Mac Laptop Needed for PP - Suggestions?

FWIW, I'm running Leopard with 4gb ram. I use CS5 and Aperture simultaneously and I don't notice any performance slow-down unless I've got multiple images with many layers on the go at once.

Hey, you can use the smudge or blur tool to remove the line.
Also, play around with curves and levels in the first instance. As far as skin smoothing goes there are several ways to go about it, I like the surface blur method on selected areas only, and always work in layers so you can adjust the opacity of layers as needed.

Pentax 12-24 vs Sigma 10-20

I've had both and ended up selling the 10-20 and keeping the 12-24.

I agree with Greg above, both are great and very capable - for me it came down to preferring the 24mm over the 20mm as I often leave the house with just one lens and the 12-24 is a much more versatile range...for me

Nah, a tiny park in north London called Waterlow - doesn't even appear on google maps! Right next to Highgate Cemetery where Karl Marx is buried.

Full sun. . . If your shooting in harsh sunlight I'd recommend getting a reflector like this: 43" 110cm 5-IN-1 Multi-disc Photo LIGHT REFLECTOR PANEL | eBay and having a friend to point it in flattering directions

nice shots - like the editing!

@FALKE - Wow, this really shows what I'm missing with my 12-24! Even on a quite featureless horizon the width is evident. . . Great shot

I can also recommend the DA 35 2.4 - it's the only one you can get new for that kind of money and it's a damn fine lens, I love it!
If you're willing to buy second hand, I've read good things about the Cosina 100mm macro, but it is obviously long. Should be good for portraits - looking to get one myself.

Agreed. The second shot is focused on the hair - make sure you use center point focus so you know what's happening.
My copy of this lens is the sharpest lens I own, even at 2.4, and i've got a fair few reputable lenses... and auto-focus is bang on with my k-x. Really outstanding for the price.

I wouldn't be too hasty sending in for service unless you're really sure what's going on.

Here's a shot I took yesterday with this lens, and at f/2.4...

Thanks for the comments... I'm really pleased with the DA-L 35mm - easily the sharpest lens I own, even more so than the F-50 1.7 and M-50 1.7 - I'm really amazed with its performance, especially with the cost!

Those little coloured balls were just lying around from the neighbours kids, so we just went with it!

Was planning to shoot inside as the weather's been hit and miss, but as Liza arrived the sun came out so we did the whole shoot right there in my yard!
Such a pleasure as she's so relaxed and easy to photograph:D

K-x back focusing

Marc, I hear ya, it's just that my M50 1.7 is tack sharp in the center open wide. My F50 appears just as sharp through the viewfinder, but the shots come out back focused. Whether I use AF of manual makes no difference, so it can't be that the camera is choosing to focus elsewhere.

I'll try and muster up the patience to do one of those controlled focus tests, but I'd far rather be out shooting!

So I can power up the camera in 2 different modes? Or do I need to enter debug mode every time I change between lenses and adjust the setting?

Yep, very frustrating, I've decided to sell the lens as I cant justify a body upgrade any time soon. A real pity as I really love the lens. Back to my M-50, sharp as a razor!

I'm keeping my eye open for another copy, or I may grab a DA 40 instead...

Twitch, can't you use a remote?

K-x back focusing

Hi, thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

That debug mode would be great if it was a general problem, but I've tried every other lens I own and they all nail the focus perfectly. As much as I love having a fast 50, it's not quite worth throwing my other lenses out for!!

Marc, I was very conscious of the DOF being so shallow, and that was my first thought. However I also have an M50 1.7 which focuses perfectly wide open, both by eye (20/20 vision me!) or using catch in focus... I've done some (uncontrolled) tests with a few lenses at once of the same scene and it's definitely just the new F 50 that misses. It is really sharp, but not in the center - always behind!

I assume that if I enter the debug mode and adjust the back focusing that it will apply to every lens I use, therefore making all my other lenses front-focusing?!?

Is there any way to adjust the lens itself to correct this, or is that a job for the service center?

K-x back focusing

Hi all, I recently got myself an F50 1.7 which is undoubtedly a very nice lens. However as soon as I stuck it on my k-x I noticed that the center of the shot was always out of focus. I always use the center focus point.

I uploaded the shots onto my computer for a closer look and sure enough every single shot is focused slightly behind where I was actually focusing!

I searched here and there are plenty of threads (usually regarding front-focusing) but very few for the K-x.

All my other lenses focus perfectly so it really is only this one lens. I then tried it on my friends K20d and exactly the same thing! But alas my k-x has no focus adjustments that I can find - is there anything I can do, or is this a quirk I need to learn to live with and try and work around? I really love the lens otherwise!!!

Thanks, Az
