@Merv-O: To be more specific, 2019 is the 100th anniversary of Asahi Optical, not of Pentax which is a model name that dates back to 1957.

The 60th anniversary of Asahi Optical was celebrated in 1979 with the announcement of the Pentax LX (LX = 60 in Latin); the camera itself was introduced in 1980.

Asahi Optical, renamed Pentax in 2002, merged with and into Hoya on 31 March 2008 and therefore ceased to exist.

In 2007 the 50th anniversary of Asahi Pentax was celebrated with a design study model based on Pentax K10D, the Asahi Pentax AP 50th Aniv. There was no such celebration organised by Ricoh in 2017 for the 60th anniversary of Pentax.

At Photokina 2018 Pentax Forums staff were told that Ricoh 'are looking forward to arranging the 100 year anniversary celebrations which will take place next year on a regional basis. We can expect work shops, tutorials, product announcements, and social media content. The intention is to not only portray Pentax in the historical light, but also as a brand reaching into the future.'

What 'product announcements' means in conjunction with 'celebrations taking place on a regional basis' remains to be determined.

The exact quote would be: 'We are now starting to develop a new DSLR which can be positioned as the successor to the K-3 series.'

Concerning the tentative launch date of this new DSLR, if the above is not an unspecified future, I wonder what it is.

I presume it is since the Fujifilm GFX 100Megapixels, the development of which was announced at Photokina, includes sensor stabilisation.

As underlined by @thibs film 645 is 41.5x56mm. The closest to these dimensions in digital era is 40x53.4mm. Sony propose two such sensors: the older, front-side illuminated 100MP and the newer, back-side illuminated 150MP.

There are also two 33x44 Sony sensors: the older, front-side illuminated 50MP and the newer, back-side illuminated 100MP.

A 645C in 2019, C (100 in Latin) being both for centennial and for 100MP (33x44 BSI), would be nice but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

The Nikon Df supports any and all Nikon F lens ever produced since 1959 with no limitation whatsoever. Other modern Nikon cameras support all Nikon F lenses produced since 1977 (the so-called Ai lenses) with no limitation.

By comparison, the current Pentax cameras support all lenses produced since 1975 with limitations (stop-down metering) for those produced before 1984 (before the A lenses).

No, but neither the Canon EOS 7D Mark II nor the Nikon D500 are listed as discontinued on their manufacturer's website.

The Pentax K-3 II, on the other hand...

He has very good insider information, including internal documents far ahead of the publication of the corresponding piece of information (e.g. the D FA★ 50mm f/1,4's optical construction or the picture of its ring-SDM motor).

I doubt that. Re-read asahi man's words: 'nearly all the development power is going into K fullframe SLR. Body and lens development (...) in 2 classes.'

That's the one from yesterday and I have already referenced it twice in this thread:

asahi man's post from yesterday (above) is in the continuity of the one he made on 11 September, also referenced and pasted in this thread. See below.

As apparent in this caption, that was a month ago. Note the 'in two classes'.

A clarification: it's the smc Pentax-DA L 18-50mm f/4-5.6 DC WR RE which is included in the two K-70 kits. (not the HD Pentax-DA 18-50mm f/4-5.6 DC WR RE.)

Sigma Interview Photokina 2018

I would, considering that Sigma are a family-owned company and very proud of it and Tamron have close links with Sony, which are their first client and second shareholder.

I wonder where 'Pentax does not seem to have enough manufacturing capacity' comes from, considering their Vietnam plant's output from seven years ago was around twice the current one.

Pentax (or rather Ricoh Imaging) are EBIT-driven, which impacts R&D and marketing spend and explains the current pace of new products.

All DA and D FA lenses, as well as some other lenses (e.g. D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6), have an AF/MF switch. It's in particular useful for trap focus.

This one has a focus clamp in addition to the AF/MF switch.
