Deformed batteries

I had a Wasabi battery that swelled in my camera, i was able to remove it although it was a little snug. Trashed it right away and bought a Pentax battery and have had no problem since. The cheap batteries just are not worth the risk.

DA 21: defective?

I'm not sure how you are stopping the lens down to F/4.5 while looking through it? There is no aperture ring on the lens for manual aperture control and the lens remains wide open until the shutter is released. The only way would be to move the aperture lever with the lens off the camera and guess where the aperture is at.

Lens flare is normal with such bright lights directly in front of the lens. It shows up in different areas depending on the angle of the light source relative to the lens.

The faster your shutter speed gets in HSS the less flash output you will have so keep that in mind. I don't have a Pentax flash but my Sigma manual has flash charts showing the effective distance in HSS at different shutter speeds and apertures.

First off there isn't much dynamic range in the scene to begin with so the effect is minimal here. I believe HDR 1 gives a more natural look to the photo and HDR2 would give you a more surreal look. Try it out side in the daylight where you have some sky and landscape in the photo.

Should I upgrade my memory cards?

That would depend on the read and write speeds of the camera. I would look at the camera specs and match that for the best performance, it would be a waste of money going for a card faster than the camera.

Might try a polarizing filter if your not already using one? I also agree with an overcast day, that really helps to balance out the lighting and you can get your aperture opened up to reduce the diffraction.

I was wondering how the DA* 50-135 performs with the Pentax 1.4x converter? I'm planning on getting the DA* 300mm and the 1.4x converter and i'm curious how that works with the DA* 50-135.

Question? How does the 50-135 perform with the 1.4x teleconverter? Would this be an option? A 50-135 F/2.8 and a 75-200 F/4 with the converter.

I look at it this way, sooner or later you will probably end up with the K-1ii so save some money and just go ahead and get it if it fits your budget.

As mentioned before, if the lens extends and retracts while zooming in and out it must either breath air in or exhaust air out.
