I'll accept "interesting" as a description for it. It even could be considered a puzzle--can you find the silhouetted donkey shape in the background, hiding in all of that horizontal and vertical cross-hatching?

If we want creamy bokeh, that enhances the main subject and the overall picture, without being distracting, however, well....this falls a bit short of that standard. Of course, this thread shows so many kinds of bokeh that it does challenge any strict set of rules of standards for what can be good bokeh. Maybe more people will like the bokeh in this one than I would expect!

I meant the lens really works for the other shot, of the rusty bed springs, unless you want to shake up viewer's nerves.

\ / n E r v e / \ R a T T L i n g % bokeh

While not creamy, the bokeh in the earlier posted bedspring image wasn't bad, this shot also taken with the Promaster AF Aspehrical f/3.5-5.6 28-80mm has what I would call a rather jarring background! In the spring shot, the randomly leaning and criss-crossing of dried vegetation, as well, as other rusty metal, didn't make a terribly distracting background. In this case, the rectangular patterns of fence posts, fence wire, a gate produced a very different kind of bokeh result. I post this as a warning for others trying to squeeze what might pass as close-ups of large objects shooting this lens wide open at 80mm--sometimes it might work nicely, sometimes not so well. It's the kind of "bokeh" that might make some viewers re-apply their denture adhesive after looking at it too long. :)

It's not the rust that limits this shovel's usefulness; it's the cross-wise crack in the center of the blade, which it got when it had but little rust on it. Still, it's good for light-duty tasks.

Okay, I agree, this well head really sucks (water from the Burlington Limestone strata 450 feet below). Water moving through it regularly. Maybe right when I took this picture:

My 16mm Rokinon/Samyang 16mm has a very easily removable hood. How to remove it is obvious. But the Bower/Samyang 8mm is nothing like that. Hood might be integral as you say.

My Bower-badged Samyang 8mm has a non-removable hood. I mean it probably comes off somehow, but I don't want to damage the lens trying to figure out the secret to what holds the hood on.

He likes licking, chewing on, plucking, seeming to floss with...fence wire. He's a character.

Also, while his winter coat always includes various brownish shades, his summer coat has hardly a trace of brown, mostly looking like a dappled silvery gray, with some white and blackish markings. People who didn't know that would think we got a different donkey.

Crappy cold & gray days delayed me testing my excellent looking Promaster AF Aspherical f/3.5-5.6 28-80mm picked up a few months ago. I'm finally getting around to it, taking it out on my Pentax K-R set at iso 100.

Could it be the same as the similar Tamron model, despite different country of manufacture? Or what does it mean that mine and some others show in the exif data as an SMC Pentax-FA 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 AL?

These shots are all taken at or near wide-open aperture.

Isn't your cedar (Thuja) more of a forest tree? The red cedar, while it can get reasonably big, is more of a tree of forest edges and clearings, and because about half of its needles are prickly, it will persist in cow and horse pastures...if not so much with goats around. We have a lot of deer, and I haven't seen them touch the red cedars much.

I expect that Missouri cedar is an Eastern Red Ceder (Juniperus virginiana). < Plants Profile for Juniperus virginiana (eastern redcedar) >

It is the only conifer indigenous to every county in Illinois, as well. There are few native white pines in a little area of northern Illinois. And another kind of pine (red, long-leaf, short-leaf...I forget) as well as bald cypresses in far southern Illinois. In any other part of the state, when you see a conifer, if it ain't a red cedar, people planted it there.

Got hundreds of them growing on our little 40 acres. We cut branches for our goats to eat. Makes their mouths smell like cedar chests. ;)

When a set of reviews has some people giving a lens a 9 for sharpness, at the same time some other people are giving it a 5, it does take some careful reading and questioning.
-- Do these people have equivalent copies of the lens, but very very different standards?
-- Do both factions post sample images, and did the people posting 5s post sharp pix for some other lenses (meaning they just don't need new eye glasses)?
-- If both kinds of reviewers are being accurate, do others have to seriously worry about a great quality variation among copies of that lens when they shop for one?

If there is a big swing in quality between copies, it is a good thing if the reviews warn us about it.

This morning was the first time I heard a couple of songbirds singing their spring songs as dawn. Spring weather only started about a week ago. Later than usual. I haven't noticed flowers shoots breaking ground yet either.
