removal, or in this image just pull the purple colour channel saturation and luminosity down.
Nice and sharp though. Really like that lens.

Yep, doesn't fit the modern fast transaction concept. When we were looking at houses, we'd do a search based on the amount of money we had/what we could afford. Any house listed as Price on Application was skipped. I don't have time to play games, their loss. Looking for a car now is the same. Trademe, classified only as I'm not bidding on a car I've never seen, and with max and min price/year/kms/location filters applied.

Tends to be an older generation thing, but is so artificial.
Regularly see people selling an $800 item, with a reserve of $800 but a starting bid of $50.

Yes you get lots of interest, but it's quite unrelated to your aim of exceeding the reserve.

Much prefer a starting bid of the reserver, or alternatively the car classified option, where you can negotiate with the seller.

I have one of those. Best lens I own really.

Out of interest, when I did the lens calibration on my lenses a while back - this was the only one to be spot on already on both cameras.

Nice!!

How did you find using it out in the sun, and wearing sunglasses?
Sucks really bad. Popped sunglasses up when I turned the camera in portrait as the polarisation blocked it completely.
Didn't investigate the bright screen mode, but should have/will do.

Thanks for all the info on the 300's available.
Genuinely annoyed at how expensive it is to go long on APS-C, especially with any quality and AF capability.

I'm lucky enough to have access to the full adobe suite via my work, but even then Lightroom on subscription is pretty much the same as Lightroom standalone. Once you export your final image, that's then a normal file you keep outside of Lightroom. You would need an active subscription to access the editing stage, but it's doubtful anyone else would do that? At all times you keep your own source image and then the final exported image.

I travelled with the family this last week and left the Pentax at home, a first for me. I picked up a small mirrorless Canon M100 with kit lens over Christmas sales and took that instead. No viewfinder, just one large rear tilting touch screen. Will review the images later on the computer, but basically I loved using it. Found faces and tracked them well plus adjusted the exposure to ensure the face was properly lit. Could easily switch between stills and video as required, and tracked by simply selecting the area on the rear screen. First exposure to mirrorless was very good, and APS-C sized sensor behind it all too. Not sure if it's the one I'd go with long term, but the user experience was very good.

Put the K-S1 on Trademe, but little interest so far. A lot of watchers, but that's about it.

Agreed. Not saying a large sensor, interchangeable lens camera doesn't have a place any more, far from it. Just saying when you choose to pull that out is much more orientated around the end use requirement nowadays.
I don't bother using a DSLR any more to add photos to trademe auctions etc.

Yeah I read about the likes of the Samsung A70, which has a dedicated 5MP depth camera, so portrait modes have some additional real data to use in determining in focus and out of focus areas.

Olympus has done this with their long exposure shots for a quite a while. Very cool and allows you to keep going until you have the number of light trails you want etc.
It's concepts like that which I'd love to see Pentax bring to older existing cameras, so you can see your image developing when using live view mode for long exposure shots.
