Hello all!
I'll be in Detroit for a few days for business travel, and may have some time for shopping. I'm thinking about a Sigma 10-20, or Tamron 10-24 or maybe a flash unit. Couldn't find any "known" retailer in the area, can anyone help me indicating a place I may find what I'm looking for?
Thanks
Stefano.

Any chance I could work on the MF Vivitar/Kyron 100mm F2.8? That has lots of interesting points... One more note: I am definitely willing to write my best review, but I may get too busy to be actually able to write it, how bad would that be?

Sigma 17-70mm DC Macro or 18-125mm DC for Street Photos?

I would agree with SpecialK, a 28mm corresponds to a 42mm in 35mm cameras, which is much closer to a "normal" than a true wideangle, I guess that the good price could be son of a kind of unusual positioning for a zoom lens. Maybe (just thinking out loud, and if sharpness is good enough, I don't know) it could be a "flexible" option instead of a prime in the 50-70ies?

I'm a happy user of the 17-70 too... I've been to Canada for vacation last summer, and shot 1900+ photos, 90% of which with this lens (the others with a 100-400). But also in general, I use this lens most of the time and especially between 30 and 50mm it's wonderfull! (For a macro shot of a bee you can check my introduction, other shots -mostly with this lens- you can find in my gallery here at pentaxformus: User Photo Gallery - Uploads Posted By Sthan)

Guide to HDR?

Am I right if I say that changing only exposure bias is de facto acting AFTER the light has hit the sensor and therefore we are not increasing the DR but only overlaying the same image just one brighther than the other? But I'm sure that working in aperture priority it will change the exposure time and therefore acting on the image BEFORE any camera processing. This way we really have two different readings of the same image, each one with a dinamic range centered in a different area of a light intensisty axis (and CCD responsiveness) and then really providing us with information we can use for and extended dynamic range.
Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks guys, in the meanwhile I found (and bought) one (the Cosina, which comes with the lens hood). Ok it's not a GREAT lens, but sharpness is not too bad and especially the general colour impression is very good (sorry for the word choice, I'm pretty sure it doesn't explain the point. To make an example, I also own a Sigma 70-300 non-APO, and even if sharpness could be comparable, the colours definetely don't... the Sigma looks kind of "artificial", don't know how to explain it better...)
This is a rose taken at 210mm with the Cosina F 5,6 ISO 100 1/1000.

Hi,

anybody there has ever seen one of these lens sold in Europe? I can find some in e-shops in USA, but none in Europe, new nor used ones.

Basically I'm looking for a nice lens in that range, even manual focus, as my Sigma 70-300 is .... "ok";), but at the long end.. well... seen better ones.

This 100-400 had good comments and the cost is reasonable, so...

Any suggestion/ideas?

Many thanks!

Sthan.

Ciao JC!
I'm from the north of Italy, Parma, close to Milan (and not far from turin... ;-) ). Yes, the camera was handheld.
(By the way, it wasn't aperture priority, as I wrote, it was the "TAv", with ISO max set to 200)

I'm a happy owner of a wonderful K10D since last october. Why K10D? Well.. after a couple of months of searches, I found out that it was (at that time at least) the only DSLR below 1K (869 with 18-55) with weather sealing, 10.2 Mp and shake reduction IN the body (yeah... my hand ain't that stable...).
Here attached small version of my last favourite: a crop of a bee on a bush's flowers right in front of my door. (souds easy, but it took MANY shots to get this one...). K10D, SIGMA 17-70; 70mm; f 7,1; 1/800; ISO-200, Aperture priority.
