YN560-IV and YN560-TX - Pentax compatibility

Thanks for this thread. I am just before the purchase of set.

YN 560 TX (Nikon) + 2x YN 560IV for original K5. What I am intending to do is to trigger shutter with IrRC for long exposure where at the beginning or end I should have flash firing. Both flashes are of camera. Eventually I hope to trigger shutter and manually at my will to triger flashes. That should all work, no?

If the camera does not see the flash, and its more than 1/180 as long as I keep speed of camera and flash the same, would this be ok?

Thank you and greetings.

You mean by some gel or some cap? I would need strong and short as I would like to have some distance between place light is falling and flashgun.

Thanks.

Hi all there thanks for help and for the time. Sorry for delayed answers I have been traveling on last moment over 3 country and it its toll. Apologies once again and I will be very helpful if you would come back to me.

Please did you get P-TTL with Yongnuo or HSS, so to speak? Also please do you know their triggers and support? What I am after is, that if I buy into their system, if they would have a tendency to add more brands into compatibility. I am also interested for instance that if I get an Canon flash or Nikon one from friend, if I am able to use it in set up.

What I want to achieve is following:

1. Outdoor & indoor scenes
2. Backround naturally lit, if there are moving objects, create blur this should be naturally lit (and more or less even according to ambient light)
3. Long or relatively long exposure
4. Where I have a fast moving subject and need perfect freeze
5. Having this freeze done multiple times in 1 exposure
6. Hid flashguns into scene and let them go off in (kind of ) sequence
7. Where I am able to control strength of flashes and their order
8. Strong separation between background kind of very dark, more or less evenly lit, color deep, heavy, dark and brightly lighted separated subject, which might have its own light surrounding (aka falloff light from flashgun on background)

Hi,
well - its not disappointing, but rather waking up.

I am interested in full manual (lot of work, but dont mind to learn).

Why do I need P-TTL for HSS. I thought that in Manual I can decide speed, it just had to trigger on time - or where I am wrong.

Even I can set flash manually for half strength - it just half time. Is it for all flashes - including Pentax ones?

Its only Pentax Flashes supporting second curtain?

Aokatec - looks rather interesting.

Do you think I can put in various channels various brands of flashes?

I do not really have money to buy AF 360 or 540. There is out there AF 280 for cheap, but I am not really willing to buy in case I can not force it do to what I want it to do.
I would go generally in M mode.
Also I am wondering what will happen with "color/tone" of light mixing 2 various brands of flashes.

Hi there,

I am having a particular projects coming up and I need to use flashguns. As I am new into flash techniques I tried to learn and collect bits and pieces of information in order to make a decision, but somehow I did not manage to come to conclusion as there are techniques I don't understand. Therefor I explain a little for what I want to achieve and please if you can advice me, whats possible and effective.

I am looking to create some shots on long or longer expositions with highlights. In these highlights I would need to freeze movement - but really freeze, so I would like to have flash going off by 1/600 or optimally 1/1000 of a second. I am thinking to have flashes from different places as camera and optimally to have 4-5 flashes.

I have K5 and set of lenses. As I am artist, I am on budget by default, so what I was thinking:

K5 + wireless triggers / or master wireless flash + set of 2 - 5 flashes in maximum 4 groups
- each set with its own settings (different strength and if possible I would like to experiment with speed/time of flash in different groups)
- as I do not have lot of money, I will look for second hand and 3rd party
- please if you have a good idea of 3rd party, let me know. I was thinking Yongnuo, for triggers Cactus, Elinchrom? (does it go cheaper?)
- I would like that triggers in M mode can trigger various brands of flashes, so for instance old Pentax,Nikon, Yongnuo...(if its possible as I will be also lending some stuff)
- if possible that it can have control over flashes like Pentax AF200 - but also its strength and speed (if that's even possible)

Thank you for your help in advance!

