You cannot just apply the basecurve or filmic modules and expect to see a finished product in darktable. For example, here is your image after initial adjustment in filmic. No clipping on either end and midtones adjusted to 18.45% A totally blah image that needs some TLC. This is what the filmic author describes as "an image ready for adjustments".

And here is your image using basecurve AND further tweaking using the basic adjustment module. Much closer to the RT output:

I think you just need more time exploring the new modules and coming up with what works for you. The tools are all there.

Filing a bug report and providing examples for the devs is the only way to get this investigated. I am running the git code and there is no such off-color there.

GPS Connection - Astrotracer

First consideration is that the constellation of GPS satellites is constantly changing as the satellites move in their orbits. So, yes, the Astrotracer needs to update its ephemeris. However, once it has done this once, it should be able to update it without doing another calibration since the satellite orbits are part of the ephemeris. But there is also the Precise Calibration. This attempts to sense the local magnetic field with the intent to correct the magnetic variation for any local deviation. So if you move your camera position, you should do another calibration routine. There are some locations which have such a strong local magnetic field (such as iron-rich soils) that attaining a good calibration is impossible.

Great shot! Many areas of Canada have outlawed laburnum plantings due to the toxicity of the seeds.

A testament to the current static economy. Usually you cannot get a view of Fujiyama without a pall of smog in the way.

Hardware: How to identify the right CPU to upgrade?

Quite frankly, any bottom line motherboard/CPU upgrade will give you a boost and I use a PC much like yours. I strongly doubt you could find a newer/better chip to fit on your old motherboard. There are some good AMD Ryzen deals around now and I would strongly encourage you to check those out. I am also in the market for an upgrade but might wait for the release of the new Ryzen chips later this year which should allow prices to fall on the previous generation CPUs.

Darktable has a user-submitted lua script that does exactly what you wish: trolls through an image collection and creates a kmz file which you can load in googleearth. Each image is plotted with its image name and clickable thumbnail which brings up the image. Perfect for those who like to fill in their makernotes with image info. Scripts page is here:

GitHub - darktable-org/lua-scripts

Unfortunately, kml_export is linux only. Lots of other multi-platform scripts, though.

Interval shooting in USER mode?

There are several settings which render interval shooting unavailable. One I can remember is multi-frame shooting. It has to be in single-frame mode. There are a couple of more.

I have been playing with the Y0U0V0 mode today. It does not wipe out noise as easily as the RGB mode but as a result it leaves more definition in the image due to the split mode.

Male Downy Woodpecker on front birch tree. He had just flown from the suet feeder and has a bit of fat stuck to the end of its bill. Decided to leave some noise in the image rather than try to get rid of it all and lose definition. The K-3 sensor is lacking at ISO6400 compared to newer models.
