I would agree with Ishpuini, go wide in Machu Picchu, vary impressive, you will probably need you k3 with flash, lots of indoor cathedrals, churches, local stuff, I would take your 10-17, 50 for indoors and your 55-300, that is about as light as it gets

that is well said, as we all know, the expectations of new camera's are never ending, so many expect to be able to take pictures in pitch back and have the auto focus system be dead on..... I wander how many remember what it was like to shoot with film,,, everyone should do it, using manual modes..... then they will realize were we are today. Pentax has been a leader in technology for a long time, coming out with innovating products.. I just hope that they continue to get enough product sold to allow them to be who they are..

you could try looking for a Tokina AT-X FA 80-400mm F4.5-5.6, I went through several lens looking for something that worked for me..without spending $700-800 or more . They are quite sharp, mine out to 400 although some say theirs starts to soften around 350 . fairly compact , nice felt lined hood, metal so it is a little heaver than the plastic ones..but nothing like the big sigma's .. .cost would be around your budget..not real common but you can find them..

look under lens reviews in this forum

fyi: shoot with a k3

4k External Monitor

The 4k is refresh rate and will have no impact on your still photo editing, you have Intel built in display chip,,, so it is what it is,,, no upgrades there.

Look for IPS monitor, it will give you a better "angle of view:" for the monitor... that way you can be off center a little and still see the color correctly... for photo editing sRGB is needed. See if the monitor you are looking at says it will cover the full color range. ... AdobeRGB is the best but will cost you,, $$$$$ so go for the sRGB
If it is not calibrated when you get it you will need to... to get the color correct.... Especially if you want to print from your printer and get the same colors ( this is an iffy proposition, it may take some work to get the two to look the same,,, but you need to start with correct color in the monitor .

---------- Post added 07-21-17 at 12:20 PM ----------

forgot to mention,,, a lot of monitors will not even cover the sRGB color profile... so read carefully about what they say... :) IF they don't mention it, they probably don't even come close ...

go down to your local $ store and by a pool noodle, cut about a foot off of it, and then using a pair of scissors or a knife cut a slit down its length. Now you can slide it onto the window, it will stay there and you can rest the camera or lens on the noodle, light and cheep, never had an issue with one..
And you can pick your color......

What's Your Experience With AFFINITY PHOTO Professional photo editing software?

For the price, yes, buy it,
Intro comment- I do not do a lot of heavy editing, like creating an image, I only work on the ones I shoot, so there are some who would still be better off with photoshop, and you have to learn how to use affinity, so if you are used to photoshop, elements, etc.. it my be a little frustrating since things go from a little different to a lot different, And if you do 3d then affinity is out, they don't do it.
I used the Bata for about a month, it had speed issues, locked up sometimes, some functions did not work correctly, but is was bata. I have to say that affinity worked through the issues very fast. On the issue thread site they responded to customers ( a novel idea) and fixed things. SO, I bought the release version. Much faster, I have seen no bugs in what I do but a few have been reported some issues. IF you go to their web sight and go to photo for windows you can see what is going on.
You have to watch every tutorial you can find to see how to do some things,,, they need a manual (they are working on it)

Why did i buy it:
-very good customer support through bata,
-I like the way the layers work in affinity, vs Photshop
-Everything is there, including HDR, pano, photo stacking, I have only used the pano, so far it works fine... but i have not presented any really tough stitching yet. IF I have to I can use ICE, but...
-As for the Personas, they are what they are, you have to move through them, yo would start with the raw editor if you shoot in raw and then develop it, move to the photo persona were everything else is done, save the finished work. There is also a persona for saving in different formats and sizes. Easier than moving from lightroom-photoshop-ICE-etc.
-In raw it works in 32bit color- vary large color window...I know, my monitor can not see that.. but allows you to push everything to see what you would get
-ALL updates and revs are FREE, when they make it better you get it.

The bad:
-you have to change a setting every time you open up the software and use RAW to get rid of the raw presets, they drive clipping when you adjust. PITA, they need to change that ( found that in a tutorial) did I mention to watch all the tutorials you can find..
-Lightroom is still a better raw editing tool, but this is rev 1 of affinity, and it is close, it will get better
-Did I say You have to watch every tutorial you can find to see how to do some things,,, they need a manual (they are working on it)

Because it is Two sided: It requires creativity and technical knowledge

I can use my logical brain to do all the math and figure out DOF, aperture setting etc. And I can use my creative brain to find the right lighting, scene, image. And then go home and look at what I have created and say: that is soooo cool.

