I found an open box copy on Amazon for $62 a few days ago. Would be great if they price match for a BNIB though. I didn't know they did that.

Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 IF ED MC Super Wide-Angle Lens for Pentax Asking Price
320 USD Item Location
Odessa, Texas (United States) Item Description
I have a nearly new Rokinon 14mm Wide angle lens for sale today. It has been used to capture maybe 10 images. Mounted only once. Asking $320. I believe they can be found new at Amazon for $380. I will accept any reasonable offers and possibly trades like the Tamron 90mm 1:1 Macro or similar. Open to anything though really. Sorry about the quality of the images. I'm sort of embarrassed to post them here. ;) The spots on the outside of the lens are actually texturing. Not sure if that comes across in the photos. Thanks for looking!

Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro Asking Price
$270 USD Item Location
Odessa, TX Item Description Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro This lens is in perfect condition. It has no scratches or blemishes of any kind. Includes original front and back caps, hood, box, and manual. Will also include original purchase receipt which will allow you to utilize the full Sigma warranty if it is ever needed. I received this lens less than a week ago and really like it but realized I would rather have a prime for a class that I am taking. So if you have a DA 35mm F2.4 or some A primes + some cash we could probably make a deal. The box isn't pictured but it will be included. I will also include a 72mm UV filter shown in the pictures. It is brand new and has no scratches or blemishes of any kind. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have. I will try and return PMs promptly. Price is negotiable. I'd like to not lose too much money for only having it a week but I also understand that after shipping and haggling I am likely to lose a bit and that's ok with me. So, don't hesitate to make a reasonable offer. Here's the details on this lens: 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro - Standard Zoom Lenses - SigmaPhoto.com
The product details list this lens as being able to focus up to 8 inches away from the subject but I was able to take many low light AF images of my face nearly resting on the hood. That's just a couple of inches away. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Pentax DAL 18-55mm Kit lens Asking Price $35 Shipped Item Location
Odessa, TX Item Description
This is the DAL 18-55mm kit lens. I purchased it with the K-r in mid February. It has very minimal use. I generally had the 50-200mm on or a Tammy 90mm so this just sat in the bag. Will include a Tiffen UV filter as well as both original caps. Will also include a cheap Chinese IR remote that works like a champ if requested. This lens will ship same day it is purchased if before 3pm. Thanks for looking,

975 takes it all, ToGo. Last shutter count was 4239. I'm taking a photography class atm though so there may be a few more before it ships to someone. I gotta say too, it looks MUCH cleaner and nicer in person than in the pics.

Pentax K-r, 18-55mm kit, 50-200mm kit, Tamron 90mm f/2.8 1:1 Macro lens Asking Price
See Description Item Location
Texas Item Description Edit:// For the time being I am going to keep this as a full package deal. I have some interest elsewhere as a package so until that falls thru lets keep it all together. Thanks again for looking! Selling my K-r body with all original packaging, manuals, battery, charger and everything else that it came with new plus a remote. Also selling the two kit lenses; both the DAL 18-55mm and DAL 50-200mm. Also for sale is a Tamron AF 90mm F/2.8 Di 1:1 macro lens. The Tamron comes with a carry bag, both caps, original box/manuals and hood. All of this stuff is only a few months old and in mint condition. I unfortunately am changing systems while I am still new because my dad and brother both have Nikon systems and I can leech a lot of their lenses and whatnot if I had a d90 or something similar. I would love to sell this all as one big package but I know how you guys are so splitting it up is definitely an option. I would really like to keep at least one kit lens with the body for a few days though if possible. See prices below:
K-r(body only with box, charger and manual etc..): $515 shipped CONUS
K-r with the 18-55mm kit lens: $565 shipped CONUS
K-r with both kit lenses: $650 shipped CONUS
Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Macro 1:1: $360 shipped CONUS
Pentax Sling Bag: $30 shipped CONUS
If somebody buys the whole lot I will sell it for $975 shipped and throw in an almost new Manfrotto monopod for free dollars as well.
If these prices look way outta whack to you, feel free to PM me and let me know why. I basically used google shopping and fleabay to see what the lowest prices were new and went lower. I realize it is an ever changing market with these things so i will listen to any reasonable argument. Would prefer it to be in PM though. Thanks for looking,
-Casey
These photos were taken with my Evo 4G so forgive the quality. If you would like more images feel free to ask.
Also, the camera and two lenses were purchased in the beginning of January of this year and I have looked and can't find a scratch anywhere on anything. The Tamron lens was purchased in Mid February and is also perfect.

