Sorry to hear that the KP's focusing is giving you trouble. I never had any problem with the focusing abilities of the KP, I had that problem with the K-3 Mark II, but I could get over it. I prefer the KP over my K-3 Mark II. But all the Pentax's I have demand very good lighting. The only camera that is a bit more flexible in that respect is the K-01.

what lens is this

Certainly looks like an 18-55mm and it will say so on the bottom side if it is attached to a camera, or for that matter near the zoom ring. And last but not least it is usually printed on the front of the lens. This an early example of that lens and there is also a 18-55 WR, which is a great lens to complement a WR body. Might be a bit more expensive, but it is worth the money. It is indeed a decent zoom lens and I like(d) it a lot. Hope you can find one and surprise your fiancé's daughter!

I did not dare to suggest the 18-135, which is a very good lens for an affordable price, for the sake of not complicating things for you, but there it is, others did so I expand my answer to your question. It is also a small (relatively) lens compared to the 16-85mm. Both lenses will be a nice complement lens to the 55-300 she uses. Both lenses are weather resistant which I think is a plus if you own the K-70 or the K-3, in terms of image quality they are both a step up from the 18-55, this article might give some idea of both lenses https://www.pentaxforums.com/reviews/hd-pentax-da-16-85mm-f35-56/introduction.html . Hope this helps. And I think either of these would really surprise her.

Pentax A 400mm F/5.6 still a bargain at $260

And not only your 400 is a gem! I find the original A-series from Japan for the Super-A and its siblings amazing. I still have them and I just bought (for fun) the 28-80 Takumar A and the Pentax A SMC 35-70 f4. Both lenses amazed me, especially the 28-80 because of being a Takumar from Taiwan and the sometimes horrible reviews on the forum. A-series lenses are so easy to manually focus contrary to older M lenses I own. But on the Super A they were already amazing and on digital they are fabulous.

It certainly is different, but I had help from my K-3 Mark II. If I cannot find a menu item I take the older sister and kindly ask her what a certain menu item is called. Then return to the manual and can easily find it. A while back I downloaded the PDF copy and sometimes with question on the forum I looked it up for myself in either the Dutch or English version. The PDF's are a brilliant way to find things, sometimes it takes long, sometimes short, but I got there in the end. I did indeed update to the newest firmware, what I always do when acquiring a new camera. But I kindly took your sound advice and did it right-a-way.

Last year I said to myself: This KP is the last Pentax-branded camera I buy. But look at me now I just received a brandnew K-3 Mark III kit. The one of which I said "I am never gonna buy that one". Why, oh why? Well I noticed there is something going on with Ricoh/Pentax and I noticed that webshops just have a limited number of Pentax's in store and the kits are on sale to make room and are at the moment cheaper than the body only. The kit is the K-3 Mark III with the fabulous 18-135 lens. But not only this camera was on sale. So I bought myself the 31mm Ltd as well, that one arrived yesterday and I took it out and it is, well, a lens you have to get used to. It is a silver one and my new Mark III is a silver one as well, so it stands out to my K-3 II and KP.
The kit is now accumulating to room temperature and in a few hours I think I'll take it our for a stroll.

The second image is of a Katie feeling at home with her new friend...

Perhaps you never thought of this: You have the 18-55 WR and it is also usable as a macro (more or less). When I started out with my first DSLR I had the first version of the 18-55 and in the manual this feature was indicated. So I tried it out and it works. It is that part on the distance scale between 0.25m and 0.35m. And you can use that with all focal lengths of that lens. Many a time I have used this feature to make a kind of macro picture with this lens. You can experiment and maybe discover if a shorter focal length might work for you. What also is nice of that lens that the macro also works rather good with AF. I have an F 100mm macro lens and with AF it is a bit difficult and MF works better. With the 18-55 I tried both AF and MF and both gave good results.
Hope this helps.

Who is us? I do not think there is an "us". There is Ricoh (seller) and there is the photographer (buyer). And why competitive with Nikon (which announced cutting back on DSLR camera's)?

From earlier threads in which the statement from the CEO (or other important Ricoh person) it is clear that Ricoh will not make such a camera, they pledged that they would make old fashioned DSLR's and nothing of that modern stuff. There has been a lot about it on this forum. And you are probably the umpteenth person to begin about a K-1 Mark III. I'd rather would have a KP-FF . Or a K10d Mark II (with an upgraded CCD). But I dare not to suggest this on this forum preventing me from becoming a laughing stock.

But did you put that lens on any of your camera's? The three links illustrate the experience of other people and you can not base your conclusion on that.

Have you tried to clean the contacts in the battery housing? I sometimes have to with my Metz flashes. What batteries did you use? Sometimes with rechargable batteries Metz's are bit "sensitive".

I guess that your fellow Belgian means that it is strange that Ricoh should offer this thirdparty lens as "New item" in the Ricoh shop. It would raise some question marks with me as well. And Kamera-Express is not Ricoh... so, odd, YES!

Sony Tough SD HSii Cards - Quick Review

I thought it was a riddle, but the camera is likely to have been set to save images to both cards and then Mooncatt's explanation solves it. But a further riddle is that the UHSII card is faster than an original UHSI card. That seems unlikely so I guess the cards used are not comparable as to read and write speed. The UHSII in slot 2 is backwards compatible with UHSI and should behave like an UHSI card.

K-x firmware update

If you click the exe file it does not open up a program, the only thing it does is put the bin file in your download directory, which you easily might oversee. You get a warning about the exe file being incompatible with your windows system, but you can ignore that. Usually win32 is compatible with your 64bit system. And the bin file and readme text are probably somewhere in the list of your download directory. But Peter offered you a solution!

What am I doing wrong with the K3-mk iii?

I agree with you, I looked on the laptop and opened the RAW files and the only difference I see is that the colours with the K-3 III are less dull. I do not see any of the "faults" the OP describes, but these kind of pictures will never let the camera (any!) shine.

Pentax DA limited 21mm f3.2 and 40mm f2.8 or 20-40mm?

The 20-40 is a fabulous lens and for hiking: it is WR and silent focusing and it is not heavy. And as you have a WR body, it makes an outstanding combo! And I agree with UncleVanya: a 18-135 is also one to think of. I own that one as well and for the money it is a great lens and also WR and a silent one. I own the 16-85, but is has never been a lens that I grew fond of. For some reason I do not like it, I sometimes used it for the 16-18mm, but I bought a 11-18mm and have the wide end covered. The 16-85 is also a bit bigger. But I always come back to the 18-135. Good luck with deciding which one to buy.

The Escher Museum is really something different and it is the place to learn about perspective. I used to live and work in the Hague and the old head Postoffice in the Torenstraat used to have a large metamorphosis high on the wall in the public area.

I would not sell either RAW or JPEG, you should sell prints, not the original files.
