My wife came in from a bike ride late this afternoon and said, "There's a crocus out back by the grill!" So I grabbed the K-3ii with the mounted K 35/2 and went to investigate.

Yes, there was a crocus--rather, what was left of a crocus after an overnight low around 25 degrees F and freezing rain. . . . Such is the cruelest month in Wisconsin, during a pandemic. . . .

ISO 400, f/2.8, 1/125 sec.

Nice image! Which model Dual is that? And . . . Coral . . . I'm not familiar with that cartridge. . . .

Or a third: macro-cinematography which necessarily throws the background into beloved bokeh. (Which may also accomplish possibility 2. . . .) :-)

Phase IV is a strange sci-fi movie about . . . ants, and researchers thereof. I can't say it's all that good, but it's interesting, and definitely different! (And very different than Them!, too.)

There's a Richard Russo novel, Straight Man, that deals with the faculty in an English Dept. My M and I both found it pretty hilarious and mostly spot on. Russo knew the subject matter pretty intimately. So did Randall Jarrell, who wrote Pictures from an Institution, another comedy set in an English Dept. of a small liberal arts school. But both those novels are very different than the Albee play and the movie.

To tie all this in with this thread . . . I seem to remember a lot of bokeh in Phase IV. (That doesn't mean the cinematography was excellent, just that there was bokeh involved throughout.)

Good to see you had fun with the tractor!

And things in the house . . . I used to have a NanoVerb, but sold it after going digital. I reckon I should have photographed it first. . . . (Of course, there are a lot of other bits of sound equipment around here to lure bokeh out of. . . .)

Academics can be notoriously territorial, no matter the department they're in.

By the way, Walter . . . have you ever seen the movie Phase IV? I think I'm remembering the title right. . . .

Gorgeous, WPRESTO! I haven't seen that species before.

Makes me think of E.O. Wilson and his brilliant studies of ants. . . .

No, just me. I was thinking about Bradbury's story about the automated house and its demise the other day, though.

And I did think of John Wyndham's triffids (Day of the Triffids), but only after making the photograph and looking at it in Lightroom. Mainly, I had an impulse to involve the 404 in a photograph. (I miss my Peugeot 404, a lot, but none of my die-cast 404s has ever developed a vapor lock. Then again, the die-cast versions haven't once helped me get from point A to point B, either--except, of course, in my imagination. . . .)

K-3ii, A 50/2.8 macro, f/8 or f/11. . . .

"Once their Peugeot was surrounded by the giant mosses, they made the choice to leave the safety of the car and run. That wasn't their first mistake, but it most assuredly was their last."

Spring's here in Spring Green despite the snow we had earlier this week. Here are three photos from late this afternoon, all made with the K-3ii and my A 100/2.8 macro with apertures around f/8, give or take a stop. In order . . . moss seta . . . rhubarb . . . Rhytisma acerinum (Tar Spot of Maple, a fungus that wintered over from last fall). . . .

And . . . two more, one of Commander Cody of the 212th, with other clones in the bokeh, and the other of my Eastman AR604's bridge (both with my K-3ii and EBC Fujinon 55/3.5 macro):

All those food images made me think of . . . coffee. And my newly-purchased kitchen appliance, a roughly 70-year-old Peugeot grinder. I've got three other Peugeots, but one of them is a spice grinder (nutmeg) and the other two are a little newer than this latest one--but they don't grind as well as this one. I'd kinda given up grinding to protect my wrist and elbow, but now, with the pictured Peugeot, I can grind again!

The photos were made with my K-3ii and EBC Fujinon 55/3.5 macro at various settings (f/8, I think, mostly). . . .

So . . . Faerie is in Indiana? Just beyond the fence?

I need to start using my K 200/2.5 more. . . .

Last night I was at Mox Mania, a gaming store in Madison, WI, while my son was judging (and playing in) a Friday night Magic: the Gathering tournament. I had a notebook for writing, a book by Fred Chappell to read, and . . . my K-3ii with four lenses. Fortunately, there's some cool stuff in game stores. The first image was made with my Visitor Series 1 28/1.9, wide open; the others were made with my M 100/2.8, also wide open. (Next time I may have to pack one of my macros or extension tubes. . . .)

Ha! She probably does know. Then again, I sometimes think each of our cats feels he or she is the center of attention--except, of course, while sleeping. Vanessa and the two youngest cats, Henry and Tuuli, and all good models. I suppose Callie is, too, but not to the degree the other three are.

Wow, lots of great stuff has been posted since I last checked. . . .

Here's one from this morning of Vanessa, who was lounging on quilt-covered bed (K-3ii, Vivitar Series 1 28/1.9, iso 400, f/4 @1/125 sec.)--

Wow. I would never have figured that out. But I suppose that's one reason I posted what I did--I figured someone out there might know what the problem was!

Thanks, WPRESTO!

Des, those are some cool spiders!

On a totally different note . . . I had my K-3ii and K 35/2 out the other day and got this photo of Noodler's Ink bottles. Noodler's makes great fountain pen inks; the brown ink in the photo has a rich hue and flows really well (better than Noodler's #41 Brown, for sure). I'm pretty certain this photo was made at f/2. . . .

Ah. Don't know why, but the attachment wouldn't upload--"Page not found--404." Hmm.

Well . . . at least y'all know about Noodler's Inks now. . . . If I manage to figure out the problem, I'll post the photo later, too.

Tervetuloa, Joro!

Wish I could write more in Finnish, but my knowledge is limited. . . .

Anyway, I'm glad you've got an account now. It's a great forum, and there are quite a few Finns here. (And at least one member who's part Finnish who wishes he were there rather than in Wisconsin in the US. . . .)
