Been mighty quiet around here, aside from the GR...

More than likely this is going to be the case.
If they release something next year, I hope that the AF performance will have taken a major leap forward. It's been a while since the release of the K-3II. I'm pretty sure that they haven't been sitting around & goofing off for the past few years. Hahaha! :p

K70 aperture block?

The few reports that are starting to come out seem to point to the K-70 having the same aperture motor issues as the K-30/50/500 & some K-S1/S2 cameras.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ricoh is still using the faulty "green" solenoid in them. I'd be willing to bet on that. :p

I had thought of buying one as a backup body for the future K-3II replacement, but I'm going to skip it. I already fixed my K-50 by replacing the "green" solenoid for a "white" one. Don't need to do that again.

Hmmm..... It might be different in Linux then.

C:\Program Files\RawTherapee\5.4-923-g07dafc67a\share\lensfun

^ That's the typical Windows directory where you would find all the .xml files for the Profile Lens Correction section in RawTherapee. You can try creating a folder to see if it works.

I was just thinking of better AF performance overall, but that would be awesome if they could do something like that. If they could actually implement that at lightning speed, not only will it make focus accuracy insanely good, but this will be a game changer in DSLR cameras. You can say good-bye to manual AF adjustment for any lens, since the AF will always lock-on dead accurately. Yeah, there will be times where the camera will be too stupid to figure out what you're trying to focus on, though. Hahaha! :p

The Nikon D500 has some kind of lens auto AF adjustment, but I don't think it uses any kind of CDAF for that & I don't think it does it every single time while focusing.

Hey folks! Sorry for not getting back sooner. I can no longer edit the first post of this thread. It's too old.

I took down the DCP files a while ago, since RawTherapee can do a pretty good job of figuring out the input profile from whatever RAW file you use. I do have the PP3 files set to Auto-matched camera profile, (cameraICC) in the PP3 file, but it will default to Camera standard if it can't find the correct DCP.

You can make your own DCP files in RawTherapee, although I haven't played with that yet, or you can use the DNG Profile Editor from Adobe for either Windows or Mac. That or you can copy the DCP profiles from Lightoom if you have it.

I'll probably end up having this thread locked & starting a more simplified thread later on to make it easier for the new folks that are just trying this software out. The PP3 files do just about everything for you already. As soon as version 5.5 of RawTherapee comes out, I'll have a new set of PP3 files for it.

I haven't been using RawTherapee on Linux for a while now, but you can try placing them into usr/share/rawtherapee/share/lensfun to see if they show up. You'll need to go into that directory in root mode to copy files into it. It won't let you copy into it as a standard user. You'd have to use gksudo nautilus if using Ubunutu or something like that in the command line to get root access to it. It all depends on your file explorer (nautilus, dolphin, caja, etc.).

RawPedia

^ There's some more info there, but it's kind of confusing. You can also try hitting up heckflosse via PM or try asking the RawTherapee Forum.

Hopefully this goes into the K-3II successor along with much better AF algorithms. I'm hoping that this will allow more spread out AF points with much better AF confirmation.

This would be the only way to find out, but I don't think anyone will do this anytime soon, since the majority of them will be under warranty.

It's really not that hard. Just takes time to do it, since everything is sooooooo tiny. It took me about 3 hours just fumbling around with the whole thing. Even cost me a slightly burned finger. Hahaha! My camera has almost 20,000 trouble free shots since August of 2017. Mind you that my soldering skills are next to none & I would consider the soldering job that I did in my K-50 to be well below average. It was kind of sloppy. I used a Harbor Freight soldering tool. :p

I would do a lot better if I had to do it again on my red K-50, but I would rather not do it if possible. Hopefully that one doesn't fail............

Not bad. Seems like it comes with the DA lens that has the scale markings on it. Much more nicer than the cheaper unmarked DA-L plastic lens. It normally costs about $185 or so.

Can't go wrong with that. You'll possibly get a very amazing APS-C flagship camera next year or get the KP even cheaper than it is now sometime in 2019.

Or if push came to shove, you could always go for a different camera from a different manufacturer sometime next year & adapt your lenses to it. :D

^ They have already sold about 150 of them. I think that's just a tip of the iceberg. There are probably many other people that would get one if they knew about this and/or would be willing to do the fix themselves.

Goes to show that someone at Hoya/Ricoh/Pentax really screwed up the K-30/50, K-S1/S2, & now possibly the K-70 too.

I don't think it's going to sell for that much, but I could be wrong. If it has the AF performance similar to the D500 & 7D Mark II, I bet several users would buy it. There would probably be a shortage of the DA 55-300mm PLM lens shortly after. :p

I'd take the trade off. I prefer a photo that's dead sharp with some very minor degradation than an out-of-focus photo that has no degradation. If the K-3II successor doesn't have much improved AF, I'll be moving on to mirrorless.

Indeed! I think Ricoh is going to go for the gold & probably get some new users too.

I would love to get some updated DA* lenses. I'll definitely be getting that DA* 11-18mm lens if I get the new APS-C flagship. :D

At least 50% of the posters on that thread wanted to know what was going on with the K-3II replacement. According to the prior CP+ interview, it's coming. We just don't know when. My guess is that it might appear around the same time that the DA* 11-18mm f/2.8 lens is released, but then again, this is Ricoh we're talking about here. Hahaha! :p

Outside of them definitly sticking with OVF type cameras, that was pretty underwhelming & vague overall. I'm still thinking that CP+ will reveal the status of Pentax. Hopefully it will be good.
