How do you get out of a slump

For me, some cheap retro gear can be fun and change my perspective on familiar subjects.

Right now I'm trying to figure out a 5x7 view camera from the 1890's. I hope to be able to take some photos with it soon.

I also like to get the Helios 44 on my K mount bodies for some fun flare and bokeh. It can make a familiar subject seem new again. They are also cheap and plentiful.

An update on the CTR:
Jefe did get second and poor Liz had a mechanical in the last few miles. Her hub blew up to the point of the rear wheel no longer being able to spin so she tried to carry her bike the last 13 Miles and wound up quitting. Poor girl!
I bet she will be back with a vengeance!

Where to find tripod foot mount for DA* 60-250?

I have a Fanotech replacement foot that I'm planning to sell. LMK if you want it.

---------- Post added 08-14-18 at 10:21 AM ----------

That looks identical to the one I have and in some ways it's better than the OEM one but the foot part is a little small without a tripod plate attached.
It stays on a lot better than the original!

Whoops, yeah thanks! Maybe I didn't execute the post very well. I was out there for meteors which weren't that impressive so I did some fun shots too.

Thanks! I was after meteors but did this since I was hanging around shooting anyway. Got some meteors too but nothing very bright. I like to do these so I'm not coming home empty handed if my main shot doesn't come together like I was hoping.

Which lens should I use for shooting a running event?

My advice was based on my assumption that the event is outdoors in daylight. If it is indoors or at night you may just need to rent a 70-200/2.8 if it's longer shots that you want.
I have only shot some gymnastics indoors and it was really hard. I used a K-3 and 70-200/2.8 and had to use ISO 3200 and still had a tough time keeping the shutter fast enough.
Outdoors is much easier unless you get severe weather.

Are you concentrating on individual runners to sell them photos or are you covering the event for a media outlet?

If I was doing individual runner shots I might lean more toward the 50-200, especially if there is interesting background stuff to include.
The 16-85 would probably be better for wider shots of the crowd or the whole race at once.

Ideally, two bodies with one of those lenses on each one would be great. If you only have one body you might want to bring both in case you want some of each type of those shots.
If you can only have one lens the 16-85 is probably your most versatile option.

For me the HSS part is the draw. Action sports in bright sunlight is hard to do with a flash without HSS.

Well, yes. That guideline doesn't work for all distances/scenes. It's something you kind of get a feel for after a while.
Another way I think of it is about 1/3 of the distance between the closest and farthest thing I want in focus but if the foreground is very close, focus stacking would probably work better.

Jefe just got second on the CTR and I think Liz is going to be first woman later today. She is at mile 499 right now!
