My advice (worth as much as you paid for it :P):

Look into the business models and mission statements for both Google and Mozilla and think about what it means for the future of the internet if everyone adopted one or the other. They're both "free" in terms of cost... but are there other kinds of freedoms to consider? :)

You may find that your hand is forced and one browser just works better for you. On mobile, I find that Chrome is much better suited and the Firefox app made my device run hot and slow when I tried it (in addition to not supporting Flash). That may change in the future and so I will check Firefox mobile again; I haven't written it off. But for now it's Chrome.

On PC however, where it is not hindered, Firefox has a permanent stay on my desktop and laptop. My wife also uses Firefox on her Macbook over the default Safari. We haven't found a reason (yet) to prefer or need the proprietary browser. YMMV

Use whatever works for you but make it a conscious decision, I say, and know why you chose it.

Hey Tonytee, nice image! I was just wondering, since you mentioned spot metering, how did you pull off the exposure?

Are you using some kind of zone system, and did you put a specific part of the flower into a zone, or...?

The most I've done with spot metering was to meter against a gray card in ambient lighting conditions to set my exposure. I used to do that with the K1000.

Pentax lens profiles missing after LR 6.10 update

Thanks for pointing them out! I may take a look.

I won't sweat it for JPEG though. My camera usually stays in RAW for things that I think I will want to edit. My wife's K-S1 stays in JPEG for simplicity for her; I just hadn't realized that this was the issue here.

I'll definitely make sure that the K-S1 is set to do in-camera lens corrections at least.

I think you're okay to shoot burst in RAW mode, photolady. My understanding of that bit on p. 123 is just that while you have your camera set to Continuous shooting mode (either Hi or Low) the ability to save the last JPEG frame as a RAW file is unavailable. It won't affect you if you're shooting RAW anyway.

What page in the manual says that? I have my K-50 set to RAW, AF.S, Continuous-Hi, and it seems to be working (but the burst rate is shutter speed dependent).

Pentax lens profiles missing after LR 6.10 update

I did a quick little test after reading the above comments and I think @Medex has it correct. It turns out all of the K-S1 images were JPEG. (Note, I have not downloaded any additional profiles for LR).

I tested three lenses (one DA-L, one DA, and one DA Limited) on both cameras, in both JPEG and DNG formats. I then loaded them all into LR and checked to see if the Pentax lens profiles and corrections were available. Results below.

So it seems the LR update is not the issue after all, at least in my case. I'm not sure about the older LR versions that others have posted about.

The marketing is confusing in this regard. Two of the three "holy trinity" FF zooms lack the star(*) designation, but the new primes have it.

Hey @subsea, I think I just figured it out (sort of) after looking back at my older photos.

I recently got a K-S1 for my wife that I've been spending some time with myself. It looks like the lens profiles are not available on any of the photos taken with the K-S1, and this led me to think that Pentax profiles had been removed. Looking back at my K-50 photos, all the profiles are still there. I guess this means that K-S1 is not fully supported in LR?

Another interesting thing, there is a much bigger list of manufacturers that opens up when I look at the photos from the K-50. See below for comparison.

A little confusing  Not sure why the list would be different.

I updated my standalone (not CC) copy of LR recently which brought it up to v6.10. Now I'm seeing that Pentax is not even an option anymore under the lens profiles, and the lens auto-corrections are no longer available for any of my photos shot with Pentax gear.

Anybody else seeing this? I can't imagine that Adobe suddenly just dropped Pentax, so this must be a bug? It was working previously.

Hi Steve,

This bit got my attention and am looking for some more info. Does this mean that on my K-50, which is similar to the K-30, that I cannot expect to get sharp focus on somebody's eyes below f/5.6 (at least not with the OVF)? It might explain some of the unsharp portraits I've gotten despite being certain I had nailed focus or used a not-too-shallow DoF.

I don't think I've ever used magnified live view (looking it up now).

Nice shot!

Clicking it led me to your Flickr and I have to say I am really digging the way you capture the light in a lot of your outdoor / woods photos. It has a certain mood. If you don't mind me asking is there a specific time of day that you like to go out for those kind of shots?

I've seen this technique used by Tony Northrup and was also pitched as a means to go without ND filters (or at least a polarizer). Though in his example I think the frames were averaged in post, not on camera, and there were not as many.

Side thought: would ND filters not be cheaper in the long run, considering the heavy burden this puts on the shutter? You can only expect to take a few hundred photos like this before the body is kaput.

I wouldn't mind seeing PLM in the next generation of DA primes, but I'm not so sure about the Limiteds. If you think about it, the Limiteds are self-contained and more compact insofar as they don't require you to lug separate hoods that take up bag space. They'll ride along happily in a coat pocket or a small case, and all but disappear despite their heavier build.

If PLM detracts from that amazing quality of the Limiteds in any way I think it'll be a setback. The DA's can, IMO, afford to put on a little bit of mass without much complaint. People buy them for their cost first and foremost. Their lightness is marketed as a benefit (it is, caveat lens hoods) but it's really part of the cost savings.

Second attempt at processing #4.
Eased up on the crop.
Attempted to replicate @ddharriman's approach... brought down "ambient" and brought up faces with exposure adj brushes. Still needs some practice, but I like the technique.

A very dramatic difference @ddharriman! I can see how the added shadow gives more depth.

Is it just me or is the b&w conversion somehow sharper in addition to having that high contrast pop?

Apple computers rely on virtual memory, too, so "just get a Mac" is really not helpful ;)

The OP's computer is not broken or bugged in any way. He just needed to understand what was happening.

Thanks @Adam!

Regarding the 4th, I understand what you mean about the flatness, but I'm not sure if there would have been a better angle and/or crop for them? The problem is they're side by side, I think.
