Item for Sale
SMC Pentax-M 135mm f3.5 Prime Lens

Asking Price
$55.00

Item Location
San Francisco, CA

Item Description
Very, very nice example of a vintage lens. It looks almost new. The markings are vibrant and intact. No dust or scratches at all on the glass or underneath the element. No oil on the blades. Aperture works properly. Focus is smooth. Overall it's just clean, clean, clean. I was in awe at its condition when I purchased it 3 years ago and still am today. The only sign of wear would be on the front and rear lens caps...

Comes with both caps (hood is retractable) and a Canon 49mm skylight filter. Also included is a hard case (not sure if it's original).

Pentax K-x + DA-L 18-55mm, DA-L 55-300mm Kit + Pentax Lens Hoods (US)

Asking Price
$575 USD

Item Location

Item Description
Mint condition, bought in December of 2009, less than a year old. Body and lenses are pristine - I cannot stress enough how clean this kit is when I say pristine. This is the closest a used item gets to looking new. No scratches or dust on or underneath the glass. The only sign of wear is on the chrome trim on the right side of the body but its not a big deal at all and hardly noticeable. This was always kept in a bag when not in use. All camera functions work properly.

Includes original box and all paperwork/manuals, caps, neck strap, USB cable. Also includes genuine Pentax hoods for both lenses. As you know, the hoods do not come with the kit. A GGS glass screen protector has been on the LCD since day one and, of course, is also included.

I've been using the Lightroom 3 beta for a week now and really like it. It's really streamlined my workflow. It knows to import directly from your camera or drive as soon as it's plugged in. You set the destination folder once and it will save to that folder until you specify otherwise. Checkmark the pictures/folders you want and press "import" and you're done.

Nothing groundbreaking here but the interface is a lot more pleasant than anything I've ever used.

Burton zoom camera backpack

I have one. It's a great backpack if you need to haul lots of gear. There's ample room for everything - I've got a K-x w/ 3 lenses, 3 flashes w/ wireless triggers/receivers all in the main compartment with plenty of room to spare for other things. I can fit 3 umbrellas in the side pockets and can fit a tripod or light stand to the snowboard strap. There's plenty of zippered pockets for batteries, cords, etc. Space isn't the issue.

What it doesn't do well is accessibility. If you need to get into the main compartment constantly, this isn't the bag for you. You have to unzip the back just to get to the main compartment which you also have to unzip. There is access from the top through a "hidden door" but the opening is narrow and, at best, you'll be able to get a small lens out. It's a neat idea to make the compartment removable but this definitely was not designed with quick changes in mind. However, if you want a bag to haul all your gear on location where you'll set up once for the entire shoot, this is perfect.

I've also heard complaints about the waist strap sitting too high with taller people. This isn't much of an issue for my 5'9 frame but I can easily see how it can bother someone upwards of 6'.

Battery grip for K-X?

As much as I'd like to see a K-x vertical grip - third party or otherwise - it won't happen. Or rather, it would be pointless. In order to have a shutter release, it would have to implement some sort of IR/remote function since the K-x doesn't have the jack for cable release. This would not only be costly for R&D, it would be unreliable as your hand could block the IR's line of sight. Producing a grip without shutter release means you'd have to use your left hand to press the shutter button, which is now on the left due to vertical orientation. It would be a real awkward way to shoot.

Not saying it's impossible, but I doubt it will happen.

I'd like to see a "very near pro" model - it would be the K-7's successor - w/ better ISO performance and faster FPS. Strictly from a marketing standpoint, I think FF might be too big a jump at this time.

Keep the K-x. They can upgrade to a 15mp sensor to compete w/ the T2i. Give it a shutter cable port and/or bottom connections for an optional grip.

Keep one of the existing lower end models or upgrade it slightly and call it the entry level. No video.

Introduce a 4/3.

That would round out the lineup very well, I think.

Pentax DA60-250MM DA Star 60-250mm F4 ED (IF) SDM Lens in Camera Lenses and Lens Adapters at JR.com

Cheapest I could find. Not a great deal, I'd like to see something better before I bite.

For whatever reason, I don't have permission to post in that thread...

However, J&R is selling the K-7 w/ 18-55mm lens for $899 shipped. After cashback, this comes out to $854. This is probably the best price I've ever seen for the kit.

Their Ebay listing states the following:

"Seller charges sales tax for items shipped to: NJ (7.000%). Tax applies to subtotal + S&H for these states only"

Their official website states the same under the Help page.

Try Wolf Camera on Market St. Last time I was there, they had a decent selection of Pentax gear.