Those are some great images. I'm new to DSLRs, and SLRs for that matter, as well and my first attempts are not turning out nearly as well. :) I have a nice new macro lens to play with tho so hopefully I will be able to get a few interesting pics at least.

Yeah, good point. I am really disappointed. Especially since I am about to buy a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens. I'm afraid it is going to magnify the problem. :(

I think the Nikon D70 had a mass back focus issue. I could be wrong as I haven't checked my sources as of this writing. My sources being my own memory, of course.

I'll have you know I had a blast making my photo chart box with my son's stick glue and round scissors! lol :) For me though, I was really only trying to decide whether I was going to blow a bunch of cash on lenses now or later. I'm a tech guy so getting to know my camera in a nerdy way is sort of fun. But, you are right. I'm taking a photo road trip this weekend. :)

The instructions on that particular FF test say to fill the frame with the page. I wasn't trying to prove anything just wanted to share my personal tests for help interpreting them before I spend another 1k on lenses. Apparently my tests are somewhat offensive though so I will continue on my own. ;) Thanks for the help so far though.

I went from 100mm to 45mm. At 18mm on my current tripod I cannot get any closer to the chart. :) I will try to reposition later this evening to see what happens.

I'm getting ready to buy a 28mm 1.8 and possibly a fast 100mm macro lens. I'd really like to know if my camera is going to have the issue or rather how bad it is going to be before i spend the money. Here's a shot with ronnie and the 18-55mm. Thanks again. Here goes:
45mm with 18-55mm lens, iso 200, tungsten light w/ tungsten wb, Av mode, f/5.6, 0.4" shutter speed. Attachment 83198
edit:// just noticed I wasn't at the 45 degree angle I should have been. Disregard. Will repost momentarily.
edit2:// ok reposted with better line-up.

Hey guys. I want to start by saying that I am a complete noob to Pentax and photography in general. I have the K-r and the 2 kit lenses (18-55 and 50-200). I did a test using Tim Jackson's chart and I am not sure if it shows front focusing or not. Please see below. Is this an accurate enough test? Is there another chart and instructions I should use? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
50-200mm, f/4.5, Av mode, ISO 200, shot at 100mm. Pretty dim tungsten light. Focused on old Ronnie's face/neck area. Attachment 83188 |

Mine came with the DA L 18-55mm and the DA L 50-200mm.
I may be putting my nearly new K-r in the marketplace soon with a pentax sling bag, the 2 lenses and a manfrotto 679b monopod and qr head. All of which are in mint condition for about $800, i think. That's just a guess but at any rate i wouldn't rule out the used market if your still looking.
Alternatively you might consider just buying a new body and choosing a better walking around lens than the 18-55. I almost never use it as i really like the 50-200. You could probably get the body and a nice 3rd party lens for the same price or at least close as the kit.

Here are a couple of shots with the K-r and the 50-200mm kit lens. I'm a complete photography n00b in keeping with the title of the OP. :) The first shot I think is at iso 800 for no good reason. It was broad daylight. I was testing some iso stuff earlier and forgot to reset it before it was taken. ;)
edit:// forgot to mention no pp if it wasn't obvious. Any criticism/advice is appreciated. Attachment 83041 Attachment 83042 |

Compare the Nikon D5000 vs Pentax K-r
I love this site. It helped me choose the k-r over the t2i. Although in the comparison the t2i seemed to tromp the k-r when you look closely the popularity/local availability issue and the 1080p video are really high scoring factors and neither mattered to me.
The above comparison shows why the k-r is a better choice.
