Plastic - Why so much shy-away, hatred?

There's no one-size-fits-all answer to this. Happy meal toys are made of plastic and so are front-line firearms and aeronautical components. All plastics are not created equal.

Worst equipment that gave you a good image?

I got an old pentax ME from the dusty shelf of an old antique shop. Disassembled the lens and cleaned everything. The objective was basically sand blasted, totally useless... except that it gives an awesome effect in the bokeh in bright lighting. Translation: I pretty much never use it.

My favorite part of this is that none of them are just plain outdated. They all still have things to offer!

It's fun to add how many commonplace features were first done by PENTAX. SLR, SLR AF, spot metering, mirrorless, pentaprism, etc.

Good advice. For this kind of thing you sometimes need to stretch the outside parameters of the camera.

I like being inspired by the work of others, but it's really my own photos that I can control. My main focus is avoiding the slippery slope of letting the works of others define what my goals are. I want to be as unique in my work as I am in my person. An outpouring of personality like any other good art. Its not my job, the product doesn't often have to be enjoyable to anyone but me (I don't mean that in a selfish way, just a good practice for personal hobbies).

Travel camera choices?

I know this is just wrong on here, but my carry-everywhere camera is a Canon PowerShot SD790. It's old, cheap, stainless steel, small, photos much better than my phone...and small. That's 100% of it, it's way smaller than my K-3 with just one lens. Hard to carry something good everywhere.

Edom31, I totally see it. This is a great idea for a threat, enjoyable hidden beauty here. Some things only speak to your lower brain and not your preconceived perceptions of what is "good photography".

I'm in the same boat with you (not the equipment issue, but emotionally). It's a real joy to come back into a work you are passionate about after a long hiatus. I'm also "thinking in photos" again, thanks for sharing.

death of bokeh?

I can definitely see where this is coming from. I feel that we are oversaturated with PHENOMENAL images at this point. The best of the best is normal to us now so the new thing that is the most different just happens to be crap. Kind of frustrating for photography lovers, but a natural ebb and flow I suppose. Maybe in 10 years the tide will come back in...

This is a pretty pessimistic thought, but where do you draw the line between getting this first full-frame now with such a sacrifice and just saying "Pentax can do better, I'll wait for the next release"?

How do you motivate yourself?

YouTube, 500px, and most importantly Pentax Forums give me the ideas and support. Bringing my camera with me almost everywhere gives me the in-moment inspiration. Motivation, I think, is a product of these factors.

Also, participating in competitions is a driver; as is having a particularly enjoyable subject, in my case my daughter. When I was younger I competed in 4-H, a great way to get kids interested.

Ricoh lists "Digital Cameras" as item number 4 under the "Other" category in its financial report from 2017. Let's hope this is not indicative of their efforts to develop this storied replacement.