As I am fairly beginner in flash photography, does this mean, that:
with V6 I can use different brand flashes together, including flashes which was not originally dedicated to Pentax?
that for instance Pentax AF 200 FG?
Thanks a lot!

The video quality is impressive....

Please, may I ask which lens did you use - what light set up, any lens hood? Did you PP video in terms of coloring? I would be happy to achieve this on my K5, to be honest.

Hmmm: I talk about: Austria, Germany, France, Nethelands, Belgium, Slovakia, Czech rep. and and others.... There is still huge problem with service which rules out Pentax for lot of distributors as well as with customer support. Albeit it got better. If Ricoh wants to succeed whether with APS-C or FF in EU, they have to solve this problem rather fast and have a street price at retailers max. at level of Canikon. ... my 2c. of experience...

But I am more interested in MILC concept for Pentax - and opinions...

Slow-I shoot dance performances and thats generally dark and fast. I struggle more with ISO performance than AF. Bit fidly but shooting with prefocusing, Dof and and hyperfocal does it for me. Close to total dark most of AF systems have problems.

Did not find option with reliable good results.

My primary use is video. Thanks!

Not bad. ;) Except I never switched the system. As Pentax had a severe limitations in video - yes, I was questioning why I did not pick Canon. Its annoying to have lenses and not to be able to adapt them, cause its Pentax. Its annoying to not to be able to hack camera cause its Pentax and its limitations, while as stills they are marvelous. Its annoying to pay extra cause its Pentax and has much less 3rd party support or its expensive as well as its difficult to just get it in EU.

I have to use dedicated video - film camera and got my Black Magic Pocket for 460, 3 month old with 1 use under belt. It serves well as small semi-pro camera I can take anywhere and get lot out of it. I wish I could find good focal reducer for my FA 20-35 and use it on BMPCC.

But as any investment I do in/for future has to be versatile, cost effective and light. I was shooting campaign for dance fest. on lent A7 recently and it was great experience - not just sensor, but whole set is great. To be fair, my K5 hold the ground and I do not care what I shoot on as soon as I can get what I need with good quality.

Hi, as I am new in flashes and has a particular project please:
Is there possibility for faster shutter speed than 1/180? (I work with movement)
What is HSS?
Can you suggest me cheap, but powerful system with optimally 3 flashes? I can expose manually, but at least one flash needs to be fairly strong - its for outdoor.
Thanks.

For K1 - it was a pitty that it ended in this way.

For a MILC, probably there would need to be a new mount, but I guess there is not much more way to get smaller than A7s - and that's not that bad, less you have really long zoom. I will be happy to spare space and weight and getting rid of mirror box and pentaprism would be already a big benefit to me.

You have wonderful images on 500px.

I am coming from point that all FF lenses can be adopted on MILC. I am not sure for size of K mount - but I do not think A to E mount is much smaller though.
If there would be a good video functionality (which should not be an issue nowadays), there would be opportunity (besides smaller lenses) for multipurpose adapter (AF,ND,POL) and therefor to create smallish and truly versatile camera.

I honestly love design of K01 - but could not justify cause I have already K5 and there was not much of a win, except of design as well as I could not justify another system, since I have semipro film cam.

I was not aware of XS prototypes - would you mind to share a link?

As I was researching some stuff I stumbled upon interesting video on opinion that FF DSLR might be obsolete to FF MILC. I wonder if Pentax would be also considering this and if we would get FF MILC (one day :)) - especially since Pentax has none at the moment.

I know that DSLR vs. MILC is heated discussion with lot of pro and cons, but as Pentax is late catching CANIKON FF, do you think they would be catching up on Sony as well? Would that make sense?

Personally, I am ready to drop the mirror, but I wonder if there is interest by Pentaxians for FF MILC.

Either way, I am looking forward for FF as I am still happily using K5 and ready to swap to FF when comes the time.

It was very, very foggy. Its one of the ports - which is not used only for research, so there comes the statue - not so far is a place for sealions as well, so they work together. There is plenty of fauna.
