Worked on Ubuntu Bionic, using the latest winetricks from Winetricks - WineHQ Wiki (it's just a shell script)

Also had to set the Windows Version in winecfg, after .net install

$ WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine32 winetricks

$ WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine32 winecfg

Mac OS: app or plugin for editing EXIF?

This will change the Lens ID, not the focal length. Lens ID in this case should remain "A Lens" or "K or M Lens"

Mac OS: app or plugin for editing EXIF?

Even with Exiftool command line tool working on Mac (which is possible) it will be tricky to correct the EXIF data.

Pentax Tags

This lists three (3) relevant EXIF tags that store the focal length. "0x001dFocalLength", "SRFocalLength" for Shake Reduction, and "LensFocalLength", an extra record that keeps all Lens information.

Note that the first tag requires a 32 bit integer and the other two only a 8 bit integer, usually meaning "35mm" is differently encoded.

It helps to create a DNG file with the correct expected values using the camera, than compare the three EXIF tags and copy the values over.

If this is not changed correctly in all 3 places, it's very likely that applications reading the EXIF tags will misbehave.

Do make copies of any DNG files, before changing.

Note, the command line "dcraw" tool can extract the 3 raw images from the HDR-DNG file as separated TIFF's. After that any HDR Software should be able to work with that.

Using pixel shift resolution instead of longer exposure can also lead to some very green "glitchy" effects. Only shows up in the rendered JPEG inside the DNG. Possible also with HDR, haven't tried that yet.

Why all that categorical denial when it can be a great economical option?

I also had an existing 80mm 1.9 sekor c and adapted it on K-1. It puts all my other lenses to shame, even the Tamron 90mm SP, in terms of sharpness. I don't need to buy any new fancy 85mm 1.4 Superstar, I'm very happy with this.

business - vs - being creative?

To add some unpopular opinions, i find that money (and social media) mostly corrupts the art process, so i have never done photos for money and every single photo i shared on the web is under Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license. Yes i am fine with random people editing my photos, Yes i do not want them to use it for commercial purposes and Yes i do not plan to ever make money from my photos.

The point is, when i am out there in the middle of a beautiful moss covered forest, i don't have to think about what a client wants, or if the Internet will "like" it.

All i am asking myself is "how do i capture the mood and atmosphere of this place, how do i capture the beauty here?". It's as much creative freedom as i can get.

I have a 3 day 9-5 office job that just pays the bills, but i also have a 4 day weekend, that gives me plenty of time to make photos. I value that freedom and extra time in my life a lot more than any amount of money.

Not everybody can constantly spent that much money on a hobby. I did get a K-1 because i had "some" bucks spare, but since then i am happy using a $40 PK-M 135mm on it.

Hugin takes a moment to get used to, but works great. I convert all DNG to TIFF first, load them in Hugin, enter focal length! click "Align" and let Hugin do the magic. Hit Autocrop on "Crop" tab, align your main subject to the center in the "Move/Drag" tab and click "straighten" if needed. Maybe hit auto crop again and then "create panorama".

I avoid fiddling manually with the displayed images.

This will report the number of RAW images embedded in a DNG (not previews/thumbnails).

Code:

 $ dcraw -i -v FILE.DNG

This will "develop" individual RAW data as 3x 16 bit TIFF images, before the HDR merge.

Code:

 $ dcraw -s all -w -T -6 FILE.DNG

"The banding happens when the color space is reduced to 8bit". Whatever that is for JPEG or TIFF doesn't matter. 12/14 bit color information's are transformed/reduced to 8 bit, which is a smaller range of possible colors. This alone is causing the banding in the sky gradient.

JPEG compression artifices are a different issue. The "100%" indicates quality, but there still IS information loss. JPEG even at 100% is NOT lossless compression. Use TIFF for print, even if the file size is double the RAW file size.

Depends on the printer, ask them, check the support page/FAQ. Note, banding is related to compression, but even a "100%" JPEG will show banding. RAW data is usually 12 or 14 bit. Ensure the TIFF is really 16/32 bit, because TIFF supports 8/16/32 bits. A 8 bit TIFF will show the same banding.

Can you upload Tiff images? The banding happens when the color space is reduced to 8bit for jpeg. Prints from 16/32 bit tiff should not have banding.