Affinity Photo raw beta for windows

I agree, I think I stated that incorrectly, I don't think they will abandon it as a stand alone, they for sure will add new cameras, I wander if they will add all the cc updates to the stand alone, all the new capabilities, They crippled Elements with 8 bit color processing for most functions to protect PS,
I think they will do the same type of thing with lightroom standalone, to drive cc, they may not, But time will tell, If you are not using PS now then Affinity may be a good option,,, IF you use PS then maybe not... I like lightroom, used it for a long time and I am new to Affinity, so far There are a few things Lightroom does that affinity does but it requires masks. A few more steps, but I get the PS capability along with the raw capability. all at 16 bit color depth. without having to by PS or go to cc.

Affinity Photo raw beta for windows

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but Affinity photo has released their raw/photo suite - for windows. It is Bata only while they find bugs and update, so far I have only found 1 issue, its known,,, so if you are looking for a Lightroom replacement light me, give it a try.... I'm not paying for a monthly subscription and as Adobe continues to improve their cc version of lightroom , Lightroom 5 will get no new updates, and slowly become old.....

Affinity web sight ;

Affinity - Professional creative software

FYI. I have been trying on1 photo, but their new on1 raw release will not work with my video card. so they are out... Yes I know, i could buy a new computer, but everything else works just fine, soooo why?

COMPLETE Newbie/Beginner - Question About Tamron AF 90mm Macro f/2.8 Di SP

welcome Ladygoodman, I have had the Tamron, DFA 90mm and FA 90mm, and also the Sigma EX 105, all 4 are very sharp, you will have no complaints about that.
Ok, so I tried them all :) I still have the Sigma 105

the Difference,
-The Sigma and Tamron both have a push/pull system for manual/auto focus, I don,t mind it but some do, personal preference
-The new Pentax FDA wr is weather sealed, that is a good thing, but you can not control the aperture, it is auto only and I like to be able to control it, not all the time, but sometimes..
- The DFA (older) has aperture control
- The older Fa feels cheap, like all FA's, but work well
-One more, The clamp on the DfA and FA does not work all that well, ( at least on the ones I had) I prefer the limit switch on both the Tamron and Sigma.

All that said, All of them are sharp, and would serve you well. Isn't nice to have choices

I would agree with lithedreamer
77mm is a great choice, you can use step down rings to get you to any lens, or step up if you are not to much bigger
B&W and Hoya make great filters - either would serve you well

In my bag -

B&W 10-stop ND - water falls, streams etc
B&W 5 stop ND - for stacking or flash, less or more dreamy water
Hoya CPL - sky, lake reflections etc.

I use a Vanguard 48gr, looks like a back pack, not a camera bag, will hold all your gear + has a rain cover, plus some clothing, and a sleeve for camel back type water bag. it is a little over your $100 budget, you may be able to find one on ebay for a $150...

On1 Photo Freezing, Hanging, Not Responding

Haze is well worth the price, even if it slows down, You must have a desk top,,, unfortunately even if I upgrade to a newer laptop I wont get 32gig of ram.. But the real issue is the PITA of having to reload everything. So I will see if it works better by making the files smaller, If anyone gets the raw converter let me know if it makes a difference. Their support implied that if you went to on1 10 after the raw converter you wold still have to deal with the file sizes. WIll see

On1 Photo Freezing, Hanging, Not Responding

Ok,,, First, on1 has given me great support in trying to figure out why it is slow, first answer was reload, i think we have all heard that one,,, did it, they sent me a uninstall file,,, worked much better, not hanging but still slowwwwww, the next was my video driver was not good enough,, OK, my laptop is 4 years old but, I'm running an i5, 8gb ram, 256m video ram, 740g hard drive 750rpm, windows 10, and yes a monitor for photo work.. so it is not an old tired machine...Next when you save a file using PSD on1 does not flatten the layers like PS does, so your file sizes are anywhere from 250M to 400M, the more you do with it the larger it gets... So I'm going to try flattening them when I'm done, and if I need to do more then so be it.. I will see if it will make things faster ..Or I maybe just save them as a tiff...I'm not an expert in PC,s so this may do nothing. but worth a try, I have also read on another on1 blog a lot of complaints about file size and speed. They say they are working on it...
